  1. Pat, totally agree. I can't even imagine being in that position. No faulting him. The post was to point out that it was a possibility that a person with a CCW just saved many lives.
  2. I was watching the local news today. (I'm about 15 minutes from the Oregon mall shooting.) They were interviewing a guy that was in the mall with a concealed permit, as the shooter's gun jammed, he drew his gun and targeted him. He didn't shoot, but might have saved many many more people from dying. Here's the story: http://www.kgw.com/n...-183593571.html During the TV interview, he seemed like he engaged the shooter more than the article online implies...
  3. “Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
  4. Uh, hi. Uh, my name is Greg, and uh... I like to party.
  5. Yeah, I live 15 minutes from the most recent mall shooting in Clackamas, Oregon. So I'm a little fired up right now. Idiots like this are ruining things for responsible gun owners. Shooting people won't make your problems go away and it isn't a way to express your poor little hurt feelings. Society has been declining over the years and the whole "Everyone gets a ribbon for participating" just makes it easier for people to whine about their problems and do stupid crap like this. Progressives...sigh... you call this progress? No, you DON'T have to have the same traditional values I do, but you better have good morals to back it up. There are people without arms and legs, with severe mental handicaps, people that live in cardboard boxes and you don't see them shooting people in malls or in schools. Your problems aren't that bad. Someone always has it worse than you. Put your big boy pants on and get over it. Find a real way to take out your frustrations with the world. Go talk to someone, take up MMA... anything. Killing people won't make things better, it won't make you feel better and it doesn't make you look like anything other than a coward. I'm not much of a violent person, Heck, I put spiders outside unless they're big and scary. (Then I'm sorry, but you gotta get squished.) But we need a way to deter people from doing the bad things in life. Public torture? Public hangings? No...that would be "mean" to those people that shoot up malls. I know violence doesn't solve violence...but seriously, something needs to be done. If I were more of a conspiracy theorist, and I wanted to get rid of guns in my country, I would consider sending people out around the country to shoot people, showing the public that "assault rifles" need to go. But that's silly talk... and I'm not quite there yet... Arrrrgghh...people suck. Merry Christmas indeed...
  6. I hate to re-direct the subject line, but it's sort of on this topic of wanting/needing more magnification. Some of the people helping me get into 3 gun suggested I go with a 4-12 scope and use back-up irons for the close stuff. With my ego getting in the way I decided to go with the Leupold VX-6 1-6. Well, being a new shooter, I went to sight it in and even at 6x, the target at 100m looked really far away... All of the sudden, their point was made. That target would look a lot better if I had 12x magnification. On the opposite side of the coin, another great shooter gave me advice and said get a true 1x so you aren't "prairie doggin it" (poppin your head up over the scope to check the target because you're too zoomed in.) So, just like the guy that's looking for the 1-6, is a 4-12 a bad strategy for a new guy? Or, do you stick with your 1-4 or 1-6 and just get better at shooting?
  7. Yeah, maybe in retrospec you should have helped her out, but it doesn't mean those guys aren't A-holes, and it's not your fault they are A-holes. I would seriously put them on blast on every forum and in every possible way. Target tried to screw me over and I blasted them all over their facebook page and MAGICALLY they responded instantly with an apology. I still don't shop at Target, but it got an immediate response. Normally, I don't complain about crap, I put up with it and move on, but they truly tried to screw me. People like that shouldn't be in business. How nice and loving was it for a grandmother to buy something to make her grandson happy and they have to be a bunch of D-bags about it. Seriously, don't feel bad about letting them know. The owner of the business should know he has horrible employees working for him. The owner hopefully didn't start his business to take advantage of people. Hopefully he wanted to serve his community and offer good products. If these guys worked for me, I'd want to know so I could fix the problems in my business. Crap like this is why new shows like mystery diner and restaurant steakout are starting to pop up. The gun world has a hard enough time looking like the good guys without people like this in the world.
  8. Swedge, I envy you. I'm not that...I don't know the word. Brave? I feel like I have to have all my ducks in a row before I sign up for a match. (Which I know is the wrong approach, I shouuld just be going out to have fun at my skill level.) I just like that feeling of knowing I'm set. I just don't really know what "set" is. (Hence the thread.) I never would have ever thought to bring extra gun parts. Makes me wonder what else I haven't thought of...
