  1. Let me try another way. Without stage points, faster stages generally don't have as much significance for the overall match and there is no method to equalize stage importance to some degree. This can help to promote the best well rounded shooters as opposed to total time method which may favor the good long range rifle shooters since that type of stage tends to have an overall longer overall time to complete and much more separation across competitors. The winner of a total time match could easily be average or below average in pistol, shotgun, and faster stages in general. Also, I think total time is much more harsh on any kind of failure or stage difficulty on a small numbers of stages.
  2. I agree that stage points can help to equalize the importance of stages which may take a shorter time to complete and give them more meaning in the overall match. Also, with total time one catastrophic failure, significant penalty, or etc. Can put you completely out of the match even if you performed strongly otherwise. For example, at the last 3 Gun I attended a GM class pistol shooter caught a controversial 240 seconds worth of penalty on one stage. Because of this when the scores were run as total time he finished 26th. Scoring as stage points, however, would have placed him in the 5th place finish slot. Also at that match I had a rifle issue that cost me 10 seconds and it happened to be on the Classifier stage. Now, 10 seconds on a long field course may not put me that far behind the leaders from a percentage perspective or when looking at total time but this happened to be on the 3GN Classifier where 10 seconds might easily be twice the time of the stage leaders. Scoring the match as stage points would definitely hurt me much more on this scenario than just having another 10 seconds added onto my total score that I might be able to make up on a longer stage.
  3. Black Diamond Grip Tape. $8.50 with free shipping from Amazon for a longboard sized sheet that will likely last you for many, many years. It comes in a lot of colors and patterns as well. http://www.amazon.com/Black-Diamond-Longboard-Grip-Sheet/dp/B0013T1NZS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405296431&sr=8-1&keywords=black+diamond+grip+tape
  4. These ones http://czcustom.com/cz_75-thick-grips.aspx Right now I am just putting a full piece of grip tape over the smaller section of grip tape on my left side to improve my weakhand traction. The right side just has the original smaller section of grip tape at that makes it a bit easier to shift my strong hand grip if I don't get it exactly right. If I had it to do over I might try the aggressive thick aluminum grips from CZC but with out additional grip tape on the standard CZC aluminum grips my weakhand just slides all over the place.
  5. Thick aluminum with liberal amounts of grip tape.
  6. Here is mine. The Ghost Stinger is very nice. If you do the Blade Tech then get Stoeger's hanger for it. I think he sells some good packages at his pro shop.

    Cz for limited?

Not sure how it could weigh that much. My 9mm TS weighs 43.05 without the magazine and 47.3 with a mag and 140mm extension. I have removed a bit of material from the frame but not as much as they take off the frame of the CTS.
  8. Waze is cool. It's the app equivalent of flashing.
  9. I was going to add," unless you are carrying around an external camera in your hands" but didn't see the point since it's irrelevant for pistol matches and carrying anything in your hands during a walk through is not recommended.
  10. For awhile people were getting ticketed for flashing lights. There wasn't a law against it per say but the cops were writing them up because of laws related to using "flashing lights" on a non-emergency vehicle. Whoever thought up that stretch must be a student of the rulebook discussions on this site.

    Cz for limited?

Easy enough to fix with a bit of Cerakote. Many like to remove the cast Checkering and undercut the trigger guard so a refinish is often required anyway. Alternatively you can just order a CTS from CZC which is already refinished in black. http://czcustom.com/cts40sandwblueinv.aspx
  12. I am going back to the statement that prescription eyeglasses are much more of a sighting aid than Google Glass could ever be so they get banned first according to this ridiculous interpretation. As long and you aren't holding anything in your hands (like the rulebook sites as examples) then you should be fine. Google Glass are not in your direct line of sight and cannot be used for "sighting."
  13. I'm seeing a lot of grips like this on CZs. Is it just a smooth aluminum grip covered in skate/grip tape? That is what I am doing with mine now, at least on the left side. The aluminum grips alone leave a lot to be desired when it comes to traction for my weak hand otherwise.

    Cz for limited?

CZ Custom (czcustom.com) is a one stop shop for magwell, basepads, springs, and etc for your TS. The trigger will be around 2 lb or under from the factory.
  15. That stage in like any perfect worst case scenario. You might try one or two positions without a reload but the disaster factor is too high with all of the smaller steel targets. I shot Production for 3 years and won Area 1 with only 4 mag pouches. There was rarely a scenario that made me wish I had another pouch. That being said I have 5 on my new rig just in case...
  16. You are definitely losing a lot of time with your grab. Are you pushing down onto the grip slightly to solidify it before you pull up or she you just trying to snatch it?
  17. One alternative could be to use a Shotmaxx set on the accelerometer sensor and strapped to the shooter's wrist but that would be difficult to manage unless you had your own.
  18. When my local matches start back up I plan to shoot a match with the rifle can and my suppressed 9mm limited gun. Quietest 3 gun match ever. And the fastest since the shot timer mighty not pick up your run.
  19. "Be sure of your target and what is behind it" is not a law or a rule for 3GN or USPSA. You have to go with what is in the actual rule book. If the potential for disaster is as you say then get the RM to modify the stage instead of putting the onus on the shooter to magically know whether there is a steel target hidden behind the big paper thing in front of him that he is supposed to be shooting. Let me try breaking it down another way. 1. According to the rule book you do not get DQed for hitting steel with your rifle when the steel is set too close; you get DQed for Engaging steel with your rifle that is too close. 2. According to the rule book you have to have a line of sight to be considered to be Engaging it and shooting through other things doesn't count as Engaging. 3. According to the rule book a competitor who legitimately fires a shot at a target, which hits and then travels in an unsafe direction, will not be disqualified. If someone else was DQed at a 3GN match for doing this than it was incorrect and unjustly. That RO and/or RM should get more familiar with the rulebook and then take the time to remove potential hazards like this from the stages versus blaming the shooter.
  20. I am not sure how it could be any more clear. You have access to the rule book; please feel free to use it to prove me wrong.
  21. I am not interpreting it, I am reciting the rules. Just because you don't like them doesn't make it incorrect. A shoot-through is not Engaging and therefor not a DQ. If it is a legitimate shot that travels in an unsafe direction it is not a DQ. How can the rules be any more clear? "2.2.1 - A shot which travels over a backstop, a berm or in any other direction deemed by the event organizers as being unsafe. However, a competitor who legitimately fires a shot at a target, which hits and then travels in an unsafe direction, will not be disqualified." "2.11 Engaging a steel target with rifle, closer than 50 yards is subject to DQ. (rule 8.3)" "Note: For purposes of 3GN Rules, 'Engaged' means: To be in a position where the muzzle is in line of sight to target in question. Shooting in the general direction of target, shooting over obstructions that targets are behind or through see-through walls and/or barriers are not allowed."
  22. I went through a sniffer of some kind at the CN tower in Toronto that flagged me. It blew puffs of air on me that were then "sniffed" by the machine. I had some pants on that I had worn to the range the previous week but had been washed.
  23. I believe that it is an unsafe situation. Common sense should be to fix the stage, not blame the shooter.
  24. Sure but it does clarify who is not accountable and that the shooters should NOT be DQed for it under the current 3GN rule book.
