  1. Sorry Roklock I didn't intend to highjack your OP. Sounds like the bullet profile might be an issue. I have the same issue of no more than 1.130 with xtreme HP or FP in 124 gr. I can get to about 1.150 with xtreme 124 gr RN. When you talk about throating the barrel what exactly are you referring too? In shotguns we cut the forcing cones in front of the chamber to reduce recoil and improve patterning. Is this the kind of throating your are talking about by tapering the rifling in front of the chamber? I haven't used layout fluid but I did resize an unprimed case and start a bullet in it and pressed it into the chamber all the way. I removed the cartridge and measured it. I don't recall the exact number but I know it was below the 1.160+ that most people load 9 major too. On the RN xtremes it seems like it was about 1.155 or maybe a couple 0.001 more. I know that loading the delta precision 124gr HP at 1.135 to 1.140 will cause the case to not fit in the chamber flush with the back of the hood on the barrel. That seems too short for that bullet and chamber. Make sure your crimp is right first. Hi-Power Jack and Sarge: I know your not suppose to use a lot of crimp on auto pistol cartridges because you can buckle the case and cause issues. But how much crimp is to much. On plated bullets i have my crimp set where it will just leave a slight indent in the plating as it removes the bell from the case mouth. On the DP HP it doesn't leave any mark that I can see on pulled bullets except for some scuffing where the bullet is pulled from the case. Again sorry for highjacking the thread but I do appreciate any help with this. Thanks
  2. Are you all modifying your chambers? I have a new STI Trubor. I was doing the plunk test using 124 gr delta precision HP. The longest I can load is 1.130 or the bullet gets into the rifling and the case sticks out pass the hood on the barrel. Not sure what effect loading that short will have on the velocity and pressure. Thanks
  3. Thanks. Think I'll try a lighter recoil spring for now using light loads and recheck it after I get it broke in some more.
  4. Just picked up my new STI Trubor in 9mm last week. Ran a few rounds of minor (IDPA) loads through it just because. Had a few jams of one kind or another but I kind of expected that with a new gun, factory grease, and light loads. I looked at STI web sight and it says their compensated guns have an 8 lb recoil spring, but this one feel heavier than that. My question to all you STI Trubor 9mm shooters what changes, if any, do you make to the gun when you run minor vs major loads? Such as recoil spring, mainspring, etc. Thanks
  5. I thought so but I wasn't sure, since I have never shot the Glock in any competition. I knew I could use it and qualify as both SSP and ESP with the same gun in one qualifier. But because I had never qualified with or shot any SSP gun in competition I just wanted to make sure. I'll probably be shooting it in a sactioned match since who know when my 1911 will come back to life. Thanks
  6. I have a question about classification if you change guns. Here is my scenario: You are currently classified as a sharpshooter in ESP and you shoot a 9mm 1911. Your 1911 breaks and you still want to shoot some matches while waiting on your gunsmith to repair your favorite blaster. So you wind up with a stock Glock 34 as your pistol but you have never shot a qualifier with it. Since it is SSP can you declare it as your ESP gun and use it to shoot at your current classification of ESP Sharpshooter in tournaments? Thanks
  7. Did my testing after complete dissassembly and cleaning of the powder measure. Ran about 100 powder drops and weighed them on both my electronic Hornady scale and my old RCBS beam scale. I'd say both scales weighed the charge the same. Also all powder drops are now vary no more than +/- 0.1 gr. Did find that I had to tare my electronic scale a couple of times when it would time out and go off. Loaded about 20 rounds and weighed ever load and it's seemed the cleaning has improved powder charge consistency.
  8. I hope to get to do some testing tomorrow. Comparing my two scales. Especially since I have cleaned up the powder measure. As I said at in the first post I'm using HS-6 for open loads. Titegroup is for my IDPA loads and general 9mm. I'm hoping to get about 170 PF with for my open loads. Thanks for all the help.
  9. Started with removing and cleaning the powder measure. I have disassembled it and hand washed it in dish soap. Rinsed it and allowing it to air dry. After I get it all back together and have some time I'll do some comparison to see if that helps. Also found that I have a crack in the plastic square piece that moves the powder bar back and forth. Dillon is sending me a new one. I'll do some more testing and see how it works. I'm wasn't overly concerned with my IDPA loads since they were not close to maximum. However since I'm starting with some 9 major loads I want my powder charges to be fairly consistent. I can remove and replace the pan on the scales and get consistent readings. I have an older beam style RCBS scale but I am mostly using a Hornady electronic scale. With the test weight it seems accurate. Might borrow a friends scale to do some comparing. Thanks for the help.