  9. Trying to get into 3-Gun. Taking the slow route. (Meaning I get to buy things as the wife lets me.) All I have so far is a handgun and a rifle. I know which shotty I want but I feel like there's SO much more to get. You COULD get airsoft guns to practice, .22lr conversions tp save ammo costs, Spotting Scopes, Chronographs, Speed Belts/Holster systems, Extra Magazines, Ways to tote around all your stuff, Tools for gunsmithing, Books, DVDs, Gun club memberships, steel targets, extra parts for guns etc. So, what's on your list? I don't care if your essentials list, or your dream list. Basically I just need to know what to get. If it's prioritized, even better. I thought this would be a fun way to share how people prepare for matches. Heck some people even use strollers to lug their stuff around. Someone needs to make a check list. I'll be googling that as soon as I press send... So, what's on YOUR list?
  10. CO-EXPRS - I always like your comments, even when they dig at me. Being such a new shooter. I don't know Colt's reputation. I DO know that the gun in the video is different now. The parts in my gun are different and I don't think my gun is the final product. Different brake, handguard and BCG from the little I know. I'm hoping that means they've been researching and refining. I did notice in the video the recoil to the right. I haven't noticed that in mine, but 1. I've only shot 60 rounds through it. 2. It was on a rest and 3. What do I know with my little experience. It DOES weigh 13lbs. That's a ton from what I understand. But it's not unmanagable. (we'll see what happens when I get good enough to actually run around and shoot with it.) But you comments are awesome and well absorbed. Thank you.
  11. Benny. I wish! 13 lbs with optics. So I'm just gonna work out like a mad man. (Can a person say a JP trigger is better than a Geissele? AR Gold? Timney? Kind of my point of the whole thread. Trying to learn.) Graham. Yes I'm sure you could take me with a bolt gun. I'm a noob shooter... so far 60 rounds through an AR platform. Pretty much no other rifle experience. But you'd have no use for it? Uhhh....Zombies. Duh! Thanks everyone else! Great input. How about more technical stuff or info about manufacturing? Like what makes a JP great and worth so much? (besides the fact they look sweet!) Or are they all the same and you're just paying for a name? Can a person do a "Good, Better, Best" with AR brands? If you can, how if they're all using similar quality parts? If we were to take the top 3 triggers, the top 3 barrels, top 3 brakes, top 3 BCGs etc... and randomly took one from each and made 3 random ARs not having any of the same parts, would they all be equal guns? OR...is there something more? Is it HOW they're put together by a manufacturer? Is it WHICH parts you group together? If 3 people all built ARs with Magpul furniture, JP triggers, Criterion barrels and say...oh who knows, a DPSM BCG. Would the 3 guns be comparable? Or would the other little parts matter? (like the gas system, the handguard, the lower etc.) Is there a priority to which pieces or a rifle are most important? Lots of questions I know... But this is the knowledge I'm trying to gain. (Until I find another topic.) I like hearing everyone's perspective.
  12. Ok Ok, I admit, since joining the forum a little while back, I've been sharing my excitement over my new Colt .308. (Maybe/probably OVERsharing my excitement.) It's my first AR style rifle of any kind and well, it's just really cool to have such a cool blaster! Some people have complimented it, others have said things like, "The Colt will probably suck, that's what they do. Suck." There will always be flamers like this. It's cool. I also understand I have a rifle that's probably a bit over-priced. (Really how much does a name cost?) But here's the question from the super new guy... Me. Really, What's the difference If all of these high end rifles? If I said I had a rifle with Magpul furniture, and Geissele trigger, full-length gas system, a high-quality barrel, a great muzzle break and a good BCG...Which gun am I describing? Kind of all of them right? Can you really say that a rifle with Magpul Furniture is better or worse than VLTOR furniture? Is a JP handguard really than much better or worse than a Samson handguard? I've read threads on barrels, triggers, muzzle breaks etc and there seem to be a handful of fantastic choices. I assume while none of the manufacturers can admit who's making their NDA stuff (like barrels, receivers, gas systems etc.) it's all fairly high end if that manufacturer wants to put out a high-end product. So who's the best? Can you really say Colt sucks? Can you say DPMS is better than Armalite? For that matter, how can I say Colts rock? Is the Colt Pro better than the Stag 3G or the DPMS 3G1 or the JP? Heck, I don't know. That's why I'm asking you. They all seem to have the same high-level parts. So, as the new guy...the REALLY new guy...I ask you this: What am I missing? If everyone is using a great trigger, barrel, muzzle break, BCG, what's left? Is the gas system, the stripped lower or the receiver what truly makes a great rifle? Is it the attention to detail in the assembly process? the quality control? Is it the combination of those parts that make a rifle great? Yeah, I might share my excitement over my Colt, but you'll never hear me talk crap about other rifles because 1. I've never shot anything but my rifle and 2. I'm really wondering if any rifle is that much better or worse than another. Seems to me a lot of these companies are piecing together great rifles out of great parts made by companies that specialize in making those great parts. I humbly await all of your expert thoughts and comments. I've learned a lot in the last couple of weeks and I can't wait to learn more from all of you. So really, what's the difference in AR's?
