  1. "Take your time in the beginning, and the speed will come." That advice is obviously key, but hard to do. I'm gonna tack it up on the wall...
  2. lol Thanks. I got a lot to learn...
  3. Hey, this is a stupid question, but-There's a "Tier 2" match in Berryville this spring, and I can't figure out what that means as applied to this match. Specialty gun? Don't mean to be lazy, but I thought that designation meant BUG, Revolver or whatnot...
  4. Hope they produce a .45 version...
  5. IDPA rule changes shouldn't bother anybody by now, because historically and obviously there will be another rulebook re-do within a few months, anyway.
  6. Well, I'm older than Methuselah, but I'm still gonna have to go back to the drawing board-square #1... Glad I actually enjoy training.
  7. Well, I'm getting 3 books and a DVD. Got somethin' to do this winter besides continuing to repeat mistakes, hopefully...
  8. Cool. I know that when I acquire two distinct sight pictures, mine is more of a controlled pair, and very slow, especially with .45 ACP. After thousands of rounds through an M9 over about a 6-week period, I noticed a slight, but perceptible increase in speed. I've just lived with it... Now, what about strong- or weak-hand only? Locked...?
  9. Concur; this one is an outstanding resource.
  10. Thanks. Just ordered two Ben Stoeger books..
  11. Motosapiens; has your double-tap changed?
  12. Makes sense. I'll try it next time I shoot...
  13. Figure out how to get in the "zone". People evidently reach it in different ways; I use visualization and slow breathing prior to whatever activity I'm about to perform. Helps me to concentrate at a level much closer to optimum. I don't belong to IDPA or USPSA (as of yet), but I used to have to do a lot of shooting, and I stumbled onto the technique by accident in 1981. Just take regulated, deep breaths and visualize the drill you're gonna execute, and "allow" yourself to perform while you're still focusing.
  14. I plan to start work on a "bill drill" variation using my weak hand until I get it down below 3. Will re-post when I've accomplished the goal, circa '18-'21...
  15. I was fortunate in that I just picked up a M&P 45 (4.5) that has a trigger not unlike that of the stock trigger on a few of my 1911's (before any work was done). I was tickled to realize it would probably just smooth out while I got used to it over the course of a few hundred rounds of range fire, and wouldn't require any smithing or tinkerin'. I like the controls and lack of snap to the recoil; it just might get to be my favorite pistol after a while...
  16. lol Try a two-way range for some "jitters". Not meaning to be snide, but I find it hard to imagine getting nervous about a game.
  17. It's been my experience that many old guys maintain fast-twitch and coordination comparable to that of teens. Combine that innate capability with a seasoned mindset and polished shooting and handling skills, and you're looking at a true competitor. On the flip side, you'll run across old guys such as myself who are just too lazy to excel...
  18. The recoil moves my shoulders. In my case, it seems to reduce flip and allows the front sight to settle quicker. May well be the wrong thing to do, nowadays, but hey-I'm an old dog who has trouble with new tricks...
  19. Just realized I never posted an intro. Sorry 'bout that... Retired 3/7/SFG(A) in '94 and became a hillbilly in '06. Miss saltwater fishing, but I can shoot in my own backyard, now...
