  1. TT shooting Live Free or Die at Area 3. Max Michel shooting Stage 10: We the People at Area 3 Area 3 Stage 3: O' Say Can We See being shot by Julie Goloski. Dave Sevigny shooting Stage 7: Crossing the Delaware. Phil Strader shooting Stage 6: Justice for All. More photos from the 2005 Area 3 Championship can be seen on the USPSA web site. Joe W.
  2. I am not sure that is the MOST powerful handgun in the world, I came across one chambered in .600 Nitro Express. I will have to see if I can find the link to post here. Joe W.
  3. ROFL A guy I used to run around with had a cat that got that hair cut EVERY summer, long haired cats and summer don't mix well. Anyway, one night he woke up with an odd feeling and looked at the foot of his bed. His cat, with said haircut, was stairing at himself in a full length mirror and turned to my friend as if to say, "just wait until you drift off to sleep again then you are MINE." then went back to looking at himself in the mirror. I about peed myself when he told me that story. Joe W.
  4. StageCad is the program I use the most. It takes some time to get used to it but I really like it a lot. Joe W.
  5. I swear by StageCAD. After a few e-mails with the writer of the program I have a good handle on it but am always learning something new. I really love just playing with the thing, it is just too much fun. Joe W.
  6. Dream.... My motto is: If you don't like my stages, here is the sign up sheet. A lot of the shooters in the club have been members for 15 to 20 years and they are burnt out on setting up stages and they don't mind the newer guys setting up. The one thing that kind of bothers me is that some of the shooters still insist on revolver neutral stages. I try to do it as often as I can but sometimes you just gotta say screw it for a local match and build it the way you want. So far, in the year and a half or so that I have been setting up I have only had a very small handful of people that didn't care for one of my stages, no so much hate it but just not care one way or another. Last year alone I set up 34 stages plus 4 classifiers and in the confines of an indoor range it gets harder and harder to come up with something original but I do what I can. Joe W.
  7. Neil Casper... If you are ever in the Kansas City area on a Wed night you will have to join us for a pin shoot. Joe W.
  8. AlamoShooter, yes it does. I have to say I really do enjoy setting up stages and with our club shooting indoors we have a very limited amount of space and angles to play with so it can be a chore at times. I have even submitted some stages for Area 3 in 2006 and hopefully one or two of them will be used. One of the things I enjoy doing on my stages is offer the same target from several ports or views and see just how many times the shooters will shoot the same target. It makes you think and remember what you have already shot, requiring you to have a plan and REMEMBER it lol Joe W.
  9. Check out the Christmas Shoot photos and video... Yes I am a sick and twisted little man and everyone loved that stage no matter how UN PC it was LOL Joe W.
  10. I have been setting up stages for about the last 2 years and for me I try and cover all the shooters. Usually I will set up stages that will challenge even the local grandmaster but at the same time be a fun course for a first time shooter. With a lot of IDPA shooters that shoot with our USPSA club I will sometime set up a "tactical" stage that is still fun for the rest of the shooters. For me, a good stage is one where everyone from GM and A shooters all the way through D shooters curse my name (with a smile) for that No Shoot they tagged at 5 feet and in the next breath thank me for making it fun. Another thing that helps make the stages fun and challenging is to ask the SHOOTERS what they like and work with that in mind. Joe W.
  11. Right now I am using StageCAD It has taken me a little time to get it figured out but it is a great program. When you are done with the design you can print out a pop list, list of targets needed, even "fly" through the stage as if you are shooting it. The designer of the program is working on an updated version that fixes the few bugs in the program so keep an eye out for that one soon as well. Joe W.
  12. My .45 ACP loads I use the most are: Berry's 185 HBRN 5.3 grains of Hodgdon HP-38 Berry's 185 HBRN 4.7 grains of Hodgdon Clays. With the HP-38 load I use a 9 pound spring and the gun feels like you are shooting a .22 pistol but I am using a comped barrel, not that it bleeds off much gas with this load. Joe W.
  13. I am not sure how you all are setting your tables but the club I shoot with has a setting for Minor where the pins are set about 3 feet from the front of the table. Major, anything 165 PF and higher is set near the front edge and .22 is set at the very rear of the table. Mid-West Pinblasters Joe W.
