  1. @6x w/ 200yd zero the stadia lines are: 276 363 451 543
  2. What load/velocity?I should have quoted and made it more obvious. I plugged in his velocity for the pmcI agree with the consensus though, you probably aren't getting 3200fps from pmc 223 and if you are you probably have a 20" or longer barrel.
  3. Using Strelock pro with a 200yd zero at the crosshair, hash marks are 311, 425, 530, 638
  4. I'm really digging mine so far. Have had it for a few weeks but shooting with it in a match for the first time this weekend.
  5. Change is the way of things; good on you for taking care of priorities. I see we are close, where do you shoot?
  6. I wouldn't bother using a scope for matches that are 100yds and in, and here's why. My local MDs love to incorporate interesting shooting positions into the stages (which I appreciate). Trying to get a proper cheek weld when lying on your side (with the rifle on it's side as well in order to shoot through a narrow slot for instance) using a scope sucks. I watch other dudes giving tactical BJs wasting seconds trying to find that eyebox. I flop down with my red dot and shoot, don't need a good cheek weld, don't need the rifle tucked into the shoulder - just need to put the dot on the target and pull the trigger. I've also seen the scoped guys struggle on targets in the 60-100 yard range because they use too much mag. They think they need the mag but all it does is cause them to see the shake so bad that they can't hit the target. If you feel like you really need the scope, go with a low power like 1-4x or the above mentioned 1-3. That way your top end isn't overpowering at 100. That being said I did pick up a Strike Eagle (1-6) a few weeks ago to try out tac scope - we routinely have targets from 300-500 yards.
  7. easy to turn fast with the sv-4 throw lever
  8. Not really daylight bright. You can not use it like a red dot. It is "daylight bright" in the sense that you see a red reticle in bright daylight. At least you won't lose it when looking into a shadowed area.
  9. And here I thought I had to deal with long shots. I imagine the Viper will have slightly better glass than the SE, but I don't know as I haven't seen the SE yet. I picked the SE over the viper due to the extra mag and the ability to quickly range an 18" target.
  10. Hopefully it will be here today, although i don't expect it till monday. Don't worry, I'll update when it is in hand and I'm sure several others will as well
  11. It's direct from vortex through 3point5; I work for a dealer so they should be showing up at dealers very soon. At least in small quantities.
  12. Just got my shipping notice today, the Strike Eagle is on the way. I ordered my through vortex at the end of Feb. Can't wait to check it out.
  13. Thanks for the replies, keep 'em coming. Doc, what contour is your 20"? I can understand not wanting to go too heavy, but I also don't want to go too light either. The rifle I'm using right now is a 16" BCM ELW (22 oz barrel), not exactly a gamer gun. Offhand shots are tough, rifle is twitchy and it's hard to stay on target. Also, the local matches around here have some long shots. This past weekend one target was out at 500. The match before that had 5 or 6 between 300 and 400. I'm still debating between building an 18" for tac ops or a 20" for irons, not that the 2" makes a huge difference but extra sight radius won't hurt. Of course the real answer is that I need both, I just don't need to pay for both right now. Next match at the end of the month I'll shoot irons (as opposed to red dot) and maybe that will help make the decision. Probably not though.
  14. Follow up question; does anyone make a 20" barrel with a gas port optimized for running a low mass bcg?
  15. I have a deturk lite and a 2.8. I love the 2.8 and the shell holders in general, but I don't really love the deturk "vest". I think the carbon arms ssl vest is a much better design. I don't have a belly for the kydex backing of the deturk to ride on top of so i have to cinch it up way to tight in order to keep it from falling down. I'm planning on modding mine into a vest similar to the ssl or selling and buying the carbon arms. Can't see locations on my phone, if you are close you can try mine. You can borrow it for a match too if you want to pay shipping both ways.
  16. I shoot with a red dot now, planning to move to optics but everyone shoots tac ops and I do kinda like shooting irons. What is the ideal setup for tac irons? Are you shooting 20" barrels with an FSB? Your thoughts on a 20" barrel, 15" free float rail with an FSB in front of the rail (with gas block under the handguard obviously)? Is there a 20" barrel that would accomodate this? I'm not to familiar with the 20" profiles.
  17. I ended up using the medium backstrap on my gen 4 so the grip size is the same as my gen 3. Without grip tape I prefer the more agressive gen 4 grip. With tape, whatever. If I were going to stipple the grip, I'd go with whichever I got a better deal on. I like the larger gen 4 mag release but its not a deal breaker. I guess I just don't think there's that much difference.
  18. First thing I would do is check company policy on modifying duty weapons. You probably won't find any legal precedents or case law regarding this issue but I'm not an attorney so don't take my word for it. My personal opinion (which doesn't mean $#!T in this case) is that a good shoot is a good shoot regardless of whether it happens with a Joe Biden double barrel special or an Infinity race gun.
  19. I have a BCM gunfighter and magpul K2. I prefer the BCM but the K2 doesn't bother me. Either feels much better than an A2 grip.
  20. Bought one as my first chrono, got the full kit. I'm happy with it.
  21. Ordered mine from Vortex back in Feb. I've been itching to make the switch from red dot to scope, really hope end of June is accurate. Of course I still need Aero to make some of their SPR mounts...
  22. Buds has the best price on it right now. http://www.slickguns.com/search/apachesolr_search/m153gn13?op=
  23. In case anyone cares, I ended up going with the SDB; found a good deal locally so I jumped. Seems like most of the benefits of the LNL were things that didn't apply to my loading/needs. I've only loaded 500 rounds or so and it works very well after some tweaking. Doubled my speed from the lee classic turret which is exactly what I wanted. After playing with the dillon, I have gained more appreciation for the lee though. I will probably keep it around for load development since that is a little harder to do with the sdb.
  24. SVI makes the "Infinity Competition" grip that is made for small to medium sized hands. They also make an "Infinity Enhanced Ergonomics" grip which reduces the distance from the backstrap to the trigger face. Tried a buddies' gun with this frame and the aggressive micro pockets and thought it was perfect for my average sized hands.
  25. I don't see where in that rule it says you cannot plug your mag tube. Nor do I see anything that says that a longer tube which has been plugged shall be prohibited.
