  1. Getting occasional jams as pictured. Is it from the round hitting the ramp too low?
  2. Couldn't replicate it manually. The round sits at the center of the ramp before closing the slide. Timing issue? I'm a little worried about set back with how deep the groove is. I should probably measure them.
  3. I have a steel grip. My guess was that it was hitting too steeply into the chamber. I'll try your suggestion.
  4. Here is a pic of my rounds after "unload, show clear."
  5. I ran into that issue a couple times with the second to last bullet in one of my mags, running 200 gr RN bayous at 1.18 (in a new CKA Hardcore). It was a mag issue. I did have to modify my Grams followers so the gun would not go into slide lock with one bullet left in the mag. That is also a common issue with 2011 mags tuned to get an extra round or two in the magazine when you have a functioning slide lock. You just have to shave/grind off the lip that bumps the slide lock.
  6. I just picked up a CK Limited Hardcore and the Mitchell Custom right side mag catch will work, but you can see threads on the left side screw because it hangs up on the rounded edge of the frame. I also picked up the Arredondo paddle button in case I have any issues with the Mitchell. I have short thumbs and the paddle makes it so I barely have to regrip for a reload.
  7. I would say that you are doing way more than most before their first match. I showed up to my first match with a Sig P229 and two extra mags on a leather belt (shot limited division so I could load the mags to 12). My squad and ROs were very helpful. I was so nervous I ran (walked) right by a window with a set of targets without shooting them. I was hooked immediately.
  8. I love the Mitchell Right Side Mag Release. Now we just need them to make one that fits the CK Arms grip.
  9. All you have to do is tell the Match Director that you are new and he will likely pair you up with somebody to help you out. At least that's what happens in MN.
  10. Grundhauser 1911 CK Arms Hardcore Limited with Steel Grip
  11. The other benefit is that you have to take your trigger finger off the trigger.
  12. On the topic of the right side mag release, I tried one out because I have short thumbs and felt like I lost time on mag changes by regripping. I now have them on my Grundhauser 1911 and infinity 2011. 1 second reloads are no problem on the timer. I even plan on switching the mag release to the right side on my accushadow. For what it's worth.
  13. Looks like I'll have room for longer cartridges then. The gun I'm getting has a kkm precision bull barrel.
  14. I will certainly plunk test and measure maximum OAL too. I was just curious what other guys were using for OAL/pet loads.
  15. I have a CK Arms Hardcore being delivered and was curious about pet loads that you all use for this gun. I generally run either 200gr or 180 gr Bayous loaded at 1.18 with N320 (in both my Grundhauser 1911 and Infinity 2011). I presume these will work fine with the new ride.
  16. Does the 1.13 pass the plunk and spin test? If not, you're begging for trouble if you shoot competition. My accu takes up to 1.16 with bayou 147 trainers.
  17. I bought a used gun that did the same thing. First, don't shoot it in that condition. I learned my lesson. Second, it took a gun builder to fix the sear hammer hooks trugger bow to solve my problem.
  18. I was just given this as a family handmedown. It has 38s&w ctgs on top of the barrel and Secret Service Special on the side. Patent pending is on the right trigger lock button.
  19. I haven't done the exact test described above, but I have/do check for bullet setback by measuring OAL before and after chambering a test round. I have not found any loss of neck tension in FCD'd rounds using bayou bullets. I typically put .001 -.002 of crimp on my rounds for USPSA shooting. I use Hornady dies and with the seat/crimp die I just take out most of the belling/flare followed by the FCD for final crimping.
  20. I recently picked up a used STI Framed SVI Sight Tracker 2011 that was supposedly built by well known builder (not on this site). The seller stated that there were no known problems with the gun and I should be able to compete with it upon receipt. Well, that was hardly the truth. I took it to the range to test fire it and proceeded to put a round in the ceiling when the hammer followed the slide. Fortunately, the gun didn't go full auto because I had a full mag. I detail stripped the gun twice to look for the cause of the hammer follow, but don't know enough about hammer sear interaction to fix the issue. Still had hammer follow after putting it together, but only when when I test fired the gun with one round in the mag. It stayed cocked racking the slide by hand. I ended up taking it to a gun builder I know and he couldn't believe the gun was built by the well known builder, because he has seen the builder's work before. The gun had poor fitting work on numerous parts, a hammer spring that was too light, and an SVI trigger in an STI frame (trigger bow is too long), and a 1911 main spring with material removed from the sear leaf. Thankfully, he is a friend and gave me a deal on all the work. Now my question is what to do about the transaction? Should I give the seller a poor rating on the selling site and let others know his name on this site as somebody to avoid doing business with? He claims he was selling the gun for a friend and had never shot the gun, so he did not know about the hammer follow issue. To his credit, the hammer did stay cocked when racking the slide. However, shouldn't I be reimbursed for what I spent to put the gun in a safe condition? GRRRR.
