  1. God, I hope they don't add another division. I don't see the point of having a high cap division. IMHO it doesn't add anything of value to the sport, while at the same time it marginalizes the valuable skill of reloading on 80% of IDPA stages. If they do add one I would prefer that they recognize, true compact carry guns, with barrels 3.5 inches and shorter.
  2. Another young guy to keep an eye on over the next couple of years is James McGinty. This time last year he was an expert. This year he finished 6th in ESP master. I have seen him shoot a local major matches and he gets better and better each time that I see him shoot.
  3. As I said in the other thread when the targets are close, say 5 yards or less, and you put a tight group of three into the down zero on the last target of an array which also happens to get you to slide lock at an advantageous moment it is obvious. You can always claim that the SO can never know what is going through a shooters mind and you would be correct, but if you are warned before hand that they are going to be watching for round dumping at a particular spot in a COF and you go ahead and do it, than it's all on the shooter.
  4. Why does every thread on this board having to do with IDPA always end up with someone bitching about the rules? It gets really old really quickly.
  5. Not impure, per se, but blatant and obvious. The SO on that stage made his expectations perfectly clear before hand. The distance to the target array in question was so close that it was fairly foolish to put three about an inch apart into the down zero, and then claim with a straight face that you weren't aware of your hits. It makes it even more obvious when that third shot just so happen to get you to slide lock and an convenient emergency reload before leaving cover for P3.
  6. There was no chrono. I don't know why but there wasn't one. A bunch of us from NJ shoot the match and I thought we acquitted ourselves quite well across the board. Of course I didn't shoot as weel as I would have liked to but I missed most of July and August recovering from a broken foot. Ken Ortbach, the IDPA Postal Match co-MD and a fellow Garden Stater, won the SSR marksman title.
  7. Dave did shoot an XD and Ernie an M&P. I think it is premature to write the 1911 off, but these new guns have closed the gap on the old slabsides. I expect you'll see more and more of the XD's, M&P and SF's, simply because you can be really competitive with one and they are a hell of a lot cheaper than a tuned 1911.
  8. I looked as I left the range and Dave Olhasso was first in CDP ahead of Dave Sevigny and Ernie Langdon. Bob Vogel was winning SSP and Donnie Burton had a comfortable lead in ESP.
  9. If you are asking about CR Speed belts, they are illegal in IDPA.
  10. I won't ever forget. Six years ago today I was sitting in an office less than half a mile away from the WTC watching it happen. I had just spoken to a friend from high school who never made it home that day. The guy who sat right next to me and his brother who sat across from me had a brother who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald who never made it home that day. His wife had just given birth to their first child. That and the half dozen people who I knew socially that died that day makes it impossible for me to ever forget what happened.
  11. What, you don't like my picture? And that was on a good day too. I have been shooting IDPA for the past 3 or 4 years and during that time it has been almost exclusively with a 1911 in ESP or CDP. I am starting to get a little burned out and it seems like shooting a revolver changes the way the game is played. I am really excited about giving it a go after nationals. I just hope that I don't make a fool of myself in the process. I suppose I am asking the wrong questions here. I don't know much about revolvers and really wonder if used is the right way to go. I have a pretty good deal with a local FFL so I never have to pay more than $25 over dealer cost. I wonder if I am being penny wise and dollar foolish going with a used model 15 (and what ever abuse it suffered in its previous life) instead of buying a brand new model 10 or 67.
  12. I have finally gotten around to looking for a gun to use in SSR. One of the local dealers has a 4 inch model 15 in stock and he wants $350 for it. Other than a small spot of rust on the rear sight the finish looks brand new, it locks up really tightly, and the rifling is good with no bulges. Is the price right? and is it a good choice for SSR? Thanks
  13. Including, wouldya believe, Dave Sevigny. Not a bad way to get the G21sf some free publicity.
  14. What is the rationale behind that ruling?
  15. A small drop of krazy glue where the tube passes through the sight will keep the sucker from coming free. I melted mine but they worked their way free. After hitting them with heat a second time and adding a drop of krazy glue at the right place and it has been rock solid for two years.
  16. Our sport only works through the hard effort and good will of our fellow shooters. Those who won't help should be told not to come back. I know it sounds harsh but people who won't help are not only being disrespectful to their fellow shooters but the the sport itself. If you publicly ban the habitual offenders you'll get the other slackers attention quickly. Throwing rolls of tape and angry comments might help for a stage or two but isn't a long term solution.
  17. Nice shooting. The match went really well despite the fact that this was the first run. Hopefully it will be bigger next year.
  18. No you are out of luck. No USPSA matches, no IDPA matches and no knock down steel matches in NJ this coming weekend. This month is a bit odd as there are 5 Sunday's in the month and this Sunday is the 5th one.
  19. +1 Ask and you shall receive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_(slang)
  20. Hopefully you had some good company with you on that drive. I feel your pain.
  21. Some of these boneheads in the media can't get past the Hollywood BS. As if shooting from the hip somehow made a rifle more deadly. Who needs a good sight picture when trying to hit something. If I ever have the misfortune of being on the wrong end of an AR I pray the other idiot is shooting from the hip and not taking aim.
  22. I don't know where you are as a shooter, but recently I have come to the conclusion that I been putting the cart before the horse. I was always worried about being faster while shooting when I should have been worried about doing everything else faster. For me I spend much more time drawing, reloading, moving and transitioning between targets than I do on actual shooting. Speeding up the shooting part won't lead me to improve as quickly as cutting down on all the other stuff. In my case, being able to run really fast splits is useless if I am losing more time on my transitions. In my mind I can have my cake and eat it too. If I speed up on all the other stuff I can still be accurate when I am on the target. As I get better, and the competition gets stiffer I am sure that I'll have to tighten those splits, but until I am as fast as I can get with my draws, reloads, course management and transitions than it isn't worth it to me to try and push the actual shooting part and risk dropping points. YMMV.
  23. It's in the can. I'm about to send in the results. We had decent conditions for set up and great weather for the match. We were watching the storm clouds gather as we finished, but it didn't start raining until after we were all home. This may have been posted somewhere earlier, but where do I find the results for this match? We shot it a couple of weeks ago, and I was under the impression that they would be updating the scores weekly. Is this correct? TG That is incorrect. Walt Jones is doing all the scoring for the match, and results will not be posted until after the conclusion of the match. You can find the average time for your division and class (as well as some other interesting info) here: http://www.nepaidpascores.net/postal/2007-05-15status.htm
  24. 430+ shooters with three weeks still left to go. Not to shabby.
  25. I am in squad 18 shooting Friday and Saturday. Who else is going?
