  1. Assuming that you are talking about a 10 round 9MM mag Virgil Tripp has one on the way. I talked to him a couple weeks ago and he said he had the bugs worked out and that it should be in production by the end of the year. If there is anyone alive that can get a 10 round 9MM to work it would be Virgil. I am looking forward to it.
  2. Mr Neck, For the record, a three doesn't help out with a FTN penalty. You have to have at least one hit in the -0 or -1 scoring area to not get a FTN. That said, I get your point in general, it can be a game of millimeters. Ken Reed Thanks Ken. I meant to say I had two misses that barely missed the down one (one caused a FTN)....
  3. What I do not understand is why the membership of IDPA are not able to get together and make the needed changes. One reason I suspect is that Bill Wilson is the "Owner" of IDPA and it is a Corperation. Bingo. What Bill wants Bill gets. I love IDPA but I think it could be a much better sport with a little effort in a couple areas. Sadly, I think Bill won't change anything if it means adopting ideas from USPSA no matter how much sense it makes.
  4. Dennis, I had two "misses" that barely missed the down three (one casued a FTN) and a hit on a non threat where the bullet hole barely touched the down three perforations. Certianly it was my responsibility to make the hits but a couple centimeters here and there and my score is 13 seconds faster. Some days you make mistakes and get away with it. Yesterday I had three bad shots all day and each one cost me. That is what I meant by not catching a break. I had no issues with the SO's. I still had a good time.
  5. I shot it Sat AM and had a really good time. This is my second year shooting it and it was as much fun this year as it was last. I didn't catch any breaks so it was frustrating from that standpoint but all in all it was still a lot of fun. My only complaint was that one of the first two stages (the one with the revolver bug and dummy) was set up in a way that it made it unnecessairly unfair to left handed shooters. As a lefty I have come to accept the fact that most stages are set up by a righty and you learn to live with it, but that first stage went too far IMHO.
  6. Jerry I took the class two years ago and we watched the IDPA video on how to run a match and then went through the rule book and several what ifs. All in all it was about 6 hours in length, no practical and certianly no written exam. There was 20+ guys in my class.
  7. IDPA doesn't need fault lines. What IDPA needs IMHO is a better training program for SO's. I'm sorry but a 45 minute video and a read through of the rule book just doesn't cut it. I am all for a live practical exam to see how much they absorbed and a mandatory refresher course every two or three years. There is no excuse for an SO who barely knows the rules. Some guys get fixated on watching the shooters target instead of the shooters gun and where he is coverwise. Another thing that can be improved is for MD's making sure that each scorer is an SO and empowers them to call procedurals if the SO missed it. All to often they defer to the SO and the result is uneven officiating. This isn't needless SO bashing as I am an SO and make every effort to get better at doing the job. Some guys couldn't care less.
  8. What's the rush? Couldn't they wait until SS is an official division before having this discussion? Count me as one ticked off member if L10 goes away. I have no desire to shoot production or revolver and I live in a state that requires me to break the law if I want to be competitive in Lim or open. I know some guys already do that, and god bless them, but that isn't a road that I want to go down. That leaves me with SS and L10 to play in and I prefer L10 over SS.
  9. where in PA is next years match??? Guthsville, which is 15 minutes northwest of Allentown.
  10. Luckily September in Pa. is quite nice. I am already looking forward to next years nationals. It also helps that it will only be 90 minutes from home for me.
  11. Wow. This time last year Craig, who posts here under the name of Bones, was an expert. A year later he finished second overall. Very impressive.
  12. This is going to become a bigger and bigger problem for HQ if they don't change the way they classify what constitutes a SSP gun. As more and more manufacturers develop proprietary trigger systems the line between DA and SA is becoming blurred very quickly. The Glock vs XD was the first example of it and it is only going to get worse. I don't know what the answer is but for the XD to be excluded from SSP while Glock and the M&P are good to go is pitiful. I have owned both the Glock and the XD and there is no advantage to using the XD trigger over the Glock.
  13. The gun can be used in both unless you modify it in a manner that makes it illegal for SSP.
  14. The 1911 was never designed to run with such a short cartridge. As a result if the gun isn't properly set up or properly maintained you will have issues. I have a Caspian built by Tripp research that runs like a swiss watch. The only problem I had with it was with a bad Ed Brown extractor hook which sheared after only 5,000 rounds.
  15. I use a single stack 9MM in ESP. I can't stand Glocks so the choice was pretty easy for me. If I had to pick another gunfor ESP I would go with the 5 inch XD in 9MM but am happy with what I am currently running. As far as being disadvantaged by having 9+1 vs 10+1 it is a non issue for me. I can'tecall ever shooting a stage that required 11 shots. The nice thing about 9+1 is that unless there is steel or the COF requires 3 shots on a target you will never run dry on a target. YMMV.

    Glock Ad = Dq

I am not a Glock expert by any means but isn't possible with a weaker and shorter plundger spring that some powder residue/grit may cause the pluger to get stuck in the up position. Usually that would be very difficult with a stock spring but on the one glock I owned the fit of the plunger to the slide was tight. I wonder if a weaker spring might not have enough ooompf to reset the plunger if fouling is present. In that case the gun could fire without having your finger on the trigger.
  17. They knew he was guilty because he told the Thai police details of the crime that were never disclosed to the public.
  18. Knowing a couple PA Police officers and hearing their stories about Newark I would never fly out of Newark with a gun that I was attached to. Odds are that Newark is just as bad as O'Hare and then you have to deal with LEO's that don't understand NJ firearms law.
  19. How about someone suing United for violating federal law by using a tag that indicates the presence of a firearm. The only way to get big companies to act is to hit them where it hurts.
  20. I look forward to the day that I can get my son into shooting. He isn't ready yet but his old man can't wait. I remember my uncle taking me to shoot trap when I was 11. It was the first time I had ever seen a real live gun let alone fired one. I was hooked from that moment on. It is nice that you are making those memories for your son. One day he will do the same for his.
  21. I want to say no because that is not an aftermarket part but it a seriously grey area and I dobut and MD will ever say anything about it. For me this is one of the dumber IDPA rules and I shoot more IDPA than USPSA. I see no difference between that treatment you do to an M&P than adding an aftermarket product like tru-grip. Both serve the same exact purpose it shouldn't matter if one is reversable and the other is not. As a side note Hackathorn is no longer on the BOD and while he loves to pontificate in the Tactical journal his opinions are just that. Unless HQ declares it illegal Hackathorn is not the final word on rules interpretation.
  22. There are no rules in the rule book vis a vis your concealment garment that deals with having your pockets closed. The only thing the rulebook has to say about concealment is that it must cover the gun when your arms are held out to the side and that no "competition" only gear or modifications is permitted. I use a 5.11 vest and I tuck all the pocket flaps in.
  23. The big question is would the bullet be able to hold the oxygen in the case long enough to fire. As we all know from HS physics that gases always seek the area of lowest pressure. In the case of the bullet the air in the case will be at greater pressure than the surrounding atmosphere. The gas trapped in the case will try to get out and the only thing holding it in is the bullet. The question then becomes is there enough tension (friction) between the bullet and the case neck to over come the gas as it seeks to escape.
