  1. I had one built a few years ago, from the milspc double stack model, I paid 500 for mine new. Parts for slide any single stack would fit, frame down, trigger, mag funnel, mag release ect, has to be for double stack, yea all the para stuff will fit and with some fitting the sti parts work great, I use Para and Meggar mags with dawson pads (18) round max for 45, BUT you could get a 40 cal slide with barrel (Para, STI, Caspin ect) and send to quality gunsmith and change to 40 cal (that's what I'm doing) para 40 magazines will fit. Last I heard Springfield will not make a production 40 cal. in 1911 frame , and they could make some money. OR if you hade the extra cash and time Springfield would custom build you a 45 double stack or 40 for that matter. To answer your question YES buy it, it's good basic stock to tinker with and build into a great blaster, just my 2 cents Good luck
  2. please move this were it belongs: House remodeling done, next spring adding garage with gun vault attached with vault door to small bedroom, I have a contractor who has agreed to build it, IF I can come up with a set of plans, I'm figuring 8" concrete walls all the way around with rebar, and I have a plenty of old boiler plate to use too. Problem is I've never built one and neither has my contrator, I've called around the local area and no one has a clue how to build one, or anyone that can build one , I need help with this one anyone know where I can lay my hands on a set of blueprints, or a layout?. The vault will be about 8'X10', the floor of the vault must be about 2' above the concrete garage floor to allow for the crawspace opening, I'm figuring on using concrete beams. any help out there

    Grams

has anyone hear if grams has completed his new basepad kits for para 45acp yet? I keep aiming on calling him, but between remodling and working keep on forgetting. I don't really want to bother the man, I know he's busy but I ordered the basepads 17 months ago.
  9. para, magazines or megar magazines (cheaper) work just as well, dawson basepad will take ya to 18 rns. I had a ice magwell on mine and changed to a smith alaxander, any nose cap you want, I prefer a 90 dawson dot. a great deal of rear sights are available for the standard dovetail or you can have a bomar put in, trigger pull is your preferance. As stated before Canyon Creek is a excellant custom shop, you could call them and talk to them about your options or have them assemble your pistol with the parts you send them, a friend of mine had a SA double stack set up for 45 acp and 40 sw with sti slide, these people are GOOD at what they do.
  10. nice web site, note take plenty of suntan oil, and water!
  11. There's a joke in there somewhere... -Chet well yes and no, I've worked for the postal service for almost 20 yrs, (now there's a joke) I got into gun collecting when drag racing got too expensive, and funny when everyone found out I collect guns and shoot in competion, they leave me alone, broke my heart THANKS FASTGUN!!, never thought about google, learn something new every day! thanks again mike

  13. I've been collecting guns for years and I'm the go to guy at work (post office) when it comes to gun questions. Buddy of mine just recieved a shotgun after his mother passed away, and i can't find it in any of my books, gunsamerica, gunbroker ect. It's a single barrel oct. some call it square, 10 gauge, and has three names on it which appear to have been placed their by the factory, they are SHAPLEIGH'S, KING, and ALTRO. even took the shock off and their are no other markings, except for the typical rust and pitting from a OLD shotgun, any ideas would help? thanks
  14. morning: any news from montros, colo.? who won the shootoffs? can't find their web site I know they have one, I was there in 2000, and have been trying to get back ever since. thanks mike
  15. He was divorced years ago, No Class III firearms, (major pain), only child, he said the other day he got a copy of the will from his dad's house and he is the sole benif. he's 99 percent sure his dad is debt free, he's calling everyone his dad delt with over the years. Genghis I gave him your message with phone number, and told him you could be very usefull for knowledge. He was already looking into firearm insurance through the NRA, THANKS everyone for your usefull information. mike
  16. A close friend of mine recently died of cancer, I talked to his son at the showing the other night, and He said he already took the guns to his house, knowing that like his father I also collect guns. He asked if their were any Legal things he had to do to keep them? He has a separete room for them (He's planning on buying a safe) He has a carry permit (IND) and is a good bussiness man and father. And I never thought about it till then that my son will have the same question someday, (army officer), I told him he needs to get the entire collection appraced for value and get them insured as I did, homeowners will not cover the value of most gun collections. I couldn't think of any legal problems, he's the only child as my son is, can anyone see a problem with this?? thanks in advance for your input mike
