I make targets here locally out of AR500 plate. I've got guys shooting 3/8 and 1/2 with 7mm mag (I think thats what he told me he was shooting). No issues. If that were one of my targets, I'd be calling my steel supplier and asking WTF.
Might be worth just getting one of the regular hole/paperclip guide rods as a backup and in case Dawson can't get your current one repaired or swapped by then. For ~$25 its cheap insurance to have in the bag. Using the same spring I can't imagine the gun actually shooting any different - just more frustrating to take down.
I still have the recoil master I took out in my bag. Just in case
I've got a tool less guide rod in my STI Apeiro and the pin that the lever pivots on keeps walking out and binding the spring about every 100 rounds or so. Has anyone else had happen and how did you fix it? Thanks
Most of the clubs I shoot at allow for a reshoot of the classifier after the match if you just absolutely tanked it during the match. This doesn't go for the match just goes for your classification.
When I used SWC in in my SS gun I loaded out to 1.260. I was having 3 point jams. I got my barrel throated and started loading to there and the problem went away.
Ditto what Sarge said. The only reason I have a powder check is because I bought the press used and it came with it. I use a floor lamp with one of those moveable arms to light the inside of the case (wife was going to throw it out and I repurposed it). I use 5 primer tubes per size. Thats about 30-45 min of loading and then I take a break.
Go with the 650. You'll want to eventually anyway. I can change from 45 to 40 in about 10-15 min. Even faster if you use SPP 45. I keep everything on its own tool head. Powder drop and all.
When I shot SS nats they updated scores at lunch and the end of the day. Did pretty good for paper scoring.
BTW I know of some good open shooters from here (1 GM) that are shooting it. They don't know production but are some good shooters.
I had mine installed to where the bigger part was below the arm and the skinnier was going through the hole in the arm. Kinda like a bushing. I notice it when it gets out as it takes more force on the up stroke(shell plate lowering). Usually thats about the time when it breaks. I just left it alone with the fat part under the arm and keep and eye on it to make sure the rod stays in the arm.
I started at 4.1 and loaded to 4.5 in .1 increments at 1.15. 4.5 avg 160 PF. I need to continue but haven't had time. I'm thinking 4.7 will be about right. This is out of a 5" Schumann barrel.
I've got an Apeiro and it has great accuracy with coated bullets. More accurate than the shooter thats for sure. I'm using 180gr I make and coat myself. I'd keep the Apeiro just because of the barrel. My .02
I started a company and did some from Gemini cause I didn't have a lot of extra cash. I did they're semi custom. Came to about $70 each I think but they're white. Never again on white.
