How does more powder, less powder & OAL affect the accuracy of the projectile? Granted, control of shot placement is in the hand of the shooter but how do these other factors affect projectile flight? Does OAL mainly contribute to the function of a SA pistol? Does more / less powder do more than contribute to the recoil amplitude? I am just trying to understand what part do these three factors play in a "perfect world" as if the gun were clamped in a Ransom Rest.

I have been loading for a few years, mostly to save money shooting my .40 S&W pistols. I don't shoot competition so I don't understand Major and Minor jargon. Neither do I have a chrono. My goal is to develop loads for my 40s for target shooting and SD accuracy without a mule kick. For someone with my needs what is your advice and process for developing accurate loads?