  10. Thanks for the info on Wolff springs, that's good to know. I've been looking at MG and also Precision Delta for making Major PF. Kind of what I figured. I wasn't too concerned as most of the FTE were at the end of the 200 rounds when the gun was pretty dirty from all the burned powder and oil mixed with whatever that grease STI coats their guns in.
  11. I do lube all my cases when I reload and I usually run at least 1/2 full on the powder hopper. I see your point on the tolerances and it makes sense. As for critical, it's probably not so much on my loads for IDPA which are pretty moderate. But I'm beginning to load for 9 major so I would imagine that 0.2 grain can make a big difference but I'm not really sure. Guess I it could be my scale too. It's hard to eliminate the error when you have two possible culprets. I may need to see if I can borrow somebody else's scale to check that out first. Thanks for the idea's.
  12. I have been loading 9mm on my square deal b and have noticed that my powder charges are +/- 0.2 or 0.3 grains frequently. I have been using Titegroup. When I throw 10 charges in a row and weigh them the whole group of 10 may be off .5 grain total which isn't bad, but when weighed individually I may have one down .2 and the next one will be .3 on the high side. Since I am starting to load for 9mm in an open gun with HS-6 and was weighing every load, I had one charge that was .4 over and that's not good. Not sure if it's my technique or something I can do to the powder measure to improve consistency. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
  13. Some of the double feeds were against the scope mount. Some stove pipes sticking straight out from the port. I didn't really think it was bad considering it was brand new just out of the box and all I did was put a little oil on the rails before running it. I was using my idpa load which is about 1060 fps with 124 gr xtreme.
  14. Thanks guys. I ordered a 17# ISMI mainspring and a 7 and 8# Wolff recoil spring. According to STI's web page there compensated guns come with an 8# recoil spring. So far all I have ran is about 200 rounds of my reloads that are minor PF. As the gun got dirty it has some stove pipes and double feeds only about 10 out of 200. For a brand new, stiff, gun I'm pretty happy. Loaded up some hotter loads to begin my testing for major PF using HS-6 and 124 xtreme HP bullets. Thanks for the help.
  15. Anybody know what the mainspring / hammer spring weight is in a factory Trubor 9mm? STI 's website says that the recoil spring in there compensated guns is 8 lbs. but it sure feels like it's heavier than that anybody know for sure? I don't have a spring tester I was thinking about just ordering some new springs. Any recommendations for main spring and recoil spring for Major and minor loads? Thanks
  16. Looks like the CR speed Super High Torque is a popular belt. And lots of choices on holsters. I've been looking at the following holsters - the Safariland 014 holster, the DAA racer, and the CR speed. Anybody have any experience with Shooters Connection belts - Shooter Connection Ultimate Competition Belt. to be exact. I'm certainly in the buy once, cry once crowd cause I've done the other and what can I say it's experience. Do have one question on the CR speed belts. Shooter Connection says to measure your waist and round up then and add 2 inches. CR speed measure your waist the extra is added in. Any good input on that? Thanks for all the help.
  17. Looking for suggestions on which competition holster and belt combo you guys use for your open guns. Thanks
  18. Well I stand corrected I guess im confused. I'm talking about a horizontal mount ( where the sight is mounted on its side). So the dot is closest to the bore. Seems like that would be vertical instead of horizontal based on the sight mounting surface, but any way. What is the difference and purpose of Cheely Horizontal C-more Mount and the Horizontal Setback C-more Mount? What are the reason and benefits of each? Thanks
  19. What vertical mount are you running on your open guns? I'm looking for opinion and experiences with the different mounts. Let me know what you had, what you tried, and what you liked the best and why. Thanks
  20. Should be able to depress the follower and stick something thru the holes to hold the spring. Then dump the follower out of the top of the magazine. Release the spring and remove it. Watch your eyes. I use a thin piece of wood that just fits inside of the magazine. That way it's easier to reinstall the spring and lock it in place when you reassemble the mag.
  21. Dawson precision makes a mag release for 2011's that prevents over insertion of the magazine on STI's. I have one on my eagle.
  22. I really like these guns but they weight 44 oz. just like they specs say. Anybody figure out how to make the 43 oz. weight limit with one for ESP in IDPA. I sold mine because I couldn't figure out how to do it. Thought about taking the light rail off on the frame or seeing if someone could make an alluminum guide rod but so far I don't have any concrete idea's on how to do it.
  23. +1 my bet is Dawson will take care of you.
