  1. The wood is 4x4. I spoke to him about this and he has a 2x4 offering coming. We used 2 2x4's and it worked fine while testing. I have never seen that about the hanger either and it's legality. The notches are cut so that on impact they make a very audible clang an they rotate back at about a 20 or so degree angle throwing the frag downwards. I have more feedback on the plates we rigged up using 1/4 hooks.
  2. When are you going to start registrations for state Zack? Also, have you heard any more about the Area 6 SC match?
  3. Have you guys heard of these targets? We used them the other week at a match and bought about 3k worth of them. He uses a 4x4 which for us is great because we have so many entry level shooters at our monthly match. He was a great guy as well. I may hit him up to see if he will sponsor the site and maybe advertise a little. https://rangereadytechnologies.com/
  4. I had a little while to get to A. Same goes for after now...
  5. Have you guys found that most of you stayed the same?
  6. My letter came in today. I finished 10th. 5 - 10 was fairly close. My son finished 1st in Jr.
  7. That's only about 2.5 hours for me. My son and I may ride down.
  8. The guys that shoot Blue's absolutely love them. I didn't. The same load - reduced recoil for SC - with the smaller 4 port Carver comp on a g17 would not cycle. I had to run up nearly .5 grains to get the gun to work and it increased recoil and didn't consistently eject. I went round and round with several of them on how comp's work etc BUT the Xtremes worked flawlessly with the load I was using. Low recoil, tight groups = perfect for steel. I've also found that The Bullet Works is pretty inexpensive too with their 147's at around $82.00 shipped per 1000. The same Blue is about $75.00 plus shipping. To me, 7 or 8 bucks is not worth more powder, more recoil, blue fingers and what I found was less accuracy. I have a unique relationship that allows me to purchase Hornady products at a really great deal. Their American Gunner series 147 Grain FMJ tapered bullet's shoot amazing. They are by far my favorite but they are hard to come by as they are "not for resale" and the manufacturers have constant orders in. I just received 5000 last night out of the blue. I requested them in March. I've ordered 750 more Blues to test because I can get them in a day and alot of the guys I shoot with get sponsor and contingency money using them. I'm now shooting an STI Grandmaster which may yield different results than the G17. I'm passing on the Glock to my son and it would be nice to find a really cheap load for hm to practice. Keeping one shooter shooting is tough enough...
  9. Steel Challenge (which is what I use it for) but I would also think USPSA and IDPA would allow it as well. Center Fire Pistol: Any pistol firing (9mm/.38 Special) or larger ammunition (see “ammunition” rule 4.1.1). This event has multiple equipment divisions as follows. Open: This is the race division! All legal firearms are al- lowed. Optics, Compensators, and any safe holster/position are specifically allowed. Limited: Any iron-sighted pistol without a compensator, barrel ports, or optical sight. Fiber optic inserts are specifically allowed. Production: Any double action or safe action pistol on the USPSA Production gun list. No Race holsters allowed. IPSC Production: Any double action or safe action 1 4 handgun on the IPSC Production handgun list…race1 5 holsters allowed per IPSC Production guidelines. Single Stack: Will be governed by the criteria in the USPSA handgun rule book. i.e. 1911 models only, no race holsters allowed. Revolver: Any iron sighted revolver without a compensator, barrel ports or optical sight. Fiber optic inserts are specifically allowed. No barrel length or holster restrictions. No restrictions for maximum rounds.
  10. Do you guys know of or receommend any race holsters that work with these frames? I am hoping that the Double Alpha one works but if not, I may need to look for another option. I called Lonewolf and they recommended the Safariland version but I don't particularly like it.
  11. It was with a rimfire but still... In January I tried to set several goals for myself just to give me some direction on my practice. One was to shoot Smoke and Hope under 10 seconds. I finally did it this weekend with a 9.61 that consisted of 2 sub 2 second strings. of course, the next goal is to do that with a centerfire but may take some more practice time. The lowest I've ran that is about 12.22. I'm sure this is pretty common in rimfire but it's not for me. I'm finding that these plates are highly addictive...
  12. I do it for new shooters, junior's and older fellows at their request. For me two things; A: I do NOT want to know my time on each string until I am done. B: Don't yell hit or miss. If I miss, I miss, I'll get over it but if my concentration gets broken I'm done. How do you guys feel about an RO telling you your time between strings? It gives me a brain bomb...
  13. I have a standard one and have heard bad things about the magnetic ones. I switch sometimes between a 2011 and Glock and would like to find the old stock Glock insert. I have a few questions. Are the magnetic one's that bad? Does anyone still carry the non-magnetic ones?
  14. That's almost identical to where I am. I had some really steady 1.2 and 1.3's at the 10" at 10 range. I'm trying to set up my first target to replicate the distance and size of the first target for each stage. Next I'm going to replicate first shot to move to shot. I screw that stage up pretty good because we rarely shoot it locally.
