  1. I came to this pistol game directly from shooting my Anschutz 54 action in rimfire silhouette. Between shooting bulleye with the High Standard target pistol and the Anschutz trigger think I have a rough idea of a decent trigger and what it feels like. If pull weight makes now difference in shooting ability why do the benchrest boys all play with ounces instead of pounds? Yes, the indian has a little something to do with it, but the analogy of which wing of the air plane is more important comes to mind right away. TGO or Sevigney could kick my rear with a $175 Ivor Johnson 9mm, but there are equipment choices that facilitate good shooting. When it comes down to it, if you think that an investment in anyone's trigger or anyones pistol for that matter is going to take you from a D shooter to an A shooter you don't understand the game. By the same token, your performance can be enhanced with proper equipment. To perform at peak you need both wings of the air plane to make it fly. Thanks for the info on the trigger kit everyone - look forward to trying it out and like someone else said, if I don't like I, I can always put the other parts back in and I'm not out a lot of money.
  2. Ordered one of these myself. My current trigger with a 4# reduced striker spring in a G34 and polishing goes 2.75 pounds. Bluntly 3/4 of a pound for $50 sounds like a real winner to me. I hope that it really drops the 3/4 of a pound but will be happy if it drops 1/2 pound. I am using the stock trigger spring and stock plunger button spring and the trigger bar isn't drilled so these three additions should be an improvement over what I have now. How hard is it to get the trigger off of the bar in the first place? I know that there are instructions in the kit, but I have never disconected the trigger bar from the trigger. Rick
  3. It's nice to see support for those that use their product. Good deal - congrats. Rick

I thought that it was going somewhere else, but I still smiled at the end.
  5. It's probably my old slow machine, but I see sniper's videos in any kind of smooth play. It just goes from one still to another. The audio comes through fine on my machine. DJ PoLo's vids come through fine for me. Anyone else have this same problem?
  6. Nothing to really brag about Ben. I have just been doing so terrible when I have shot the last half doz classifiers it was pretty pittiful. The classifier was 99-11 EL Pres. I shot it in holman and shot the fastest production score that day of a slow 7.07 but the score was slow and the Mike didn't do anything for me either. That hit factor then was in the mid 3s somewhere. I shot it again on Sunday and shot a 6.54 HF which was 63% or a low B. Again, my average of the burn them down classifiers is only 41% or a real low C. I actually felt slow shooting this last one and the time was 7.94 with 52 points - 8 As and 4 Cs. Again, nothing to brag about but a movement on the classifiers in the right direction. Thick headed fellow that I am I have to learn patience and let me eyes be the speedometer and control the trigger finger and not the other way around. I'm getting better, but a long way to go. This board is helping me alot. First year doing this stuff - just bought the gun in Jan. Ben, I'll see you next Saturday. Rick
  7. Thanks for the good info and the prompt response.
  8. I've seen it mentioned a few times, but couldn't find anything in a search. I am looking to find out when classifiers don't count towards your classification for being much higher than your average. Is there a number like anything higher than 20% over your average doesn't count or some such rule? My average is low because I have been blazing away at some of my recent classifiers to shoot above my ability level (that didn't work) so this weekend I slowed down got my hits and scored 22% above my official average. Will it count or get bounced? Sometimes, I'm slow to learn but the lightbulb finally turned on.

Don't know the answer but you could find it here with some digging: http://www.sassnet.com/Shooters-Handbook-001A.php I've never shot a SASS match. Rick
  10. Just remember IDPA is still a shooting game, if you really want to study tactics your time is better spent doing that. It's a competition with different rules and not all of them make sense nor do they need to - these are just the rules of this game. Have fun shooting it and enjoy.
  11. For the last couple of months I have been trying to shoot above my ability level and faster than I can see. I have really tanked some qualifiers. Today at the match I walked up and said forget the time, hit these targets. I on purpose slowed down, felt like I was slower but shot the points. Finished with my highest classifer for the year. Nothing to brag about compared to most shooters here, but for ME, it was the highest classifier shot. That spoke volumes to myself. On another note. Matches are won by points, but classifiers are not by points but rather HF. You don't want your classification to be out of line with your match scores though. Just something to think about. Rick
  12. It's just some oil that is glossy in the shot. Shooter Grrl, she looks beautiful. Nice new addition, and glad to hear that runs as great as she looks.
  13. Nice post Brian, thanks for sharing. I lost my Dad this year and my wife lost her mother. Nuff said.
  14. Just got home from Polo. Pounded down a quart of water before I left this morning. Drank another quart on the range. I don't remember sweating this much in a long, long time. They had water on most stations and the EZ popup style tent tops for shade. The baby stroller cart, cooler and large golf umbrella made it much nicer than hauling that big bag around by hand like I normally do. I had a towel with me and I really don't know how I would have coped without it. I had to wipe down several times while just waiting to shoot. I did forget the sun screen but the umbrella did a good job for me. I had a couple of rough runs with some steel today but I shot the classifier OK so all and all I came home fairly content. I can't always say that. I will say that the people that stayed this afternoon to shoot rifle and shotgun in this heat are die hards. The 120 or so pistol rounds were enough for me. Really glad to hit the Air con in the car for the ride home.