  13. What!?!? Me excited about my rifle? No... Hey, gotta represent. They asked for options and opinions. Just throwing in the little bit of knowledge I have. Trying to contribute what I have until I get to your level... Which may take a life-time... I'm such a noob. but if someone asked about AR triggers and people said AR Gold and Geissele, wouldn't you throw in Timney? But yeah, I MAY be a bit overly jacked about my first rifle... My bad. Team Noob
  14. Colt CR Pro .308. Due out this Jan. Move over Bacon... (Mmmm... Bacon) love mine. It's so beast!
  15. Finally got to shoot it and sight it in today! I LOVE IT! Such a beastly gun! Smooth shooter, mild recoil. LOVE IT! Now, I just need about 10,000 rounds of .308 without having to sell a kidney...
  16. Ok, I totally feel you on this one! I'm a noob too, but I've done a lot of research and asked a lot of people. I feel moderately knowledgable about this. Get a true 1x if you can, fire or red dot is cool and effective too. + 1 on all of those. I would also add the Leupold VX-6 1-6 Multigun or the VX-R Patrol 1.25-4. (Both come with cool reticles and a firedot.) I'm using the VX-6 but wanna switch it out for the VX-6 Multigun if I can. Don't skimp on glass!
  17. Hey everyone! Just wanted to say hi! Totally new to shooting, trying to slow get myself into 3 gun. (When my wife lets me buy my Versa Max I will be set!) I really enjoy reading all the forums. 3 gun guys seem to be totally down to Earth and helpful. I can't wait to not be a noob and can contribute advice! G
  18. .223 just to shoot other divisions? Or just because they be AWESOME!?!?!?
  19. Hey guys. Starter to 3 gun and wanted some advice. I have a Colt CR Pro .308 and a Glock 22 (.40 cal) Wanting to purchase a Versa Max and go Heavy Optics Div. I realize having a .40 cal keeps me from some (maybe most) competitions, but I figure I can start with what I have and build up to better tools as I go. Question is, as the title asks: Can a Glock .22 be competitive as a new shooter? Can I upgrade parts and still be heavy optic? Or is a Glock 22 gonna get me schooled? (to be honest, my skills will probably get me schooled in the beginning.) I'll probably just go out and have fun in the beginning. Anyone shoot a Glock 22 competitively? I don't see many forum topics with Glock 22 as a focus. I bought it years ago as a defense gun. Will it work for now? What things am I failing to consider? Am I over-thinking it? Thanks in advance for the advice.
  20. Which new Colt .308? The convertible Colt 901 modular carbine .308 to .223? Yeah, I don't have that... So that's a no then. Figured. But it's awesome I'm not the only one up this late!
  21. This may possibly be the shortest thread ever. Does a .22 conversion kit even exist for an AR .308? I haven't found anything online. Hoping one of you Guru's have some voodoo magic and know of one.
  22. Where on EARTH do y'all find the money to shoot this much??? Other than .22 ammo, It's so expensive!! You guys selling kids or body parts you don't need?
  23. That wouldn't be information that I know. I know Dave Wilcox from Warne/Bold Ideas, but don't work for them. (Wife does) I know a lot of the ins-n-out of this gun as well as the other Colt CR guns, but not much more than what you could research. (At least no more that I'm allowed to share with other people.) I have a guess what it might run since all their stuff is high quality PLUS the Colt name, but it's certainly not for me to say. I'll leave that to the people that make the gun. But if you google colt competition rifle and go to the site, you can see the 3 other guns they've made. (The CRP-18 Expert and Pro as well as the new M2012 for what I'm assuming would be precision rifle.) My GUESS...and only a guess (no insider info here, I promise.) Would be somewhere in the JP Rifle range. Maybe a hair less. Then again, I really have ZERO information on the price of the gun. I guess we will find out soon! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
