  1. Have a fun, "almost anything goes" kind of match coming up and, just for fun, I was wondering if you'd actually notice any difference throwing a Carver comp on my .40 with stock ammo? If not, what simple things would need to be changed to make it remotely worth adding a comp? Admittedly, I know relatively nothing about pistol comps or open pistols... But if it would reduce recoil, why not? Thanks in advance! G
  2. Yes, if i were any more intimate with Mr. Kelley's article it would be illegal in some states. I passed that along to my dad along with my ramblings. Just curious if anyone has had any experience with it. I will check out TTAG article. Thanks! Anyone else?
  3. So... my dad, a new shooter, purchased an M&P 15T and he's a tinkerer. So he's starting with the break. He did a "TON of research" (except ask his son) and he was thinking about this comp. http://www.vg6precision.com/index.php?id_product=18&controller=product Well, I know what comps I like and can easily regurgitate the top comps for getting rid of recoil and muzzle flip...but this one isn't on too many lists. Has anyone had experiences, good or bad with this? I did give him my top 7 list of go to comps in various price ranges but he did get me wondering if this performs well. It's pretty interesting looking, especially in stainless. (Cool looking is a relatively high factor for him) I won't be giving up my Carbon Arms Gas Hog any time soon, but he wants something different than his son. (Sigh) If this is decent, maybe my dad can grab this. So... what say you?
  4. This is more directed at choosing the correct height vs features. I would either gonwith a Harris swivel or an Atlas. But how do I know which height to get? 6-9 or 9-12 for Harris... and do I buy the 50.00 extensions on the Atlas? Total noob precision shooter. I'm more interested in the knowledge behind the purchase than the purchase. Is there a way to "check the fit" to know which one to get? Does it depend on shooting situations? Thanks in advance for your knowledge.
  5. I have a Glock 22. Zev trigger. Considering getting a 17 or 17L slide/upper. Will it work? If yes, why does Zev sell triggers by the model? Wouldn't it be by the frame size? If it isn't as easy as swapping uppers, what things do I meed to know to make it happen?
  6. IMO the Seekins is the sexiest lower on the planet. The upper is nice as well. If you want an aggressive magwell, Lancer has three different flared choices on their lower.
  7. Totally new to suppressors. I want to put one on my rifle for some long-range shooting. 20 inch barrel, full size BCG, adjustable gas. 1. What basic concepts do I need to understand before slapping a suppressor on a semi-auto rifle? (Over-gassing, poi change etc.) 2. Should I change anything with the buffer or BCG etc.? 3. What are some of the better suppressors for .308? (And what features make one better than another?) I know this can be an involved topic/thread. Thanks in advance for your help and education.
  8. I don't know what to tell you... it was his first time touching the gun. He doesn't shoot competitively. He's a hunter. Maybe the XR-795i electromagnetic stabilizing device that lets the rifle has zero movement was malfunctioning. I will keep working on it and testing it. But for now, I like it. It ran like a sewing machine the first night at the Crimson Trace Midnight 3-gun match. So far everyone that's touched it has immediately said how soft and stable it is without being overly concussive. Just trying to put up a video for people to see the break in action. Other upper parts are JP. LLMOS BCG, JP silent capture spring buffer. And now I'm gonna go get more than 3 hours of sleep so I'm not so sarcastic.
  9. I know some people have been asking about the Gas Hog since it shipped. I almost went with the SJC Titan for my build. Really glad I waited for Mark's comp. She's soft, flat and stays on target. (As the Titan would have been.) But the comp is also light, not terribly loud or concussive and really unique and cool looking. I can't wait to give her her first run at the Crimson Trace Midnight 3-Gun match tonight! Here's a quick video of a buddy of mine from Warne Scope Mounts giving it a try. He seemed to like it!
  10. Last year every stage gun I shot was completely dialed in. Every miss I saw was usually due to rushing or poor shooting. I watched a guy zero a stage gun before our first stage last year. The guy was meticulous. Max distance is 250 right? I wouldn't stress about it. If you don't feel good about it, use your rifle. Gonna be a blast! Stages look quick and fun! Nice work Chuck!
  11. Anyone know the technical/Remington parts names for: "Lifter Spring" ~TonyH and "Smaller, inner shell release spring?" ~Dhill
  12. A thing of beauty! Can't wait to shoot this stick this weekend!
  13. USPS Tracking says mine was, as of this morning, being process in my hometown. You have no idea how excited I am to get this on my rifle! Can't wait to add to my Carbon Arms collection!
  14. Congrats! That's awesome! Sounds like I need to get my butt down to Albany. I'm always looking for matches on Saturdays.
  15. Harmonics are a fickle mistress. I have a Colt pro in .308. Regular hornady tap ammo shot great, used some supermatch that was hotter, had crazy 4 inch groupings. Tried a few different ammos and it's currently a 1/2 moa gun. Knowing a little insider info on the Colt competition guns, I can tell you the barrel they use is more than solid. Find your load and you'll be great. It's 3 gun. Sub moa is more than enough. 55gr hornady steel match is affordable and used by many. Happy shooting!
  16. Either Remington gun club or federal target loads. They're both around the same price. When I'm feeling fancy I do Winchester AAs and some higher velocity stuff for spinners. No prairie storm or anything like that.
  17. Shoot with friends... another vote for the good buddy system.
  18. I actually think I do. Brought home the magazine from my wife's work and I think that's the issue I brought home. PM me and I will check in the morning and we can figure out how to get you the info you want.
  19. Yeah, just text my wife from work (I work nights) she said call Warne. They will definitely want to know. Talk to Randy or Justyn (justin) 1-800-683-5590
  20. Hey Pat, have you tried calling Warne? I forwarded the thread to some people there but you might want to call them. 1. Maybe they can help. 2. if something is up, they'll want to know and investigate. You've been such a fan of Warne. I would hate to see you spend money if you didn't have to.
  21. Two very comparable guns. If you tinker with loads a lot, Colt's gas system is so so nice and easy to use/change for different loads. If it came with the higher end trigger, this would be a no brainer. So it's a matter of switching the comp on the stag (zero dollars for you if you have the cooley JP comp) or switching the trigger on the Colt. Colt's comp is also very nice. Also, a sub-moa guarantee on the Colt is a plus. Anyway, food for thought. I don't envy your decision.
  22. Last summer I watched John Bagakis smoke our squad on pretty much all 9 stages at the NW Multigun Challenge. 200+ yard shots on almost every stage. Wasn't until day 2 that I realized he was shooting with irons. Yeah, with the right skill set, just about anything will work.