  15. From draw, what are your average draw to first shot times? I'm starting to break down practice into more fundamental drills and targeting areas I need improvement. This was one where I needed help. I noticed I was having a hard time coming from holster to my first target. I did it over 100 times this Sunday. I was keeping up with my times and was just curious how I was doing for comparison and figured some of you have done this before.
  16. Thats ridiculous. I've done it before. I picked it up, reloaded and finished the string while rising up. Thats not a SC rule that I'm aware of at all.
  17. For lack of a better term it's when everything goes to heck after the beep. So, I've developed this problem and it may have been covered here before. Sorry if it is redundant. I've been shooting SC and some IDPA for a year or so after taking a break from my previous competition days due to kids, etc. When I started back I was smooth and pretty quick. Especially with SC. Lately, somehow I've developed this issue where I am mentally beating myself up before a stage, rushing through and having to pickup shots more frequently. I was almost 1 to 2 seconds slower this weekend than I was nearly a year ago on a few of the stages. A few strings were great but overall I was slower. When I step in the box my expectations of how fast I should be shooting cause me to out shoot myself I think and it gets sloppy. When I practice I do really well but on match day this happens and now it's more frequent. I've even put in my mind to slow down and for some reason when I hear the beep I go full blown spray and pray mode. Have any of you had this before and what do you recommend doing to "fix" it. It's extremely frustrating.
  18. If you weren't under contract you would be eligible I would think.... EligibilityAnyone who is an amateur shooter, regardless of gender or age, who is legally allowed to operate a firearm in their respective state or competition area, can participate. This tour is built on the idea that amateur shooters should have the chance to compete, improve and win. The guidelines below describe how American Marksman classifies an amateur shooter: *Clarification on GSSF matches: American Marksman considers any match listed under the 'Match' tab on www.gssfonline.com as a major match. Any indoor league match listed under the 'Indoor League' tab on www.gssfonline.com is not considered a major match. *Clarification for USPSA: anyone that has attained Grand Master or Master status is not eligible. Shooters that have only attained Class A or lower ARE eligible. *Clarification for IDPA: anyone that has attained Master status is not eligible. Shooters that have only attained Expert status or lower ARE eligible. *For a list of the 'national level shooting events' referenced in bullet point #2 above, please click here. Note on the Boomer Shooter program: American Marksman does not consider Boomer Shooter to be a professional level shooting program and, therefore, participants in the Boomer Shooter program ARE eligible for American Marksman participation, as long as they do not violate any of the criteria listed above. If American Marksman staff discovers that a participant does not meet the criteria of being an amateur, that person and their results will be immediately removed and no refund will be issued for registration. Any minor child under the age of 18 must be registered to participate by his/her parent or legal guardian. Parent or legal/guardian must also be in attendance with their child at the time of competition. For questions regarding eligibility, please email info@AmMarksman.com with “Eligibility Question” in the subject line. No one that has any level of sponsorship in the shooting sports may participate. This includes a shooting contract of any kind including cash, product of any kind or reimbursement of match fees by a third party. This rule does not apply to shooters in the Junior division who have received match fee reimbursement, as long as they satisfy the rest of the eligibility rules. No one that has ever placed in the top 10% of any major competitive shooting event (see link to list below) in any division or category may participate. Please note that for USPSA, this rule extends to the top 15%. No one that has ever been ranked in the top 10% of any national competitive shooting organization’s classification system may compete. As mentioned above, for USPSA, rule extends to the top 15%. Any member of a law enforcement or military unit that selects membership based on shooting skill is considered a professional and not eligible.
  19. After the beep you are on your own. It sucks. I've been a victim of it but thats unfortunately the way it works. You hope you only have one bad string and move on. It's nearly impossible to come back from 2 bad ones at match. I've never had a target fail though. If I were the MD I would have let you start that string over...
  20. How old is your son? Have you heard of the American Marksman Challenge? We did it the other day. It's a lot harder than it looks.... https://www.ammarksman.com/
  21. I have the TK victory trigger and bushing installed. I ordered the sear, hammer and spring kit from VQ and an Allchin 2 port comp. Hopefully I will like the pull better. Not too happy with it "stock" and the TacSol comp looks great but I'm still getting muzzle flip. What I'm finding is that the trigger creep is a necessary evil with the configuration I have right now. if you take it completely out it locks up randomly. I can't seem to find the perfect spot for it.
  22. I have that one as well but for the life of me I can't get it adjusted the way I want it. Also, the retaining pin has walked out on us twice at matches and locked the gun up. Did the sear and hammer help?
  23. I worked up a load of TG that I really like right now. I'm about 100 rounds in without issues. Low recoil and flat. We'll see...
