  1. Is it safe to store Small Pistol Primers in a glass jar? I have a few thousand I want to store and it would take up far less space in my safe if I took them out of the individual containers and put them in a glass jar. I don't see why I couldn't do that since its not under any vibration or exposed to air. igolfat8 NRA Classification: Marksman Posts: 20 Join date: 2013-04-06
  2. I preferred Zero's and shot thousands of them in .40 S&W. They became difficult to get so I switched to Berrys and X-treme bullets and did not notice any accuracy mean shift. X-treme has a much shinier outer surface than Berrys or Zeros but that is about all I noticed. I have had some feeding issues with X-treme 200 grain copper plated SWC .45s but their LSWC shoot fine. They look like identical bullet shapes but perhaps lead makes them feed better than the copper plated? No experience with their 230s though.
  3. Not a thread to discuss different lubes but what specific points do you lube on your 1911 pistol. Are there any areas to avoid lube? Just got a new SA Range Officer and the manual is very vague and doesn't show specifically where to lube it. Are there any charts or diagrams that highlight or identify specific lube points? PS, I love Slide Glide on my Glocks by I digress
  4. I have been pleased with the performance of Ghost connectors & springs in my Glocks.
  5. I put a LoneWolf bbl in my G35 and the accuracy improved along with tighter groups.
  6. I've got Ghost connectors in all my Glocks and they provide a much better feel, softer pull with their spring kits and can be tuned to eliminate over travel.
  7. Thanks for the welcome. I will check out the R/O-9 and Spartan models too.
  8. Hello. Have been a lurker for a few years. I am not a competition shooter but love to poke holes in paper. Have mostly shot .40 Glocks for the last 20 years but have the itch for a steel gun. Will likely put my Gen 4 G35 up for sale soon to fund a steel pistol. Not sure what caliber yet but budget is 1 K max. Springfield RO and 75B both intrigue me. STI would be nice but price is out of my range. Does 9mm have less felt recoil than .45? Is there an accuracy difference or advantage of either cal? I don't have any experience with either.
  9. Great story. Thanks for sharing your experience. A R/O is in my sights too.
  10. I am new to 1911s but hardly ever see the Sig name mentioned. Must be a reason eh?
  11. I wish they offered it in .40 S&W too.
  12. I will be eagerly following this thread too as I am in the same boat. Ihave shot Glocks for years and am selling my G35 in hopes of moving on to 1911 or perhaps a CZ?
  13. Not a competition shooter. I only shoot paper targets for fun. I am having problems with G35 slide not cycling w/ comp and trying to find the sweet spot for reliability.
  14. OK, Found burn rate chart on Hogdon's site. So I am trying the N320 as its the slowest burn rate of the 3 powders which I have on hand.
  15. I have a LW bbl on my Gen 4 G35 with a Carver Comp. I have 3 powders on hand: Clays, WST and N320. I have only worked up loads for 165 and 180 rounds so far. 200s are new to me so looking for suggestions to load Extreme 200 grain plated FP bullets. Looking for a soft starting load for target shooting & plinking. Don't have a chrono so can you suggest some loads and COAL? I have found published data on Hodgdon site for WST at 3.0 - 3.4 but my Speer manual says 3.8 - 4.5. That's quite a discrepancy? I read where a comp needs a slower burning powder to create more gas to operate the comp more efficiently but I don't know what the burn rates are for these 3 powders and which would be best for the comp? How does the COAL effect burn rates and is shorter better than longer?
  16. I weighed both slides. G22 (without barrel & spring) = 386 grams. G35 (without barrel and springs) = 425.5 grams. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I will try to run some factory loads through it in the next few days.
  17. I have a new Gen 4 G35 I purchased new. I can't get the slide to cycle to eject EVERY case. It simply won't run two in a row? I am not new to Glocks as I currently own a Gen3 22, Gen4 23 and Gen4 27. I reload but don't have a chrono. I only shoot paper and don't compete so PF is unimportant, softer the recoil the better. The pistol is clean and lubed with Eezox. Pistol is stock except for a Ghost connector. Stock recoil dual springs and barrel. The following loads were tried: 165 grain FMJ, 5.3 g W231, won't cycle the slide or eject case. 180 grain FMJ, 4.0 g W231, won't cycle the slide or eject case. 180 grain FMJ, 4.3 g WST, stove pipes. 180 grain FMJ, 4.6 g W231, won't cycle the slide or eject case. I have not tried any factory loads so I suppose my Lee balance beam scale could be off but these same loads work fine in the 3 other Glocks. I also tried the same loads with a LW barrel & Carver comp. Same results as above. Do I have a defective pistol and should I return it to Glock for evaluation?

  19. I have never been to an organized event or competition and wondered how they measure PF to determine Major and Minor. I have a basic understanding of the terms Major and Minor now. But how do they measure your ammo and gun? Do you have to submit a cartridge for every time you shoot? Do you hold the gun and fire through a chrono or does someone else shoot your gun or do they shoot it through a test gun? Are you measured just once for the day or each time you come to the firing line? How does it all work?
  20. I am an average shot at best and certainly not an expert marksman or professional by any stretch. I just enjoy punching holes in 8-1/2" x 11" printer copier paper and try to do the best I can to hit a 1" orange adhesive backed dot placed in the center of the paper and only compete against myself. When testing loads I do rest my pistol on a bag rest to remove as much human element as possible. I have several powders (W231, Clays, VV N320 and Power Pistol) that I have used or plan (N320) to use. My load work up procedure is to just try different powder weights and make notes which ones produce the most accuracy from my bag rest. My free hand shooting is certainly not as accurate as shooting from a rest. I was just curious how COAL or a chrono could be used to improve the accuracy of my loads even more. As I understand a chrono's function, its able to give you projectile speed but I did not understand the PF and Major Minor stuff so thanks for explaining that aspect. Can I assume that if one competes in the Minor category they would have an easier time controlling the gun, do to its lower recoil and therefore have more success in scoring bulls-eyes? And if competing in Major there is more recoil and perhaps more difficulty scoring bulls-eyes? If I don't compete is there really a need or advantage for me to invest in a chrono and could it help me improve the accuracy of my loads?
  21. Since I have never competed nor know anything about it, can someone explain what Major and Minor loads mean? Please keep your responses simple because I don't need a deep explanation. Is one more accurate than the other? TIA
