Rockcastle 3-gun for March?
dcloudy777 replied to dcloudy777's topic in Multi-Gun, Rifle & Shotgun Match Announcements
Cool. Thanks Brian. -
It's much safer to carry it cocked and locked, the way it was designed. Less chance of an ND than lowering the hammer on an empty chamber, and MUCH less chance of getting your skull caved in with a tire iron while you're trying to cock the hammer.

Heavy Metal Irons
dcloudy777 replied to LSnSC's topic in Multi-gun Rules / Stage Design / Match Administration
I opined last year about just folding all Heavy Metal into the various divisions and giving a scoring advantage to 20 rds of .308 or 10 rds of .45. Configure your gear to shoot in whatever division you want (personally I think HM Open would be awesome). -
Any time I'm going to do something "funky" like Trap's example, or ripping off a gunbelt to clear an obstacle, or anything that I think the RO might not have seen that day, I always try to "ask permission". Some ROs handle the unexpected better than others, and the more they know about what I'm gonna do the less chance there is of getting stopped in the middle of a stage or DQ'd.

Changing an existing division is probably a losing proposition. Adding a "production" division at club level matches doesn't really hurt anything though, just a little tweaking of the scoring. From my experience talking to new and prospective 3-gun shooters, it's the auto shotgun that's the biggest hurdle. Pumps are still just a zillion time more prevalent. Red dots have a great place to play now, and with good results. I'd like to see pump shotguns get the same opportunity.

Can we make it a hi-vis color so it's easier to find in the deep woods underneath an ATV? Maybe add some torso padding?

Webley Mark VI, why are there no modern reproductions?
dcloudy777 replied to mcb's topic in Revolver Forum
Current metallurgy should make a modern top-break revolver very do-able. I'd love to have one. -
Yes, but 5.56 isn't exactly punishing to begin with, and not having to worry about sight offset could easily speed up close range stuff to take away the time added my increasing muzzle rise.
-
I hear what you're saying, but to a lot of these "new guys", order of finish at club matches is really important (they aren't going to the "big matches" yet, remember), and getting to compare their score to shooters with very similar equipment is exactly what many of them are looking for. Positive reinforcement is critical at the beginner level more than any other. Think about it this way: which of these two shooters is more likely to come back and shoot next month... the one who came in 5th in a 9 person division where everyone shot the same kind of stuff, or the one who came in 34th in a 40 person match where 3/4s of the shooters had vastly better equipment?
-
I think the game could really benefit from a "Production" division, more at the local/club level than major matches. I've discussed it here before. Basically: Rifle: irons or 1X sights, 30rd mags, otherwise Limited/Tac specs. Shotgun: pump shotguns, possibly with a slightly reduced starting capacity (7 or 8 at the buzzer instead of 9) Pistol: anything legal in USPSA production or any IDPA division, 15rd mag limit. The idea being a division with "equipment parity" using the guns that "gun people" that aren't already into 3 Gun almost certainly already have, and count on to defend their families.

Okay, fair warning, this one is off the wall, even for me. Another fair warning, it involves the silly NY/CA AR compliance stocks, which can be painful to look at, so proceed with caution. Have a look at this: http://www.google.com/imgres?sa=X&rls=%7Bmoz%3AdistributionID%7D%3A%7Bmoz%3Alocale%7D%3A%7Bmoz%3Aofficial%7D&biw=1600&bih=771&tbm=isch&tbnid=EXzBAVtwfA_2AM%3A&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.exilemachine.net%2Fshop%2Fexile-machine-hammerhead-ca-legal-ar-15-stock-adapter-1.html&docid=rlYnFzZfzIxykM&imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.exilemachine.net%2Fimages%2FTYPE_I_NYS.JPG&w=600&h=208&ei=QEv6UpnEJ8vqkQfK9IC4DQ&zoom=1&ved=0CFcQhBwwAQ&iact=rc&dur=2223&page=1&start=0&ndsp=20 Now, after your eyes stop hurting, picture it without the Eotech or standard AR sights. Now, picture it with something like M1A sights... a good low rear aperture way back on the buffer tube, right next to the shooter's eye, and a good low front sight way out near the muzzle. A sweet, long sight radius, down close to the bore, but with AR mags and controls..... what's not to like? And you certainly wouldn't have any trouble spotting your gun in the racks.

What are you shooting at Revolver Nationals 6 or 8?
dcloudy777 replied to Koppi's topic in Revolver Forum
Major. I never found a deal on a 627, and I doubt I'll be able to find a 929 any time soon. -
In all honesty, I wasn't a fan of the rule change, and didn't think it would bring in many new shooters at all. I happily admit that it looks like I was wrong. And now I really want a new 929.
-
The 929 makes good sense for me... I shoot primarily 3-gun, with USPSA Revo as a new "side gig". My 3-gun CZ SP-01 will shoot anything... I can work up a load for the 929 and it will work fine in the auto. I also do end up shooting quite a bit of factory 9, as I can't seem to stop finding good deals on it. I'm really glad I couldn't find a deal on a 627 last year.

I'll try to make it up there for this one. -
2014 Revolver Nationals Entries
dcloudy777 replied to revoman's topic in Revolver Match Announcements and Discussions
App went in the mail today. Gonna shoot major if I get in. I shot last year's Revo Nats... it was a hoot. It was the first big "pistol only" match I'd shot in several years... running around with gear for only one gun was awesome! I signed up to shoot the SS match Saturday too. -
This should be easier to get than most "hot new guns". I wager about half the market for this gun is posting in this thread.
-
Smith really needs to swap barrels on these two SKU's. In an ideal world, they'd shorten the cylinder and use a "set-back" barrel like they did on the 625-10. A 6" gun that was the same length as a 5" 625 would be awesome.
-
I think they should offer them for the first 30 days one each only to people with current USPSA revolver classifications.
-
Awesome. I'm really glad I haven't been able to find a 627 now.
-
I'll be back to RO again if you'll have me. No ATVs this year though. DanO
