  1. A good start on the round count would be 200 pistol, 120 shotgun, 10 slugs and 200 rifle...our stage design is unique, we don't tell shooters to stand here and shot this target with this firearm...our flavor of stage design gives you options as to which firearm you select to use. Having said that you wont get a target for target round count, we allow our competitors to play to their strength. It seems to work, in 2013 we held 18 "monthly" matches that averaged 80 plus competitors at each match and one major match last year with little to no concern for stage design...this is not a one off or one and done deal. last week we hand 60 folks..hardcore 3 gunner brave the rain and cold to get their Tarheel3gun fix...just saying If you want to see what you might run into go to YouTube and type in Tarheel 3 gun...you will see the flavor we have branded...as for the Larues we are fitting them with new 10, 8 and 6 inch plates. So far they all fall with a 9mm at 75 yards, so i am confident a rifle will make them drop without issue. See our goals is to keep this match fresh and we listen and cater to our participates. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwOc6AVbfGA There is what I read.
  2. As I recall they dont post stages. But I could be getting confused with another match! I think I read a round count somewhere as I have already packed my ammo for this match. I always bring plenty extra here is my load out for this match 300 pistol, 300 rifle, 200 shot, and 20 slugs. I am positive that will be enough but I understand needing a more accurate count if shipping your ammo.
  3. Thanks for your help on solidifying my decision to change nothing!
  4. I heard the pop like a .22lr not just a primer. You are right it was a poor decision but luckily the bullet left the barrel. My money maker is long range. I can keep up with speed but my best stages have always been long range. I dont necessarily go one for one but I hit them quick and in a hurry. Usually for 5 targets at 300 yards 6-8 shots. Yesterday in a match I hit 11 targets 200-300 yards in 41 seconds from 4 positions 3 targets standing supported, 3 kneeling, 3 sitting, run 15 yards and shoot 2 from prone. 20 shots. Based on the video I just watched and just having the gut feeling of knowing not to change anything before a major I will leave it alone. I appreciate this persons video but his baseline was 2+MOA at 100 with adjustment closed he went to 5+MOA!!!! People can shoot 2moa groups at 500. I will stick with my 3/4 moa and hit more frequently! My background is 3 years of benchrest and 1000 F class style shooting before I ever played 3 gun so accuracy of my equipment is paramount.
  5. Will adjusting my gas block to cycle less gas create a touch more velocity out of my 18 inch rifle length barrel? I could just adjust it chrono and find out but I hit dead on at 200-500 right now sub MOA and I dont think messing with it 12 days before 3 major matches back to back makes any sense. I looked at the JBMballistics.com and it appears 30FPS with 77SMK makes 2.5 inch difference at 500 yards. I cannot imagine it making more than a 10FPS difference but I have never tested this. Has anyone here? Background: I was shooting 55FMJ @2300 FPS it was working great until I hit 40 degrees at 3 Gun Nation SE regionals and had 3 failure to cycle with it. Now I have found the lot of 2000 I loaded are not consistent with the powder charge and have decided to shoot PMC Bronze but I am way over gassed shoot with PMC. I shot one of my handloads in a match today and it sounded like a .22lr I prayed as I racked the chamber and broke another shot. Luckily the bullet made it out! I have loaded over 50,000 rounds and the past month I have encountered my first squib with my pistol and today was my first rifle "squib like" round.
  6. Rick are you guys going to the STI multigun match? I just got in the blessing from my wife and will be there!
  7. That 1/4 second it takes to put on thumb safety is still a huge advantage over a modern polymer gun. Us 1911 guys have better triggers for every shot we take. I have seen some nice M&P triggers but they weren't 2lbs with virtually no take up like my STI!
  8. A rubber oil filter wrench, Heat gun or lightly torch it the torch might discolor the handgaurd
  9. Got the ok to go to this match from the wife! Airfare, rental car, match fees paid! This will be three major matches 3 weeks in a row TFD3G, Tarheel, STI multi gun!
  10. What he said. But I would Save your money on the video and buy more bullets and practice. Nothing is better than good practice!
  11. There is http://3gunnation.com/club_series/club_directory I emailed 3GN about the other 5 or so additional local 3 gun matches that take place monthly in Florida and they never added them! So if you want to shoot 3 gun in FL let me know i can tell you where and when! They are only showing 3GN affiliated clubs not "Outlaw" local matches.
  12. As I recall it is more of a muesem but they have lots of class 3 stuff
  13. I got hammered on a classifer the other day. I could have easily used my belt and had the same time but I didnt read the stage description and turned a 6.2 into a 16.2!!!! I read on one of the stage descriptions all shotgun reloads must come from belt... What about chest rig guys! I will wear the chest rig around my waist and call it a belt if I must!
  14. If they run in your gun then they will save you money over the PMC or other more expensive ammunition. Even if you shot 5000 of them and needed to replace a barrel it would still save money over buying PMC or federal ammunition. Reloading is always cheaper but it also comes with a heavy opportunity cost. I would run tula but I am not happy with it's lack of reliabilty or accuracy. For local matches and up close go for it if it works in your gun! With that being said I reload everything I shoot except shotgun shells.
  15. 69SMK! Buy 100 of them and see if they group tightly if they dont try something lighter. I have seen 69's stabilize in similar barrel specs.
  16. Being from Florida and shooting last weekend in SC I learned about temperature drops and bolts that barely cycle in warm weather! Good thing I had lots of 77smk long range stuff that still cycled to complete the match with! Too bad it took a stage to figure it out! I highly recommend adjusting your gas and ammunition to 40 degree weather!!!! EDIT: To answer the quesiton I like the JP it has been great but I am sure others also work well! Jessie how much does the BoomerFab complete bcg weigh?
  17. Correct me if I am wrong Benny Hill but I watched him a couple years ago shoot a .22 carbine at about 10, 120 yard targets taking one shot at each and moving on. It only made sense because you couldnt even hear the hits it was so windy. His time ended up being a stage win!!!! People were pissed but he gamed it and I watched with a big smile! I think making the penalty for a miss high enough that you are forced to shoot it makes sense. Such as 15+ seconds. If it is a nasty position and only one target then make it 30+!!!!
  18. I was there last year and I didnt pay any additional fee. No golf carts needed!
  19. I would suspect you divide your time into the fastest time and there is your percentage but I dont know! Kieth Garcia was on fire based on his overall time. I think this will be a tough match to grab lots of semi pro points from.
  20. If I had buckets and a clean table in my gun room I would use those instead of the bed...
  21. I place all three weapons on my bed empty on safe bolt forward. I draw the pistol from holster dry fire as fast as possible 7 targets. Ditch the safe pistol on the bed essentially throwing it then I grab the shotgun dry fire and place on safe and ditch and do the same with rifle. Also, switch which weapon you use first throw in a reload to the mix. I think this is good practice. I usually go through 21 targets and 3 weapons transitions in 12 seconds. I really think it helps! If nothing else it is definitely weapons manipulation..
  22. This match is worth coming to from near and far...! Last year left such an impression that I hope they can live up to it again! Based on the stage descriptions it looks like they will!
  23. I thought the 2 day format was great. The RO's and match director people made a great effort to push us through and were very flexible and open minded in doing so. I thought the stages were very fun. I personally prefer more long range and small far pistol targets to make things even more challenging. The prize table was great and diseminated very well throughout the ranks. Thank you guys for your hard work! I had a blast! Jeremy
  24. Every persons situation is different. I signed up under certain circumstances. Changing the match to 441 means I cannot complete the match.