  15. Alma explained it very well. To prove it to yourself shoot the gun off of sandbags and then free hand. If the groups move lower left it is usually trigger control or milking with the strong hand. One more trick. Relax slightly the right hand grip (for a right hander) and strengthen slightly the week hand. A good trigger job will also help. Rick
  16. Trigger, I thought that I would see you in Polo today. What's the problem man, it's only going to be 103 and humidity is 94% right now. Let's do it!
  17. Off to a match today that will test endurance. Temps are suppose to be 103 today and the humidity is 94% right now. Have been hydrating this morning. Let's see if I can make the 2 hour drive without stopping. Have the baby stroller/jogger range cart, umbrella, cooler and chair to help with the gig today. Should be interesting. Maybe I should just stay home but as they say the worst day shooting is better than staying at home. Don't expect greatness today, but everyone will be dealing with the same conditions, just need to keep my head screwed on straight. Out of here in 15 mins. Gotta go. Rick
  18. Now, I'm back where I started from with the knowledge base. Thanks Eric. Heath, that rulebook will mess with you if you look under the IPSC section and are shooting USPSA matches. It's happened to me in the past. Rick
  19. You can't use a melted Bo-mar in production??? I don't doubt you, I was just surprised by that. They are IDPA legal in all divisions. I learn something new everyday on this board. Rick
  20. Great stuff Ben. So you were right. Even though you admitted that the tac reload is more fumble prone and that you didn't practice them as much you found it consistantly faster while moving. Point well taken. I'm not too proud to admit that I was wrong. Thanks for being a sport and trying it out me. So to recap the time savings is that once you stuff the mag in you can haul rear right away. In a situation of just standing shooting one shot and doing the reload the Tac load is still slower. In the middle of my reply I set up two boxes and did the same excercise. The boxes were only about 12 feet apart and I worked off of a par time which took some experiemtation with to get right. I started with the gun up and ready. At the buzzer I dry fired one round and stowed the mag and reloaded like a regular RWR and then moved and hit the next box and pressed the trigger. For my set up doing it my way it was around 4.0 secs. For me the tac load was about .1 or .2 faster, but remember I never do this type of reload. Even though it was faster by a small margin over this very limited space that I was playing it (I feel sweat running down my back as I am typing) I had a couple that I totally botched this way (TAC). I can see if you practiced it and the opportunity arose for this exact application that you could save some time and some time is all that it takes once in a while. Thanks again Ben.
  21. No issues with rust here, but the conditions sound different. Love the Dawson adjustables, have them on both of the G34s that I have. One note, I do shoot one in production and will be shooting the other in Limited shooting minor so it can be done - won't be winning anything but I will have fun with the Dawson base pads. If you wanted to compete with your G34 in USPSA the Production division is where the 9mm will do its best without giving anything up to major PF guns since the whole division is minor scoring. So if you want to shoot just 10 rounds in the gun plus one go production. If you want a full mag and basepad extensions you can still play in limited but you are giving away points. I'm doing it just for fun.
  22. Ben, it is a procedural to download on 99% of the COFs out there. I know you have shot the classifier and there are strings of fire in the classifier that you must download your mag to shoot correctly. This is what I am speaking to. Only less than 10+1 where the COF demands it. I always thought it was a procedural no matter what and it isn't in this case it's required. In Matt Burkett DVD on IDPA he is the one that recomended never doing a tac reload. When you put the three types on a timer which I have done, the fastest to slowest in IDPA is emergency, the RWR then TAC reload. It's Matt's idea to never to a tac reload and I agree with him 100%. A tac reload is a bobble waiting to happen in my opinion. Maybe you master class guys can do that stuff really fast but for most of us it isn't a good idea. Here's one for you that should be easy to do and I know that you always dry fire. Put two IPSC style boxes up 15' apart. At the buzzer shoot one round and do a RWR and then move to the next box and fire one round. In the second senario shoot one at the buzzer and do a Tac reload and fire a round when you hit the second box. Let me know which you find faster. I'll try to do the same but since I don't practice tac reloads it won't be as good of a test as if it was from someone that is good at both types of reloads. Would seriously like to know times for both. Thanks Ben.
  23. I actually like BenchMade for a working man's blade. Love the Axis Lock. My EDC (everyday carry is a mini-grip) but have a 705, two 710s and one of my favorites of all time is an 806 D2. I'll own a large Sebbie one day, but it WON'T be my EDC. Rick
  24. Saw your post at Glock Talk: http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=409579 So the new locking block didn't do you any good? Rick
  25. Your Glock is a two pin design not a three pin correct? You are breaking the larger of the two pins?