  14. I must have been in the twilight zone or something when I shot this one at Area 3, the first classifier I ever shot at the first big match I ever attended and I managed a hf of 8.3863 with a single stack open gun in .45 ACP. Hey the only center fire pistol I have is my Open gun I shoot in the local pin shooting club. lol I about had to change my drawers when I heard that Max Michel had a hf of 15.0685, it was about 118% at that time. I can't wait to shoot Area 3 in 2006. I guess I won't be able to shoot unclassified the next time like I did in 2005. lol First big match I ever shot and I took high unclassified Open.
  15. If theres a clock on, it IS a game and therefor the way I see it is that if you are shooting it you SHOULD "game it" to shoot it the best way you can.
  16. gixxerflier, drop me a PM with your e-mail and I will gladly forward on the info to you. Joe W.
  17. Way to go!! I was at Area 3, one of the photographers running around, and I have to say it was a fun and very challenging match. Hope to see you there next year, it should be even better than '05. Side note, I would love to hear what you thought of the match overall. We had a heck of a time getting everything all set up stage wise with the heat and rain the week before hand. Also, I have some of my photos from the match on the USPSA web site in their photo area. Joe W. Almost forgot, I was highest unclassified Open shooter even though I finished 65th out of 77 Open shooters. lol I had to run through the stages as rapidly as I could because I needed to shoot photos that day as well so I blew past some targets otherwise I would have finished about 10 places higher. Just so everyone can have a good laugh, I did it with a single stack open gun shooting .45 ACP. Hey it is my pin shooting open gun and it has made me get better at mag changes lol Usually I finish mid of the pack or a little higher at the local club shooting against several high ranking shooters including one Grand Master. Joe W.
  18. If you are still wanting some longshot data from Hodgdon let me know, I had them send me a copy of all their .38 super loads including longshot and such. I will gladly forward it on to anyone interested. Joe W.
  19. My Ruger 10/22 for bench rest shooting I built it myself and did all the internal work as well. Adams and Bennet fluted barrel with comp. Bell and Carlson stock. VQ extractor, Ultra Match hammer and sear, Match disconnector and trigger. Wolff spring kit. Simmons 6.5-20x50mm scope with Stoney Point Target Knobs Harris bipod with custom mount. Trigger parts were tweeked and tuned down to a very crisp 6 ounce trigger pull. This rifle will shoot 0.5500 to 0.7500 groups at 100 yards on a good day with the right ammo and no wind. I also have a rifle I built up for use at the local pin shooting club but I still need to get some photos of it to share. For those interested I do trigger work for others, feel free to contact me for more information.
  20. Hey all, sorry it took me so freakin long to post here again but things have been all kinds of crazy. A huge thanks go out to Manny, Scott and everyone else involved in Area 3, I hope we get it back here in KS next year. I know some of you may have already seen some of the photos I shot but here is a link the ones I posted on the USPSA web site. There is even a photo, although not so great, of the Range Master giving the Area Director his plaque and a hand shake for placing so well in his class. For those that weren't there you will get the joke when you see the photo. lol Included are photos of the prize tables (I am still in shock I got about $100 worth of stuff and I finished 65th out of 75 Open shooters) as well as overhead shots of the stages. Manny, I hope you got the CD of photos, feel free to use them for anything you can. Joe W. BTW, highest unclassified Open shooter from Area 3 in da house LOL I even got a plaque for it!!
  21. I love this powder. I have been loading my .45 with it for pins and I swear by it. I agree it is a really barky load but boy does it carry the pins!! Here is a photo of me shooting my pin gun in .45 ACP with a 185 JHP from Sierra and about 8.2 grains of Longshot. lol Here is a better shot of the gun itself.

    45 acp

I am shooting an open gun in .45 (insert laughing here) lol Berry's Plated 185 HBRN with Clays, 4.6 to 4.7 will get me major (165) but I am loading 4.9 to help work the comp a little bit. The large hollow base of the bullet really affects the pressures making them lower.
  23. I am looking forward to this one a lot, I will be there helping to set stages up . Going to be a lot of work but well worth it in the end.
  24. I remember that one. I saw it on an EARLY American Shooter back in the day when it was on TNN (before it was sold to MTV and became SpikeTV). I didn't remember who it was about but I DO remember watching them all shoot the mess out of that prop lol
