  1. It is interesting that you mention this. I shot the classifier in practice today just to get a baseline of where I am and what I need to work on. I found that on the left most target and the center target I was pretty good but on the right hand target I was a bit erratic on all of the strings of fire. IIRC I was down a total of 6 points for the left and center targets for the entire classifier and down 13 on the right hand target. Now I just have to figure out what it means.
  2. I am glad you feel that way. I don't really know what my position is on the matter as I haven't given it any serious thought. What I do know is that it is stupid to say that a sport that has a mandatory minimum does more harm to gun rights than the worst anti-gun zealots. I wonder what my stay would be like in these parts if I had made such a foolish over the top statement about USPSA?
  3. WTF? That comment was 100% completely out of line and so wrong on so many levels it defies rational logic. I don't care if you have issues with IDPA just do us a favor and keep them to yourself not to mention it is a board rule. I don't have issues with IDPA. I have big issues with their age limit rule. The rule establishes an unneccessary hurdle for young shooters regardless of their parental involvement, skill, safety, experience etc. The rule plays into the hands of the gun banners. Don't forget how Bill Ruger aided the gun banners with his 15 round limitation on magazines for civilians proposal (so he could more efectively compete with Glock). The banners ran with the concept and restricted it futher down to 10 rounds. Thanks to this age rule, the banners can point at a major shooting organization that supports a minimum age for partcipation. You can count on the Brady Campaign to take that concept and restrict it further. An age limit prevented this young man from shooting. This exact same result that the Brady Campaign desires .... purge the knowledge of firearms from our youth so that someday no one in America will know about them. SRT Driver defined my position ... if the shooter is safe, I don't care how young or old they are. There are some older shooters who scare the daylights out of me. I have shot with a 10 year old in USPSA with no issues (other than him beating me). The kid was trying to shoot a USPSA match not an IDPA match. The rule that you are railing against didn't have anything to do with the son being denied the right to shoot and in fact it doesn't prevent young shooters from shooting it prevents them from shooting an IDPA match. Our local club has a very, very good small bore program that is only open to children over the age of 14. That doesn't change the fact that I routinely see kids younger than that honing their skills under the guideance of an adult despite the fact that they can't participate. There is a big difference between the two. I wonder how many posters here shot an IDPA match or a USPSA match before the age of 12? I'd be willing to bet very few have. Heck I shot all manner of firearms for close to 20 years before I shot my first IDPA match. In the grand scheme of things it is not that big of a deal and for you to equate that with the actions of the Brady bunch was way out of line. It was stupid, unnecessary and overly provocative and quite clearly out of tune with the state parameters of this forum. What we need is rational discussion not over the top hysterics. It is a shame that the father and son had to drive all the way to a match just to find out that the son wasn't able to shoot. I feel for the young man as it certianly could have been handled in a better manner. At least with IDPA you know up front that kids under 12 aren't eligible to participate. I know you don't care for that rule and that is your right but quite frankly I don't care.

  5. I'm here too, Thanks Sinister for putting me in touch with Hamp, looks like it's going to be a kick ass match. I have a bud who would like to come along as a spectator as well, he will not have any firearms, should he have any issues getting on post? We will be in the same rent car BTW. Wow, at least 3 PS.com folks on a Competition based Board, TS and NDD will wig out when they find this out I wondered how long it would take for you to show up. BTW there is more than 3 ps folks floating around these parts some are just better at hiding than others.
  6. Even though I never knew the man I am sorry to hear of his passing.
  7. Doh. Well, you should have taken the long drive to Old Bridge, you would have had fun and we ran you through a quick safety check. One day soon Vlad. It is a bit of a haul but I have been looking forward to shooting a different sport. The funny thing is that some of the guys that I SO at IDPA matches also shoot at your matches.
  8. What was so hard about letting your kid shoot the first stage of the day before everyone else to demonstrate his ability? Likewise there is a club here in NJ that I went to shoot my first USPSA match a year ago. Bare in mind I have been shooting IDPA for a couple of years but I was turned away by the MD. At the time I was told that to shoot one of his matches you have to either attend his annual new shooters seminar or take the long drive down to Old Bridge for a match. It po'd me to the point where I haven't bothered to go back. I am all for having a safe sport but at what point do we cut our noses off to spite our own faces. Every IDPA match I have attended has allowed first time shooters to show up and participate. It is sad when short sighted MD's turn away people interested in the sport.
