  1. I had a couple guys look at my bolt/extractor/ejector at Heman and they thought there was enough tension in those parts to do the job. I would hope you could get more than 1000 rounds on an extractor/ejector before they went tits up. We happened upon a YouTube video showing a malfunction where the spent case was flipping back into the chamber so I got to looking at my receiver and noticed a good ding on my brass deflector and the edge of the port was all chewed up as well. (Notice the goldish discoloration on the edge of the port near the deflector). I compared this to my husband's rifle and his had a tiny grey mark where the top arrow is but that was it, nothing in the port where the lower arrow is pointing. His brass deflector did not have a sharp edge like mine. So wondering if the spent case was hitting things and flipping back in, We dremeled on it to remove the sharp edge and put a slight radius on the port edge. Well that didn't help either. Our load is a minimum charge (don't know how much) of 4064 behind a 168 gr bullet, going 2489 fps, but it has done this with factory ammo (perfecta stuff from Walmart) as well.
  2. Big Bertha is going in the trash if we can't get her running properly. I am having a failure to eject the spent case while trying to feed in a new round. The rifle is a DPMS with a JP parts consisting of a silent capture spring, gas block, lmos and enhanced bolt. It has a criterion 20" barrel on it. No more than 1700 rounds down the barrel and no more than 1500 rounds on the bolt carrier and bolt. I adjusted the gas to lock open after shooting the last round out of the mag. Had the jams. Gave it more gas. Still had jams. Picture included shows a typical jam. (Gonna have to continue this in another post since it won't allow me to upload another picture)
  3. I'm guessing you work at the NRA Whittington Center and we're probably around for the Heman Nationals this past weekend??? That is one of my favorite places to shoot 3-gun. Welcome from southern NM!
  4. I have a JP bolt in my rifle and my brass looks the same as well.
  5. I have StrelokPro on my phone and I have 223 and 308 rifles I would like to program information for. I can not see any way to save one set of data and enter another set. Is there something I am missing?
  6. Question about walk throughs on Thursday. Looks like with the exception of stages 1-5 in the morning, all the stages will be tied up with squads all day Thursday. Will we be allowed walk throughs on Thursday at all?
  7. Welcome from Alamogordo/La Luz! We shoot USPSA every fourth Sunday at the Sydney Paul Gordon Shooting Range in La Luz. Our match tomorrow will be an all classifier. Head on over and try out your new open gun! There are several guys that shoot with us from Carlsbad!
  8. A new Remington bolt was pretty pricey from brownells the last time we checked. Somewhere like $600 if I remember correctly, but that was some time ago that I looked and I have slept a lot since then....
  9. I can't speak to the bifocal part but I know I have trouble picking out the brown cardboard against the brown dirt of a berm. I went to a reddish lens in my glasses and that really helps. Then I wanted some transition type lenses that would go from tinted to clear. My glass maker person was not able to do a red tint, so I tried the brown and while it is not as good as the red, it is better than black/smoke grey.
  10. Thank you all so much for the replies! They will all help me. I tried focusing on the pause button and I didn't think for a moment! That was cool. Definitely some things for me to work on!
  11. (Not sure if this is the correct place to post this. Mods please move to the correct spot if needed) I would like to shut off the tape player the continually runs in my head. When I am making ready, then waiting for the beep, I am usually having a conversation with myself reminding me where the targets are, when I am going to reload, R.E.M. wrong to have good trigger control etc. It almost seems like the start beep interrupts this dialog but I "think" I have it shutoff moments before the beep. When I dry fire, I am verbally reminding myself to "remember to...... correctly" (whatever it was that I didn't do correctly the rep before) and for sure that dialog IS happening when the beep goes off. I have realized that when I am attempting to visualize something, I am actually telling myself what to do and am not actually seeing it in my minds eye. Problem is, the tape player NEVER shuts off. It goes on all day long. As a matter of fact, I have written this post a bazillion times in my head before now typing it out. So I need to figure out how to shut it off. I have tried the counting/diaphragm breathing exercise. I do it during the last "relaxation" pose at my weekly yoga class and I am horrible at it. (Although, it involves thinking things so not sure that would help anyways). I believe I need baby steps. Would there be any benefit to setting a short par time (like 5 seconds? I was serious about baby steps because I don't think I could even do 5 seconds) on a timer and trying to not think of anything at all during that time? Then increase the par time little by little? Any ideas of how to shut off that tape player so I can just "do" instead of "tell myself to do?"
  12. Yep. The poor crimp sucked. Not fun when you get pieces of shot rolling around inside the action. It will get where it isn't supposed to be then your semi automatic turns into a jammomatic.
  13. So it will be a little bit of a drive for you, then! Hope to see you at a match! I am in La Luz.
  14. Where are you at in SE New Mexico? Fort Bliss (El paso TX) is holding precision rifle matches, I think on first Saturday. There are quite a few places you can shoot USPSA and steel challenge in the southern New Mexico area. Las Cruces has USPSA first Saturday, Fort Bliss shoots second Saturday. Las Cruces has steel challenge third Saturday. I think Clovis also shoots third Saturday. Carlsbad shoots fourth Saturday. La Luz shoots fourth Sunday. And a shooter in Jal has built a range and is planning on shooting steel challenge and maybe USPSA as well. If you need any contacts let me know.
  15. Wanted to thank Mark Dzaimski for working so hard to make this event happen and to Patriot Outdoors for hosting the event. The stages were fun and the people were friendly. It was a great time!
  16. Thanks for the info. My 1911 breech face is also pitted and I had found leaking primers with it as well. I was chalking that up to the primers not seating properly but sounds like it is the Winchester large pistol primers as well.
  17. Anyone having problems with Winchester large rifle primers leaking? I thought my trouble was my brass and my primers seating crooked. But after buying some once fired prepped brass and hand seating the primers, I am still getting leaking primers. They ruined my first bolt in my dpms 308. So we got some once fired prepped brass, thought we had the problem solved. I put in a brand new JP bolt in my rifle and got three more leaking primers today and pits in my brand new bolt face. So I am thinks big we have a bad lot of primers and was wondering if anyone else noticed the same?
