  1. Practice for PSA....count 9, reload, 10, reload, 10, reload, 10, etc. Works until you have a miss and lose track. Ask me how I know.
  2. Some clubs have a minimum age. Other than that I think you have to be the judge as to when you child it ready. My oldest son has been shooting with me since he was six, and started shooting matches when he was 8 (he is now 10). Before he was 8 I felt he just didn't have the focus to stay safe through an entire match even though he knew firearms safety better and had better handling skills than some adults I have RO'd over the years. My youngest son who is now six really wants to start shooting matches with us. I let him shoot with us at practice but I only load one round in the mag at a time because the focus just isn't there yet. He just doesn't seem as mature or focused as my other son when he was at the same age. So unless the younger one matures some more before he is 8 I doubt he will start shooting matches as early as my oldest. My oldest is a super serious kid most of the time, the younger is a goofball (in a good way). So I just think that their personalities have alot to do with how they mature, stay focused, etc.
  3. Look at Fusion Firearms. They have some very nice complete "Diamond Series" 1911 top ends available for a good price. But just like all 1911 parts, some fitting still may be required.
  4. You see alot of ROs just hold up fingers for the scorer for misses at the end of each run and not tell the shooter anything as if it is some big secret that there was a miss or maybe the RO doesnt want to fluster the shooter. Any misses need to be called out at the end of each run and this should also include telling the shooter exactly which plate was allegedly missed. Now I also think that there needs to be clarification as to when it needs to be called. When I was at WSSC in 2016 there was an RO that was calling misses DURING the run. I told the RO to stop and he ignored me, so I went and got the CRO (Troy) and asked him to educate the RO. This is coaching and can also seriously disrupt a shooters concentration during a run (as it did in my case....so much so that I said that I wanted another run). The only thing an RO should ever say DURING a string is STOP! if there was some sort of serious problem or safety violation. Doing this for newbies at local matches shouldn't be a problem, but at a "World Championship" or anything higher than a local match it should never happen. On a similar but different topic, ROs that chitchat during my runs really irritates the hell out of me. I don't want to hear "nice run", "who built your guns", or any or crap between strings. Again, the only thing that should come out of an ROs mouth between the "make ready" and "range is clear" is official SCSA/USPSA/NROI commands.
  5. Yes, thanks, I understand that. I was wondering if anyone had actual specs or blueprints available for various guns and optics.
  6. Thanks. I figured that much of it out. Was wondering more where I might hit something when I drill/tap the holes for the mounting screws for different optics.
  7. Since I have a mill, I have had a few people ask if I can do slide cuts on their Glocks, Sig 320s, etc for slide mounted optics. I am familiar with how deep cuts can be on 1911 slide, but not any of the striker guns. Anyone know of a good resource for the dimensions of the cuts on various guns? I am mostly looking for how deep I can go before I hit something of importance and ruin a slide. Thanks, Scott

  9. I run a Red Hill Tactical on a Boss Hanger. Totally legal under USPSA and Steel Challenge holster requirements as far as the height adjustments.
  10. I think one of the biggest problems of the SCSA rules, old or new, is the consistency in which clubs and ROs enforce them and/or interpret them. The new rules will clarify some of this, but I have shot many matches at many different clubs and there is major inconsistencies on how rules are applied. Alot of the problem is, which is much different than USPSA, most local SCSA club matches are hurting for ROs. So getting an RO that is clueless about the rules is going to happen frequently. Many local SCSA matches will throw anybody willing to RO on a squad just because he/she knows how to operate a timer. Most USPSA matches would never allow anyone that is not NROI certified to run a shooter. Yes, there is way more to watch when ROing a USPSA shooter vs SCSA, but having an RO that is absolutely clueless about rules and even just makes things up as he goes is extremely frustrating. Throwing specific holster requirements in on this is kind of useless because the unexperienced SCSA RO probably has no clue what is legal and what is not in each division. Requiring clubs to use certified ROs could never happen because there is never enough of them at most local matches. Do I have a solution for this....no....just pointing it out.
  11. Not really since I am also shooting Limited at the match. I also don't want to be shooting from the SS holster position if I don't have to and if no one else in the SS division is.
