Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. I know you have taken the flash hider off to clean the crown but did you shoot it without a flash hider. And, is it a standard A2 flash hider or some comp/break. I had a gun with a name brand comp that was shooting 2"+ at 100, I was sure it was the barrel/build. In the process of finding the problem, shot it with no comp and it was sub 1 MOA.
  2. Thank you to all that have commented. I'm going to try a couple of things. 1. I'm going to get a couple of boxes of the low recoil slugs discussed and test them for function and accuracy. 2. I'm going to get a limbsaver or similar pad and adapt it for my stock (I have an AR collapsable stock I'm also going to try one other thing.. just for the hell of it.. I'm shooting a Saiga 12. I have an AR buffer tube for a stock adapter. The tube is empty and when installed is sealed at both ends. I'm thinking of putting lead shot in the empty tube. I'm curious if it will act similar to the mercury recoil reducers in that the loose shot will shift under recoil to dampen the shock of recoil. It will at minimum increase the overall weight of the gun which should reduce recoil and it will bring some weight to the back to better balance the barrel heavy gun. One friend theorizes the sound of the shot shifting in the aluminim tube will eventually drive me insane..
  3. I ran out to the range today to sight in my Saiga 12 on which I'd installed a Pride Fowler dot. Last week I'd picked up a few (10rd) boxes of Peters (Remington) 7/8oz high velocity (1800fps) slugs. Lucky for me the sight was already 'on paper' at 50yds. But OUCH! those slugs kicked! And I'm not a wuss.. I'm a BIG guy and I have significant LARD behind my stock (LARD = Large Adjustable Recoil Dampner) as a result of the FAT that I have developed over the years of shooting (FAT = Firepower Accomodation Technique). I already had the gas system on the more restrictive setting. Two Questions: 1.) What low recoil / managed recoil / tactical slug - does everyone have good experience with?? 2.) Anyone want to buy (cheap) the other 4 or so boxes of this mule kicking slug ammo??
  4. What about 170mm 9mm/38s SV tubes or mags? Any idea where to find some?? While I have some issues with STI mags in my Para, the SV seem to work.. if I can find them
  5. I just got 6 with the window... extra neat.. I got mine from Brownells but they sold out pretty quick. Might be worthwhile getting on the back order list as their dealer price is pretty good..
  6. I had one and decided to send it back. The rails, being below the top rail were not on the right sight plane for a red dot. might be a decent place for a laser or light but not a red dot
  7. The replacement program required you notify MagPul by June 1. Check magpul.com under News. I sent some in for replacement. I didn't have a specific problem but had not done extensive testing on all ammo or rifles I have. Of course.. now the windowed mags are available.
  8. I assume you already considered and rejected the idea of using the Arredondo rib mount for the JP/Doctor? It wouldn't be as low but it would save you from hacking the rib.
  9. It is a 30mm tube and the eye piece is 42mm. I'm using high rings as I'm putting it on a flat top without a riser.
  10. I haven't mounted it on the AR yet, I may grab a set of Arms locally and mount it today. I was originally going to get some Burris Tactical rings with the picatinny top rail but now I'm not sure I need to mount my Jpoint on top.
  11. Well they have changed the design somewhat. I just got this in from Midway, they are already out again I believe. I paid $229 or $239 I think.. As you can see from the photos, the illumination adjustment is on the side of the scope now. The scope is solid and heavy.. 17.2 oz by my scale. It seems to have about 3.5" of eye relief. It appears to be a true 1x, at first I thought it wasn't but I then realized I needed to adjust the diopter. The turrets are funky, I should have gotten a pic (and I will once this is mounted on my gun). Remove the caps and they are easy to finger turn but I'm not sure how you track the number of clicks... not a big deal to me as this is not a scope I'm going to 'dial in' for ranged shots. My picture skills suck.. these were taken in good light but not midday bright light. In bright light the illumination does wash out a bit. The dot is fast to pickup and the center dot is fine enough for precision shots. The box was ok with a velour bag for the scope but there was no scope specific information about the recticle sizes, fov or other details.. it almost seems the paperwork hasn't caught up the the revised scope. I will mount it up and try and shoot it this weekend. BTW - In the shot with the illuminated recticle there is a bit of blur to the circle & dot, that is due to my camera/scope mount (hand) moving.. the dot itself is a crisp round line.
  12. If your rangefinder is having problems 'bouncing' off a target, wait for Scott to walk out with the GPS and then bounce the laser off him for an accurate reading... Sorry.. couldn't resist. Here is what I want.. someone must already have built it, the military or someone. And yes, I know about the scopes that are also rangefinders. I want a picatinny mounted range finder for my forearm that can zeroed for my point of aim and has a remote (wired or wireless) display that adheres to the top of my scope. This would allow anyone to retrofit their scope with a rangefinder.. The electronics exist, it is a matter of packaging them in the right way. Acquire target, squeze rangerfinder button, confirm distance in display, jerk trigger!
  13. Well.. you must have had some dry weather by now... I see that Midway finally has a few in stock (4 to be exact). I also know (from reading Optics Talk at swfa.com) that Millet has made some changes to the scope but I'm not sure exactly what. Any more thoughts on whether it is a good or bad thang?? Any recticle pictures??
  14. At the time I ordered the gun the poly's were in short supply and Tony was afraid it would hold up delivery of my gun. Later when poly announced they had them ready, I just ordered one myself. The one I got has the standard poly 'vents' and it doesnt' have a bead on it so all I had to do was thread it on. I agree it works well, I was a skeptic but after shooting sporting clays with my Saiga and just having to twist to get the choke I wanted, I'm happy. It came with a blue finish so I will likely bead blast it and paint it black then locktite it into place. If Tony has them then by all means have him install it..
  15. I'm curious if anyone is using the Trijicon as well.. the only thing I was concerned about was hold over at distance as the triangle might obscure the plates. I had a three post recticle on a 1.5 to 6 Burris that suffered from that problem, when you held over it blocked the plate. I realize the Trijicon has an 'open' post so it might be you just put the triangle on top of the plates at distance. It would have been sweet if Trijicon put some ranging cross marks on that post, somewhat like a Burris Ballistic Plex.
