  1. Smith Aegis This one is a pair of cheap, ANSI Z87.1 glasses Side by side Smith provided scale *take it for what it is worth, they are the only ones I have seen post something
  2. Depends on the type. If the extension is a nordic or similar in that can be opened up at the top, then 12-14" past. If it is of the Choat/ one piece variety, you take the length of the extension + 12".
  3. Yes, they both allow you to set the sensitivity of the mic, so you can turn it way up for dry fire. Only issue I've found is it can have a hard time telling the difference between dropping the hammer and racking the slide. Old eves... I'd say the PRO with the color screen might be a little easier indoors in low light. The numbers are smaller on the Standard one since the screen is just a B&W LCD.
  4. This^ I have one too, I just use the little tab on a AR front sight tool. It fits in the slot (I'm sure it was designed that way) and you rotate the numbered ring independent of the turret.
  5. I ended up with the CED7000PRO. I really like it... It is tiny compared to the others, plenty loud, packed full of options. What I like is that it has two modes... You can keep it simple for local matches so you don't overwhelm whoever might be using it. It gives basic Par and delay times. But then you can go into pro mode, and really has a ton of functions like a match computer and some really cool training tools. http://www.cedhk.com/shop/products/CED7000PRO-Shot-Timer.html Now if you don't need all that jazz, for about 70 bucks less is the CED7000 which is also awesome! http://www.cedhk.com/shop/products/CED7000-Shot%252dActivated-Timer.html
  6. Did you happen to take pics? I'd love to see how your work turned out!
  7. I really like to carry a spare shot timer and batteries ... at my local matches I'd say someones goes down at some point almost every month and mine almost always gets used. I really like aleve or any other anti-inflammatory... after the matches I tend to be a little tight and that seems to make for easier mornings the next day. KNEE PADS are so key, I know it has been in here a bunch of times, but I can't reiterate how clutch they can be. and as with most things one is none and two is one...
  8. Again, I cant recommend the Smith Aegis anymore. I know you dont want inserts, but it works with the Smith Rx system and that rocks. I wore Oakley MFrames when I was deployed, on my last tour I took 2 pairs Smiths, the side protection in unmatched in my opinion. Ill take a couple pictures tomorrow so you can get a better idea at the quality and protection levels you get with these things, granted they are kinda ugly, unless you are into the whole wraparound thing. Now if you want to make compromises on side protection, Smith also has some straight up prescription safety/shooting glasses in their "Elite Tactical" series.
  9. Use the minis for anything that is on a tek loc now (accessories), holsters are really all you need the large ones for.
  10. i don't want anyone to take this the wrong way, but in retrospect i think we all may want to be careful when making any public references to their efforts at mastering Rob's "one-handed cock" or describing any physical discomfort which may have resulted from those actions... I just spit my water I was drinking out my nose... thanks for that, I needed a laugh I agree, and I wasn't saying the act of going prone was what could cause the AD. Its just that in the Military I knew the guys around me, and I knew that the hot chamber pointed at me was maintained and safe. I see all to many youtube videos of guys going to town with a dremel for some midnight gunsmithing. I have no idea how safe your pistol really is, I give most the benefit of the doubt, but I can see how it could be seen as a liability. Again let me reiterate that I do not like cold chambers, I as much as this is a game... muscle memory come to play, and bad habits get you killed when you carry daily.
  11. I personally hate C3 starts... I don't like to have to rack the slide when I come to present the weapon, it goes against everything I was taught and had ingrained into me. I spent nearly 8 years surround by guys with hot pistols, following them up ladders, crawling in storage crates and ship bulkheads... Not once did one of those guns have an AD, but we also carried DAK triggers and our gear was constantly under scrutiny from our armorers. How comfortable am I behind a guy, I don't know, who just jumped prone with a hot pistol that he did a $10 trigger mod to the night before to "Get ready for the Match!" I dunno just playing devils advocate...
  12. You are correct, what is allowed by law is the cost of goods... if it costs Magpul $2 to make a mag, then that is what they write off... Where the value comes is to the person on the receiving end. Think about it, if a company could write off full retail value, it would discourage sales.
  13. " the Hills". ? http://triangleshootingsports.com/
  14. Are you loading to capacity? Those 40's with the extensions are tight at a full 46. I normally down load 2 on AR's.
  15. As long as you don't work for them it is fine to make recommendations to sales... the rules are just specific about advertising on this forum without helping sponsor the forum.
