  1. This particular part has me a little giddy... and is one of the reasons I can turn this into a vacation, IF I do it right!
  2. Guys, I really want to make this match. I have some questions however, I would be coming from CA so I need to make it a little mini trip. I was born in Vail, and have friends there I need to visit. I know Co Springs is about 3 hrs away and this is a 1 day match, but there were pro clinics and other things going on the day before. Is it going to be a similar format? Meaning should I plan on getting there Friday leaving Sunday?
  3. I wish I weighed it before I built it... This is completely a guess, but maybe 50% heavier? If you want super lightweight, and very accurate, get the VLTOR MUR with just the shell deflector no FA (but then its not a lefty)... When it came I seriously thought they forgot to put it in the box.
  4. Guys, you are over thinking it. Buy the packs with the 2 outer's and 1 inner... Inner goes on your belt or Tek-Lok, and outer's go on Accessories. If you mount the inner upside down, then the tab is on top which makes for swapping gear on stages a breeze. For about 100-120 (5-6 kits) you can have a completely modular setup for those of us with CRSpeed/Blade Tech belts. I run the same belt for 3gun, USPSA shotgun, and action pistol matches. For those of us amateurs that don't have 5 or 6 dedicated belts, this works well.
  5. Awesome, my new Comp is on its way... after doing the math, I realized that even with the stupid prices here in CA, I was coming out on top. Last thing I need is another "Project" gun that I start and never finish or take so long to finish that I don't get to use it. As I type this from my desk, i look around at 4 different gun projects in varying states of completeness. I sure hope Mark is making some money off it.
  6. Interesting! Just remember that this is a very heavy upper. The Samson Evolution free float looks like it was made for this upper... it took a little milling l to get the anti rotation tabs to fit, but it looks sweet.
  7. I honestly can't see shotgun loading getting any faster without the aid of something that holds the shells together and thus putting it in open... Unless you have really big hands and can actually get a purchase on 6 or eight shells. I mean we are at the point where guys are loading at the rate of .3-.4 per shell... Some cant even pull the trigger on target that fast.
  8. I am assuming that it will... but will my existing 28" VR work on the Comp model? I guess I am assuming the carbon sleeve is similar to the Carbon Arms one and swapping barrels will be easy?
  9. I have the upper receiver you are referencing, it is on a precision build and is extremely accurate, very thick and heavy. Brass seems to fling out of that thing way out at 3'oclock on a rifle gas system. Most shells seem to hit the back of the ejector port due to the increased thickness, but that gun normally sees heavy and hot match ammo. That being said, for a lefty I think a shell deflector would be nice. My 3-Gun rifle now that I look at it does have marks on the shell deflector... as a lefty that would mean brass in the face without a deflector.
  10. Yeah see unfortunately the guys with them in stock are price gouging and shipping one is about the same... Price I pay I guess to live in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia :/
  11. Buds gun shop ships 1330 plus your transfer fee Well I don't see them in stock... at least around here $75 Transfer + $30 Dros + Shipping (if any) again getting close to 1500 before tax... Just curious how guys were out the door for low 1300's that all.
  12. You guys are getting great prices, here in CA, the best price I found was $1500 before tax...
  13. Because there is no reason to carry a gun that's not ready to go? Agreed I hate empty chamber starts I am not Israeli. Not just Israeli, MP's on base used to carry C3.
  14. How can you practice pin and release in dry firing? Don't laugh. Practice shooting an air rifle or pistol. The pellet travels so slowly, its moving down the barrel for a (relatively) long time. It teaches you good follow through. I agree! Funny thing is lately, when playing sporting clays, I have been getting my best scores with the low recoil Winchester AA... I am convinced it is because at sub 1000+FPS it spends more time in the barrel and I get a better swing... I have no scientific data to support this, but its is working, so I am sticking to it.
  15. So I got the spare receiver off gunbroker, I was already buying something else, and here in CA, Internet transfers are kinda expensive, so I added a few receivers to the paperwork. I didn't realize Nordic was making it for the 1300 now... I'll have to look into that. I got a 22" VR Winchoke (Browning Invector) barrel from Midwest Gun Works, but it looks like those are gone. Like I said, maybe I will pick up another trigger guard and start grinding away.
  16. Just a little rounding of the sharp inside edges. I only shoot this thing 3 or 4 times a year, but part of me wouldn't mind making it easier. Which Nordic tube did you end up getting to fit the 1200? I have a spare receiver, but I need to buy a trigger group for it... If I find one cheap, I will totally offer mine as a guinea pig and grind the crap out of it...
  17. This!!! Go shoot some and see what you need. I have so much gear I bought only to never use because I found out after getting to the range that there was something better. And any advantage a purpose built rifle is going to bring will most likely be negated by your "newness" to the sport. Run what you have until it holds you back in a big way.