  12. Thanks Zack! Would be nice to know, hopefully sooner than later. Have had to change my dryfire routine so I can specifically practice draws for the USPSA Single Stack holster position, which is considerably different than my open/limited holster.
  13. Isn't changing the equipment rules to use the division rules from USPSA kind of a VERY BIG change? This changes several divisons, especially Single Stack, where now the holster height and position rules would apply. If I am shooting SS at Nationals using the correct holster position from the USPSA rule and someone else is using the old rule of "vicinity of the waist" and is outside the allowed position and height of USPSA rules shouldn't they be bumped to Open for failing to comply? Same for Production as far as holster behind the hip bone, etc.
  14. I have had both and in my opinion the Springfields have always been nicer guns in fit, finish and reliability. I have never had to deal with Springfield for warranty issues since nothing has ever broken on them, but I have had to deal with STI and they are not easy to deal with when it comes to warranty issues and backlogs.
  15. Thanks! Prize table really isn't important to us. I helps, but isn't the only thing we use to pick which matches we will shoot. Will look in to the travel and hopefully we can make it to the match this year.
  16. A few of us are thinking about making the trip out from Pennsylvania. Do the match do awards and/or prizes? Also, if we are flying in, what is the closest airport and hotels? Thanks!
  17. Ok. Thanks. That might be important for people to know In years past you had to be there to pick your own prize and you could not have a substitute do it.
  18. Zack, is the format the same as the past US Nats, where you must be there on the last day to pick from the prize table (assuming there is a prize table)?
  19. When I was at South River Gun Club for Dave Sevigny's ProAm in 2015 there was an area that looked like it had parking spaces and hook-ups for RVs. Any clue who we can talk to at the club to see if those RV areas are available to rent during the match?
  20. No offense to Photoracer, but looking through the results from most major 2016 matches there are very few people running OL at 4 seconds per string with rimfire. 1.5 second penalty is not even close to enough of a penalty for people who chose not to move. Should stay at 3 seconds procedural if you choose not to move whether is is due to age, handicap. My current classifier time for OL in RFPO is 14.08, or 4.69 per string average. I would break this down as a .8 low ready draw, which only leaves 3.89 for shooting and moving. On a good day I might be able to make the actual movement from box to box in 1.5 seconds, but that would not account for actually getting back on target and shooting my first plate from the second box. If the penalty was only 1.5 seconds per sting I would choose to never even move
  21. I have a Micro 9. Not bad. Very snappy without an extended mag. KImber is taking forever to release the extended mags with the pinky extension, but I made my own from an extended Sig 938 mag.
  22. Still working on that with the new club. It is looking like they will either be all 8, or we will alternate each month between 6 and 8 stages.
  23. The 2016 East Coast Steel Challenge Championship match was the largest sanctioned Steel Challenge match in the World! Our three-day Championship hosted 280 individual shooters, from 19 different states and two countries, shooting 420 different guns. Combined with our Spring and Summer matches, we had over 700 registrations for the entire series. We gave away over $20,000 in cash payouts across all three matches and over $70,000 worth of prizes for the random drawing prize table for our Championship Match. Our 2017 season will bring some exciting new changes to our match series. First, we are moving our match series to Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club. The move to the new club will bring a better and larger facility which has “competition only” shooting bays. This will allow the match staff more time to set up each match without disrupting the general membership’s use of the club facilities. This will also allow us to now hold monthly matches, which will run from April though August with our Championship finishing up the series in September. We will also be hosting an October Toys For Tots match once again. All monthly matches will have Lewis Class cash payouts. The 2017 Championship will have cash payouts and a huge random drawing prize table. 2017 Match dates are… Monthly Tier 1 matches - April 8th, May 13th, June 10th, July 8th and August 12th, 2017 East Coast Steel Challenge Tier 3 Championship – September 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 2017 Please stop by our Facebook page to check out all the great feedback, pictures, video, etc that have been provided by the shooters, sponsors and vendors (https://www.facebook.com/groups/PASCSA/) and check out our website at http://eastcoaststeelchampionship.com.