  9. They custom-load Max and Travis' ammo to the Army's specs. It's not an off-the-shelf retail item, though it is possible get in on that production run if you talk to them at the right time and order enough. Actually that isn't correct. The only difference between what Max shoots an what you can buy dircetly from AAA is the actual bullet (IIRC the off the shelf is round nosed and Max's is flat nosed) and that came straight from Danny Weisner's mouth. The difference for the reason is that your average shooter doesn't want to pay that extra couple of dollars for the difference in the bullet for very little return on the end result. Having said all that it still doesn't change the fact that AAA sells a 38Super round that makes major.
  10. Atlanta Arms and ammo makes a 38 Super round that makes major. I was told that they make Max's ammo for him.
  11. That's ok my state just elected a clown who thinks no one should be allowed to own a gun.
  12. Sinister it is great to see you posting here. I read your reply to Air over on the PS boards and was impressed with what you guys are doing with that match. BTW, thanks for living on the tip of the spear.
  13. It must be nice to have good luck. I won a High-viz fiber optic front sight front sight for a gun I didn't own.
  14. If you follow Phil Terry's link the ATF has guidelines to determine who the manufacturer is. IN the case of a gun build on a base receiver the gunsmith is considered the manufacturer.
  15. From the BATFE website: I don't know how many guns Bob makes versus how many STI's he sells. If he makes less than 50 guns a year on frames that he supplies than he is exempt from charging FET on those guns. On the guns from STI FET would still be charged. I could be wrong.
  16. I love my T9. It is rated for 175 lumens wiht an 80 minute run time. I ran it side by side with a more expensive surefire and the beam was much brighter on mine. Quality is on par with Streamlight but slightly behind the Surefires. Even then it isn't as bad as one would think given Surefires place in the market.
  17. I talked to Peggy on that Tuesday and she said she still had a handful of Thrusday slots which were gone by wed. afternoon. Go figure.... I would really love to know how they handle the applications because the math never seems to add up.
  18. Which NY Walmart? After buying ammo from the Walmart in Monsey for over a year I was told by a employee that I had never seen that I needed a NY permit to buy ammo. When I produced my NJ FID I was told that it was a no go. Not one to take no for an answer I went accross the street to the police department and asked if there was a new state law and was told no. Often times the problem with Walmart employees is that they aren't very well trained. It doesn't mean much if you are working in the electronics section but it does when you are selling firearms and ammo. Instead of guessing and being wrong and getting in legal trouble over it some employees make up excuses to avoid the situation. In my case I went back a week later and spoke with the manager of sporting goods and he admitted as much. Tell your daughter to go back in there and stand her ground. I haven't had a problem since I did, other than waiting 30 minutes to find an employee with the key for the case.
  19. He did indeed mention something about 9MM capacity but since I was talking to him from work I was distracted and now I can't remember if he said 9 or 10 rounds.
  20. The metalform mags that I am using have a capacity of 9. I seem to remember seeing someone make a 10 rounder but can't remember who. 10MMdave that is a Heinie magwell. The nice thing about the mag well is that you have to mill the receiver down to fit it. That gun is as tall as your run of the mill 1911 without a magwell on it and isn't much wider. On the down side once it is fit you are stuck with it. I like the way it feels in my hand so it isn't an issue. I could see how it wouldn't feel right for some people.
  21. I am using the ramped metalform mags. Virgil tuned them and thus far they have been right on the money. Virgil also mentioned that he is about to expand his magazine line greatly. The new line will included dedicated 9MM mags of varying capacity and finishes. Same thing goes to 10MM, 40 S&W. I think he said they were 6 months out on the new mags.
  22. You are correct. I should have proof read my original post. The gun has been 100% on the money from the get go and I couldn't be any happier. I have been running 147 grain JHP match ammo from Atlanta Arms through it and it feels like cheating. There is so little recoil in that set up that is almost comical.
  23. I had this gun built to ease the load on my training budget and for use in ESP. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out and haven't had any issues with it thus far. For giggles I might have a 38 Super barrel fitted somewhere down the road. edited for poor grammer
  24. Sheeple. The level of trust that people are willing to put in their government is astounding. It's not like Europeans have to go that far back in their history for examples of governments willing to slaughter millions of their own citizens.
  25. I don't think Coke's involvement with IDPA is at the national level. If I were a betting man I would say it was the local distributor that was behind the sponsorship (not that it matters in my book). It may or may not make sense for a national brand to sponsor a sport that is sadly considered out of the mainstream in many blue states especially if it is considered out of the mainstream in their target demographic. It does however make sense for them to sponsor matches in regions where firearms are considered the norm.
