  1. I pretty much mirror what WTTURN said. My hand goes up and interferes with the slide. I can run my Gen4 bare, but not quite to my liking. As he said, pick what works for you and run it!!
  2. For Production, the differences in magazine capacity is null (assuming you are not already in a locality where you only get 10 rounds). I would also agree that in the long run, the cost of the gun and gear is but a small one, even the price difference between them considered.
  3. Which one works better for you? Do you need/want an adjustable sight? The cutout in the XDm is to lighten the slide to the same weight as a regular 4.5" one. For Production, I believe you can get enough parts for either, as the Mod.2 takes a lot of the same parts as the older XD. You can get longer base pads for both (the mod.2 uses XD magazines).
  4. It was competitive (as much as I am), however to make it really shine it needed some things I believe to make it work for me. To do it again, I would use the 92A1 as the base platform so I could easily change out the front sight (rear as well). Perhaps a WC tuned trigger would be nice, for me I was good with it the way it was. The gun flat out ran and was reliable, and in my hands recoiled darn near flat. I am thinking about either getting a WC Brig or a 92A1 and do the mods, so I can run the platform again with those improvements.
  5. A couple of seasons ago I ran an M9A1 in Limited (minor) and 3Gun. All I did was put in a steel guide rod, mag release, D spring, and magazine extensions. I also hogged out the stock grips and fit in aggressive grip tape.
  6. I was thinking the exact same thing, 92 Compact.

    mod 2

What are you looking for? A lot of items for the older XD9 will work with the mod.2.
  8. You know this really is beating a dead horse.. again and again. All three of them are good guns, and all three of them have their quirks. Pick the one that fits you the best, which may or may not include the 'best' trigger, and just shoot it. Heck, you may change your mind in a year too. Currently running a G34/41. Have run XD/XDm, and a junior son ran the M&P Pro 9L that I shot a bunch. Personally do not get a good fit with the M&P.
  9. I have both, although my CZ is the older Duty model, and the 19 is a Gen 4. Depending on how you carry, you may find that the grip is a bit rough on the CZ. Personally I find the grip a bit narrow on the CZ, although I shoot it just fine. The CZ is more accurate in my hands than the Glock. Magazines for the CZ is double the price of the Glock, if that matters to you. I find the slide on the CZ harder to manipulate. From what I have seen, the CZ is more prone to "limp wristing" failures. On my CZ, unless I hit the magazine release just right, I can get magazines to hang up. CZ actually replaced a bunch of my older mags for this issue, and it is much better now.
  10. I would do the above first. After shooting mine for a while, I would now and then get a "dead locked up trigger", and would have to rack it again to get it to work. I also found that it only happened to me; the other two that were using it did not have this problem. Finally figured out that I was riding the safety, and sometimes would not completely flip it off either (my first round lock up issue). Drove me nuts for a while till I figured out what "I" was doing wrong.. May not be your problem though..
  11. I ran an 870 for quite a few years, and the g/f is currently running a Nova (in 20ga). You don't have to buy a new barrel, finding a used one is not too hard. As for the action bar issue, at least what I remember of the issue, I keep my mag springs a bit tight, so the whole "bouncing shells" does not appear to happen (to me, yes I am slow). At the time, I was also using pretty light loads, rolling my own so my young boys could use their shortened 870. I cannot run the Nova nearly as fast as my 870. However, I do really like the shell feed lock out that is on the Nova (although a bit of a novel idea). With some practice, my g/f has found she can hit that while ejecting, put in a slug, close, and put in another slug (mag tube), for those pesky slug targets in a bunch of shot ones. Maybe consider buying a used 870. I have bought several at pawn shops for well under $200.. The Nova is nice!!
  12. What bullets are you using (size, and weight)? What accuracy are you getting with WWB, and those that you are reloading? I do not use that powder, so I cannot comment on that. Mine is also a Service model. I shoot the same loads through several guns, and my load with 124gr load gives me acceptable accuracy in all the guns.
  13. There has got to be quite some story as to what happened on the front of that frame/slide. Wow! I keep looking at these on Gunbroker thinking that I need a fun project gun..
  14. Never seen one either, as I have a 75B with the round one as well. Alas, I just use it as is, although I had thought about grinding one to fit.