  16. Why dumb things down. So if new shooters can't hit past 10 yards do we keep all the targets at 10 yards and in? Sounds like your sucking the challenge and fun out of the match that way. That was originally my thought too... but my thought was not the majority, and when brought to a vote, the club spoke. Its funny that that is where they ended up drawing a line... Im pretty sure our MD is related to Satan, and puts together some tough stages, like obstructed stars, some just plain evil no shoots, and fault lines that make it hard for gymnasts to shoot clean. Yet that is where the stink was... such as life
  17. At my club, guys complained about the spinners at our monthly action pistol matches... Now again this is pistol only, outlaw club match twice a month. The argument was that we attract new shooters with this match, and the 3 spinners we used ( 6 stages) were causing issues for the new guys. So we started painting them white and treating them like the other static steel target... 2 hits on top and 2 on the bottom to neutralize, bonus to spin it. This actually added a new element to the "gamming" of the stages and made for some close competition in the upper ranks and let the new shooters not feel discouraged to at least try to flip it but move on if they can't. In majors I'm torn... For the reasons stated earlier, I like spinners because they provide a challenging target that as stated before, requires careful stage management and planning which to me is a big part of what separates the top guys. It also rewards PF... But on the other side I know how frustrating it is to have one of these things ruin a stage. Consistency is what we want, and I think the weight idea is a good start. Thing is, for major matches, there are guys who's sole job is to reset targets... is it too much to ask the spinner be checked, lubed, and tightened between shooters (even more so if it is a buck or slug spinner?)
  18. This^^^ if you are building it yourself, and don't have a Geissele reaction rod, you are gonna have problems... same for the VLTOR MUR It's true that they don't fit a standard upper receiver block, but... I haven't had any problems assembling them without a Geissele reaction rod (I've assembled a few). You are correct, there are a few others, I didn't mean the reaction rod is the only one out there... its just what i ended up going with after looking at the options.. The names escape me of the others, but like these...
  19. That's what I would go by... These are the standards for a Balistic level protectionUS STANDARD MIL-PRF-31013, ANSI Z87.1-2003 & EN 166 STANDARDS Believe it or not, Maui Jim has the most loyal customer base right after Harley Davidson who has been and will probably always be number 1.I personally am a Persol man myself, but in the end a pair of high quality glass lens polarized sunglasses are one of those "once you have them, you never go back" kinda things. Just know if you take a round with those, they wont protect you. Also I try to only use sunglasses if I absolutely need to (I am one of those guys who wears them all the time so that is hard.) But when I get to the range I put my clears in and only switch if I have to shoot in direct sunlight or if the sun is just too damn bright. Sunglasses cause your pupils to dilate. In shooting we want as small of a aperture as possible to give us a nice clear picture of the front sight and target in the background... Think of a peep sight or the small ring on your AR. I was told that the Maui Jim's I have meet or exceed all ANSI standards....they just don't advertise it like the other guys do. That would not surprise me... I know a lot of bikers (MC type) that wear them... If you are riding down the road with an open face helmet, and take a rock to the face... It would be nice to have ballistic rating

  22. Yes but please remember that those $3 glasses will save you, but they are not optimal from an optics stand point... Ess, Oakley, Smith all make optically superior, ballistic rated, glasses that provide distortion free viewing...
  23. Yeah, do we really need a rule or another regulation? You can't fix stupid, I see guys spending 3k on a rifle but won't pony up $150 for decent eyewear? I get hit with enough splatter at most matches to be smart... Smith tactical elite for me... Killer product, ballistic rated, and the aegis that I have slips under ear pro without drama... I wore these for over a year on deployment, most comfortable eye pro for over the ear hearing protection hands down
  24. Bigarm, I am out of town for business until the 22nd, so my belt is in the garage until then, I will snap a pic when I get home. I am ordering a whole new IP setup, so I will post pics when I get it together.... I put Velcro on all my techloks, I am about a 32" waist so I need them to grab since I have 7 on my belt covering almost te entire front part. Nope no drilling required... These are the mini tmms by the way... The inners bolt to the techlok no issues, and most of my gear is blade-tech, so the outer bolt right to my carriers (ap 4s) Only thing I had to drill was my pistol mags since I run safariland 773's, but that was easy, just took the belt clip apart and drilled 2 holes to line up with 2 holes on the outer... Lock tight everything. I run a blade tech black ice for uspsa and action pistol and a wrs for 3 gun, these are mounted to the full size tmms on a tek lock. I put up with a couple crappy belts, even running my battle belt for a while until I thought the modular stuff was were I was comfortable spending the money... All said and done it's not cheap, but def worth it for me. I have a lot of stage versatility, and I don't have to have separate belts to run the other matches that I do.
  25. Well with the winters here the last couple years, the prospect of any skiing is pretty awesome... but anytime I get to ski at over 11K ft is a good time, why go to Europe right?
