This is a big "if", and only and "if" we were to offer the DVC'S in black it would be a quality finish such as some type of DLC coating. Ok that "black" open DVC is awesome. I don't even need the TiN barrel and comp, that would save a few bucks on manufacturing. I'd be trying to beg, borrow, and steal for that one.

+1 I have them in a couple of my guns (the ones that had full length guide rods to begin with). I definitely think there worth while to have on your gun. Much simpler than using a paper clip. Only thing is I tried putting one in my Dan Wesson PM-9 and it won't go in. Like the barrel is to big or something.

+1 Dawson tool less guide rod. Be sure and get the one with for bull barrels. If the gun is shooting where you like it with the sights measure the front sight and order the same one from Dawson.

Anybody know someone outside of Texas that is going to sell these? Yes I'm trying to avoid paying sales tax. .... on top of shipping and on top of transfer fees. Yes I know I'm cheap!

I like the looks of the DVC and I agree for the price difference between it and a Trubor, your probably getting your money's worth. I looked around the net and it looks like TiN coating a barrel is about $95.00. Don't know if that would be the same for a barrel with a Comp or not. I agree if you take a Trubor and try and make it a DVC you'd be better off with the DVC. Guess I need to decide how long I want to save. Looks like the DVC Open gun is about $500.00 more than a Trubor if you buy each one new. Definitely worth considering. DVC ought to be in peoples hands before I get my money together so I'll be waiting for some reports. Thanks,

I really appreciate the comments. Maybe I'm not way off base on my thinking. I saw them, but the open gun is $3299.00. Trubor's are running about $2700.00 new. I don't know if the new DVC is going to be worth the extra $600.00 to me. I'm not sure on how to evaluate what you are getting in the new DVC guns verse a Trubor. I know they are not out yet so hopefully someone will get one and do a detailed report on it. Thanks for the link but it looks like these gun are $3500.00. That's a lot more than the Trubor's. Don't know what all they come with but would these be better than the DVC's for the money?

I've been thinking about getting an open gun to begin shooting USPSA, Steel, and whatever else I can with a comp'ed, red dot sighted pistol. My reasoning is my old eyes being able to see a dot "out there" better than my front sight at the end of my arm. And who am I kidding the coolness factor of the open gun. With that being said, I have spent hours looking at calibers and builders reading on this and other forums. While I have always wanted a 38 super, well just because... I am leaning, slightly, towards a 9mm because I already reload for 9 and have brass to get started. Also the cost of buying and even finding 38 super brass new or once fired seem pretty difficult. I am considering a STI Trubor as the gun, because of cost and availability. Also it seems like there are several folks on here, that have Trubor's in 9 and shoot both major and minor loads, either as they come or by changing the recoil springs and other minor stuff. My thoughts are to load major PF for USPSA and then use a softer load for steel and other games that don't require the major PF loads. I'm not looking to become a GM or M shooter and go pro, just wanting to have some fun and a little friendly competition. It's going to be a while as I save my $$$ to purchase the gun. So I'm not ready to buy at this point. I was just wondering if you all have any comments about my idea and direction I'm looking at taking. Is there something else I should be considering? Thanks,

How do you know me???? That describes me to a tee, but I'm not really looking to make GM. Just have fun and try and remove as many variables as possible from why I shoot like I do. And 200 pairs of shoes!!!! LUKE, JOIN THE DARK SIDE LUKE! (Starwars reference for those of you too young to know...)If I had to do it all over again, knowing what I know now. I would have started on a 2011 platform open gun, never looked back... I have to admit, since I went open, I've gotten faster and more accurate in all my other divisions and shooting sports. I like the DARK SIDE. Sounds like a plan that's coming together. Can't see, old and slow. Not worried about making GM, just have some fun. Investment strategy is more sound than purses (or shoes). Get to be a bad boy by going to the Dark Side. Possibility of getting faster and more accurate! That's a win all the way around, now to sell the wife on it. (Better leave out the shoes and purses, unless it looks like I'm losing.) Thanks guys and gals. I do appreciate all the comments. I currently shoot IDPA and was hoping for an optic division. That didn't happen this year. Have been thinking about shooting USPSA this past year. Anything wrong with starting out in open division? I'd like to shoot USPSA, but with the over 50+ eyes, and the start of cataracts, I find it easier to see a dot superimposed on a target out there than the front sight at the end of my arm. Just wondering if anybody else started out in Open division.

Ed Brown makes a bobtailing jig that can be used to convert frames to bobtail. There is even a youtube video or two of doing it. Can't help with the cost from a gunsmith but the jig is about $50.00. Google it and you can find lots of information.

I own a couple of STI's and a DW PM9. Hands down the DW is the better weapon. DW is stainless if that matters. Also in my case the DW has a better trigger and better fit, it is as smooth as glass. My DW feeds anything you put in it, where the STI with 10 rd mags sometimes have issues with hollow points. So far I've never needed customer service work on the DW. Service I have gotten from STI hasn't been satisfactory at this point on one of my STI pistols.

Are there benefits to having your barrel TiN Coated? What are they?

How would you say the recoil of the Eagle in .40 compares to your Glock? Which Glock were you shooting?

Thanks for all the information. I picked up a pound to try as I have been using titegroup for most of my 9mm loads. I wanted to try something else and this is about all I could find. I don't load to major PF right now. However I was wondering if PP would work since there was some mention of using PP in major loadings. Since it seems to be in the burn rate category of HS-6 though I'd ask. Thanks

Anybody loading Power Pistol in 9mm -minor or major? I did a little searching and seems like Power Pistol is close to HS-6 in burn rate. So how does it perform and what bullet weight would you use for major and minor work ups? Any data your willing to share for minor and major loading. Thanks

Wasn't meaning to leave any of the fine custom makers out. I know there are other talented builders out there. Guess it wasn't really a fair post for a comparison as y'all pointed out STI is really a production gun while SVI Affinity is a full on custom built one at a time gun.

Wow that's a nice looking gun! I don't know if I could save enough in a year for that. I'd have to quit going to other gun store's. I keep spending my savings. I don't know if I have the patients or the will power.

I was and am hoping for an optics division it kind of new and trending direction for carry weapons. Already got an M&P CORE with an optic and I'd sure like to give it a try at IDPA. Seems like a Compact division is kind of redundant but maybe not. Guess it's wait and see.

For IDPA I am currently shooting a single stack 9mm. I am hoping to get started in USPSA this spring. I really think that SVI is way out of my price range. I like the 1911 / 2011 platforms so I was wanting to stay with them. It wouldn't be easier, to swing a 2.5k gun, but it would be easier that a 4K one. At my level I'm not sure my shooting would benefit from a totally custom built gun. Sure like looking at them!

If you were looking at getting a competition gun for say IDPA and USPSA how you rate these two pistol companies - STI and SVI or Infinity Firearms. I would probably be considering a .40 cal double stack. I haven't checked with Infinity but I am guessing that they are going to be the more expensive of the two guns. I think I'm trying to compare apples to oranges as I think the SVI is a truly custom gun while the STI with some hand fitting is still closer to a production gun. What is the differences between the two companies in their guns? Which one would you choose, and why? And would similar guns designs, something along the lines of the STI eagle, be significantly difference in price? I am just trying to figure out how to compare these two gun makers, so any help or comments would be appreciated especially if you happen to have a gun from each of these companies so you can give a contrast and comparison. I had this same problem with Wilson 9mm mags and I cut one coil off the spring. Still plenty of tension and works much better.