  18. So this particular shotgun I don't run often... Maybe best to explain things a bit more. So for most matches I run Tac Ops with a VersaMax tactical, I have a mix between traditional load 4 weak hand (ap custom 1x4's) and dual load, starting to get better with the quad and will probably go to that 100% here when I find caddies that I really like. Still always have at least 2 weak hand load 4 caddies for stages that require prone. A semi local USPSA club near me runs monthly matches, a few of us squad up and run it both tac-ops and He-Man/Pump. I put this together because I had a spare receiver laying around and I knew the 1300 to be a really slick pump. But I cant quad load on it. I also built it when weak hand load 4 was the only real method. Looking back now I should have gone with the supernova because the loading port is the weak point of the 1300 design. The 1300 trigger guard is part of the loading port, so it really cant be opened anymore. It also has a little plastic at the top of the port. Thats kinda the bad news, good news is the lifter is plenty long and the port leaves the top of the next shell exposed. This is a totally stock 1300. I did put a chote +5 and cut it a little shorter to ease loading and a nice slick follower. I am decent with the weak hand load 4 with this shotgun, but if I were to take the pump seriously, I would probably get a supernova to quad load.
  19. Hmmmm, Picture of the 1200's loading port would be nice... Is it at all similar to the 1300's loading port? if so i am semi familiar since I have a 1300 setup to run USPSA shotgun.
  20. Yeah the Hill Drill is great... I try to always practice with an elevated heart rate even if it is just a bit, sometimes that is not possible. But running and shooting, jumping jacks, and jump rope all work for me. I wear a Suunto Watch with a heart rate monitor so I am pretty aware of my HR throughout the day and I normally have a really low resting heart rate as it is. Now all that being said, cardio goes a very long way... the measure of how "in shape" you are is typically how quickly you can bring your HR and breathing back down after getting to breathless.
  21. How can you practice pin and release in dry firing? Since you have to rack the slide to do a reset? Do you just pull and pin? Thats how I was taught... As an Appleseed Instructor and Rifleman I can attest to the fundamental importance of follow through. I always ask my students this question... "How Fast is the Bullet (slug/buck/bird/Whatever) going when you break the trigger?" To which I get answers all over the board, some based on FPS... but the answer is always 0... the projectile is going exactly 0 when you squeeze that trigger. meaning any movement translates to POI shift. So you should always be practicing good trigger discipline regardless of what you are shooting.
  22. I'm not terribly worried about turn around time since I already have a barrel on the gun I can use until the new one gets here. What did they tell you there turn around time was BTW? Well when I was building the rifle it was right in the height of the whole panic last year so no retailers had it, from what I know, Nordic gets batches of the barrels in from Wilson, and then they do their magic, and ship em off. Basically once they sell out, it can be a bit until the next batch comes in, but like Mark said, he's got them.
  23. I wanted a Nordic 18" when I was building my latest 3G upper but Nordic's turnaround time was killing me, so I ended up getting the 18" Rainier UltraMatch .223 Wylde in SPR contour. As much as I wanted to support Nordic because of all they do for the game, I just couldn't wait so i went with the Rainier and I couldn't be happier. While there are benchrest guys that produce better numbers, none of them are doing 30-40 round mag dumps and then trying to shoot a group at 300+ with a smoking barrel. That is where the SPR contour shines. This thing rocks, Probably not much better than the Nordic, but with attached to a MUR it is a reliable .5-.75 gun. Even after a mag dump it will hold 1.5"
  24. Well a really small comp, and light weight is the Rainier Mini Comp.... Here it is next to their XTC comp (about A2 birdcage, maybe a little bigger) Fairly effective, really light and really small, just saying OMG is this thing loud! Even more so on shorter barrels. It is setup for a righty as you can see... Also the DNA collection device at the end shreds your bags, legs, quad seats, and just about everything else that it touches... yeah they're pointy
  25. Let me start this off by saying, I'm no pro or expert, and I am admittedly in better shape than most of the other guys at my local matches (6' 168lbs, I run everyday, bike a lot, lift 3 days a week, eat very well) but I was finding after a sprint to the next shooting spot I was jumpy in the scope and would be all over the place for a couple shots. Not necessarily winded sucking air, but just bobbing a lot. First I found that dial things back to about 85-90% produces much better results for me personally. Secondly one of the things I didn't even realize I was doing in the first place was trying to shoot with full lungs. I went back to my basics for marksmanship and medicine... at my local matches there is almost always a long 400 yd flasher after a sprint around one of the bays into the rifle stage. It is probably no more than 50 yards each month, but it is almost always there in some form, it is uphill and hot during the summer (100+) When I get to the barricade, I take a second to get set up, take a nice big breath, exhale slowly, and then take my shot at the bottom of that. If you are not winded you normally have about 7 to 12 seconds (depending on the body) at the bottom of that deep breath before your brain starts to see the very beginnings of asphyxiation (vision, and reflexes being the first to go, this is important). Now when you are winded that time shrinks even more, but there is still about a second or two where your vision and reflexes should be at a peak, and your movement at a minimum and that is when you take the shot. Taking the shot with full lungs forces blood to your brain which messes with your vision, and also can cause your breather to become even more labored. Even if I'm sucking air, if i concentrate on holding on the exhale and not the inhale my shots seem to be on target without a lot of drama.