    Gen 3 or Gen 4

To me, shooter preference. I much prefer the Gen4 for the beavertail backstraps and the magazine release. There are some parts differences, however I have not had a problem getting what I needed.
  16. Well age, memory, divorce, etc wears on the mind. I was thinking specifically of the 5.25 models and the Pro 9L. The dates are also sort of tied to when my kids moved into shooting with their own guns. Either way, I would think Scott saying that the aftermarket parts has not really slowed down being a really good indicator. To some extent from what I have seen it will vary by region too.
  17. Five or six years ago when they came out, particularly the 5.25 models, it was the "hot new thing". I still see them often enough, although I am not sure they ever really became the "hot" item here. My junior son ran his until he stopped shooting, so about 4 years. Then the M&P Pro's came out, and last year the Sig P320 and Walther PPQ M2 5". Plus CZ has been gaining share and "everyone" wants that instant GM card that comes with a CZ right? A lot of the people that I know that have shot polymer whatever for a while, have all moved to the 2011's. Heck, Production here is now maybe 1/4 of the field, where it used to be half or better. Personally, I never quite warmed up to the XDm. I did shoot an XD9 for a while (carried it too), and currently have a Mod.2 Service for carry. The XDm grip is just not quite the right comfortable size for what I like.
  18. My son ran a 5.25 9mm in 3Gun, Limited, Production, etc. Almost 50k rounds in 4 years. He was running extended magazines, and a Springer trigger kit (first season he ran it stock). The only part that ever broke, several times, was the pin holding the rear sight in. Finally ordered a roll pin from Springer and did not have a problem after that. I regularly replaced the recoil springs, and at the end of each season would replace all the fire control springs, and every magazine spring. I did replace the striker retainer one time; preventive measure.
  19. Yes, not much out there for the standard XD. I know one person that runs an XD Tactical 9mm for 3Gun, he just reloads a bit more than we do. My junior son ran an XDm 5.25 9mm, starting just when they came out. Setup for 3Gun and Limited Minor, and it worked great for him. My other junior ran an M&P Pro 9L doing the same. I was the holdout trying to straddle both 3Gun and USPSA Production with a CZ75B or Beretta M9A1. Then the big "D" happened...long story there. Anyway, while dating (weird at 50) I found a gal that got hooked on 3Gun as much as I am. New shooter to boot. After a year of shooting she settled on a Glock 17 gen4 that she tried. I ended up getting a G34 partly for commonality of parts, mags, holsters, etc.. Both sport a lot of goodies for 3Gun, as I said before (I run a brass heavy magwell). I have thought about getting a 35 several times, but get stopped at the ammo supply. I would really need another press, bullets, etc.. 9mm is good enough for 3Gun, so I am just sticking with that. I do have an XD Service (never warmed up to the XDm), and I would not have a problem using that (Tactical model upgrade). No magwells would bum, as extended magazines. I personally shoot the 34 slightly better, however that may be due to me just running the heck out of it this year, brass magwell, etc. For me, the magwell in brass is on there more for balance and control for my larger hands. Parts are inexpensive, readily available, and the pistol is super simple.
  20. I sorta went down this road late last season. I shoot a lot of 3Gun and some USPSA. I purchased a G34 and a bunch of magazines, some with extended pads for 3Gun, others were for Production. Then I decided to just setup for 3Gun as that is what I mostly shoot anyway, and for USPSA playing in Limited Minor. If I want to shoot Production I do have other guns for that too. Since you already reload for .40 (I do not even have a pistol in that caliber), then get the 22 or 35. Make up some minor loads for 3Gun if you like (I know a few that do), and run major for Limited. I do have a 17 setup the same way as my 34, and I prefer the 34 slightly better. Subjective thing for me.
  21. I switched from a 75B that I have shot for years to a G34g4 this season. First Glock too.
  22. I have a mod.2 Service, and it has fit every holster for a regular XD that I have put it in, including a Safariland GLS and Blackhawk! locking holsters. If I had the 5" (would like to get one), then I would be looking for one that fits the XD Tactical.
  23. For a note, at one time I used the Win primers all the time. I then had a batch of about 3k that I would get a lot of light strikes (second time it would go off), or not go off at all. About 1 or 2 per hundred, maybe more. I ended up using them up as practice ammo since in a match that is just not fun. I have since switched to Fed or Fed Match, depending on what I can get at the time. Plus I now use an even lighter spring as a benefit.
  24. Possibly starting to get weak. How much dry fire? I run a lighter spring than the D, with Fed Match primers, and change it out at the end of every season.
  25. So, did you send it in to get new blocks, or just ordered them and did it yourself? Hmm, now I wonder if I switched the blocks between the 17 and the 34 if it would follow the block??
