  1. I think it depends on how much time off - and how hard you've been pushing yourself. I've found that small breaks help - they let me break the drudgery of a routine, and then I start to look forward to things again (and this applies not just to shooting). I tend to push really hard when I'm doing something, I'm dry firing 1-1.5 hours daily at the moment, and if I don't take the break I risk burn out. Also, time off is when your body can really take the time to absorb all the things you've learned. I've noticed that with tons of practice I'm always tweaking something, so the time off is almost like time to reflect and think about all the stuff that I've figured out. Just because I took a break from it physically, doesn't mean I took the break mentally. It seems to always be on my mind!
  2. Didn't make it to the match this weekend, thanks to the rain and what felt like a knee strain during my run Friday. Did however get some good dry fire practice - and did something a little different this time. I focused on going slow, with my eyes closed with draws and reloads so I could really drive home what it feels like to get a good reload, and a good consistent draw. After doing this for about 15 minutes, when I started to bring it back up to speed I felt like the clumsiness was greatly reduced. I was alot more consistent, and the wheels didn't fall off even at par times where they were previously. I'm not sure if it was because I had been at it for a little bit, so it was easier, or if it's this new method. I'll find out in tomorrow's dry fire to see if these new gains are kept.
  3. Have you considered getting the Short reset disconnector from CGW? My Shadow trigger is like yours - there isnt a real break you can feel, it kind of slides over, so I put in the new disco which removed practically all of the pretravel, and then adjusted the overtravel screw. Now my SA travel is extremely small so I don't have to worry about setting the trigger to the break - if I touch it, and the trigger travels a few MM it's going to fire. It's also a drop in part - so for 40.00 it would fit your budget.
  4. The bassham book definitely changed the way I prepare for almost everything in my life - not just shooting. I think you'll love it!
  5. Wow that's amazing. How old was she when she started shooting? I've been wondering when I should start to teach him. He's only 5, but he loves to shoot the airsoft gun.
  6. I'm a newbie shooter (all shooting, not just USPSA) just hoping to get better. Been following the forum a few months and thought I'd do this to help my accountability and maybe pay forward a bit of the wisdom I've gained by reading people's diaries here (CHA-LEE I'm looking at you, and I hope you read this, your diary is awesome and inspiring!) Had a match yesterday and I've come to the realization that I'm a total hoser - I'm unclassified still, shooting times close to the Limited B shooters, but only picking up 70% of points on a normal basis. Going to work on visual patience and waiting for the sights to settle down. Strangely (at least to me) I do way better on steel - I almost always go 1 for 1, so it leads me to believe I have accuracy somewhere in me, but when shooting paper I allow myself to take C's and D's. Another match tomorrow, going tell myself to not just call my shot, but to call an A. Hope I don't overload the conscious mind.
  7. Soon you'll be like the rest of us, thinking about it 24/7, airgunning whenever no one is looking... Welcome to the club!
  8. +1 to the joy of pulling the trigger and having fun. I hope this never turns into something that I don't enjoy!! For the more experienced shooters - has the pressure of being watched, and wanting to perform for your peers gotten better, or worse as you've matured? I don't feel any pressure when I shoot, but since I'm new I don't have any expectations on how I should perform either.
  9. +1 Tactical Sport for sure... there's a LGS in Houston that has one in stock too for 1399.. Has everything you want http://www.fullarmorfirearms.com/houston/guns/1602/CZ-USA-CZ-75-TACTICAL
  10. Is the ability to get a 1.75# SA and running more than federal primers exclusive to the 75B? Is there something that prevents a Shadow from having the same setup?
  11. Are you logging your practice? If I see the same goal time week after week that's a pretty good sign that I need to push the par time down a bit.
  12. What happens when you try to push to achieve similar times in practice? Are you not able to do achieve the same results, and the wheels fall off? Sounds like you may just be underestimating yourself in practice...
  13. I've subscribed to the Steve Anderson method of accuracy and speed modes. There's a time when I do like you mention, and be sure I call every shot and get the A. Then there's the time when I go all out and see how fast I can go until the wheels fall off. There have been times I've surprised myself at how much faster I can really go, while still calling my shots, and without doing these speed tests I would have been slowing my progress.
  14. +1!! I'm still really new here, but the wealth of knowledge and the community is so great. One day I hope to have my 10th year here too!

Sweet tea, by the gallon please!
  16. Good luck, you're going to love it!!!
  17. Is it a smaller match? I don't think you normally use more than 150. If you can bring more, it probably wouldnt hurt though. I have seen people run out of ammo a few times, and everytime there's someone willing to either sell/give them some to help them finish the day out. Everyone is always friendly!
  18. I thought the smallest caliber is 9mm for limited major in USPSA? Just have to make the power factor... http://www.uspsa.org/rules/14th_Ed_US_html/14th_Ed_US_Rules.11.html#pgfId=999026 Since you're already setting up your 9mm open gun, if I were you I'd definitely get the 9mm limited gun and keep things simpler. Same Mags, Same reload setup, same components, I'd rather save the headache.
  19. I have an m&p pro, and with the small backstrap, the CZ Sp-01 shadow, with the alum grips is thinner. I have small-ish hands though, so this makes reaching the mag release button alot easier for me.
  20. I had similar ejection problems - solved with a cleaning of the extractor itself, similar to what happened in this post: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=112534&p=1278088 The extractor had some gunk in it and it was having problems grabbing the brass.
  21. Slight acclimation period may be a bit of an understatement - I think my hands were sore for a week, but it's definitely worth it, the gun sticks like crazy. If you're going through all the work to put the parts in, you definitely need to polish the trigger bar and get things really smoothed out. Stuart posted some great links on how to do that a while back: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=82810
  22. I agree, it's so much better than the previous issues. Well done!
  23. I just installed the CGW disconnector and it also needed some fitting - taking a bit off the wing fixed it right up. Can't beat it at 43 shipped!
  24. Only way I finally got my weak hand into the action was to make dryfire so hard I couldn't get by without it. Do you mean you focused on always squeezing more with your weak hand during drills, or changing your drills so they would be difficult to do without having your weakhand putting in more effort?
