  2. My humble opinion is that you should buy a used gun first. Use it to experiment on - learn what you like and don't like. That way, if you decide to get a new gun "custom" to your specs, you'll know what you want. I'll defer your more technical questions to those with more experience with the gear - I'm relatively new to the platform too!
  3. How many uses are you getting from your Starline 38 super comp brass? I'm relatively new to the caliber - for me, it seems to get "bulge-y" after 2 or 3 uses. Load: 124 MG JHP, 9gr HS6
  4. I have both - and I prefer CR Speed. Both outer belts are stiff, but the CR Speed's inner belt is a little more 'stout' in my opinion. For me, the inner belt makes the rig feel a little more solid.

  6. Both eyes FWIW Good comments folks - I just wanted to be sure I wasn't screwing up a perfectly good zero because of my lack of skill. Looks like I'll be heading to the range soon
  7. This is probably a silly question: assuming ammo, trigger control, and grip are all equal, if 2 shooters of different height, arm length, etc, shoot the same gun - will the dot be zero for both of them? I bought a used open gun, and the original owner can get great hits with the gun (granted, he is a GM). When I shoot it (@10-15yds aiming at a 1" sticker on a USPSA target) I can group, but the group is about 2-3" low of center. My defacto thought is that it must be me and not the gun, but because my groups are tight but low, I started thinking it may be the zero. Thoughts?
  8. I get similar rings with the Hornady dies and xtreme 147s. I don't get them all of the time though. The bullets still group fine for me.
  9. Took the words right out of my mouth!
  10. I really like the Hornady Lock N Load. It is really easy to change calibers, the powder measure meters pretty well, and I *think* they still have a promo where you can get 500 free bullets.
  11. Just a comment - I've read on other threads here (BE) and on other forums to expect HS6 to be really dirty. After a detailed cleaning of the gun (including brass brush dremel cleaning of the comp) I shot a couple hundred rounds (maybe more) of 10gr VV 3n38 behind 124 MG JHP. Detailed cleaned again - including dremel brass brush cleaning the comp. Then shot a couple hundred more rounds of 9gr HS6 behind 124gr MG. I didn't have the foresight to take comparison pictures this time, but the HS6 was definitely cleaner than 3n38. HS6 left a lot less 'burn residue' on the comp in comparison to 3n38. I'll do this again in the coming weeks, and add pictures.
  12. Well I have succumbed to my curiosity - I've ordered the Salomon Speedcross 3, XA Pro (goretex), and the inov8 mud claws from Zappos. Gotta love free returns!
  13. That's only PF 161 - you have to put some more powder in those cases. Misread my logbook - chronoed 1370.
  14. Fiesta Friday is our big kick-off to the weekend - pig roast, *hopefully* live music - free to all competitors!
  15. Thanks for the replies! Using Federal Small Pistol Primers. Chrono-ed between 1300 and 1310. Reason I questioned it an because the primer dents looked a little funny. Thanks for the input folks, Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  16. Does this look like over pressure? 9.0 gr HS6 124 MG OAL 1.235
  17. Hey Tony - exciting times, man! Your first match will be fun. First, as all have said before me: SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY! Repetitive? Yes, but worth repeating. Just listen to the RO and you'll be ok. Here's the advice that was given to me during my "new shooters" meeting (it echoes a lot of what others have said): "There will be a lot of people shooting very very fast - DON'T try to catch them today. Treat this game like a report card... try to get straight A's. The speed will come."
  18. Just started shooting open a few weeks ago (production shooter for 2 years before this), and am curious about where you all are catching the dot as you acquire sight picture? Typically while I draw, I focus on the A zone of the first target I want to engage (assuming a draw from holster). My old habit is to have my sights 'appear' in the A zone, but I was curious if more proficient open shooters are catching the dot a little earlier. So relative to a humanoid target, are you guys catching the dot in the low part of the C zone? D zone? A zone? I write this knowing that part of the equation is getting used to my open gun, and being able to predict where the dot will appear.
  19. Just curious - why are so many shooters fans of Salomon shoes?
  20. I just recently started shooting Open, and man am I having trouble finding reloading components! I finally found brass, and luckily I have 2lbs of HS-6 lying around, but that'll be gone soon. Where are you guys finding stuff? I've heard that finding 3n38 this year will be harder than finding Jimmy Hoffa (sorry, couldn't resist) because of the Lapua acquisition. I can't even find HS-6 anymore. Thoughts?
  21. I really like the Dawson Ice - and i think they are back strap compatible Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  22. Glock 34 Gen 4 - 147 gr xtreme bullets, 3.5 gr HP-38/w231 (same thing) gets around 130pf for me. EDIT: FWIW, I do shoot production with this cocktail
  23. Hey folks - my cousin in the Chicago area wants to get into 3-gun. Any matches within a couple hours drive of the area?
  24. Cool - thanks guys! I'll try these
  25. HS6 may not be the powder of choice of 38 super these days - but I've run out of 3n38. I've searched on the forum, but only found a couple of recipes 124 JHP. Looks like the correct formula is somewhere around 9grs. Thoughts? Thanks and sorry for the repeated thread.
