  1. I am running 4.8 231 under a LRN moly bullet, makes about 730 - 750 fps. Makes major in USPSA.
  2. In every instance I have been involved as RO for pre-loading bring group of shooters to pre-load table and they load. Once entire squad is loaded no touching of guns until it is their turn to shoot. Pre-load table is against berm so can't get in front of loaded gun. If they need to change choke then they unload under the direction of RO and then take gun to safe area to change choke. Once done back to pre-load under RO direction, gun left on table. Did this once three times for a competitor changing chokes.
  3. This brass all picked up from USPSA matches and we don't have any major 9 shooters that I know of. Maybe just a loose chamber.
  4. No I am not lubing brass, I did have that thought. I did not lube my pistol brass until I started loading 44 mag and 45 colt on my 550. Do you spray on lube in a tub before loading the case feeder?
  5. Reloading 9mm last night on my 650 and a couple of brass came out of sizing die like this. Any ideas why? Poor picture but the brss is heavily bulged at the bottom. Went far enough into die to push out primer.
  6. What comments made you decide not to buy one? Your experience, while a bit too late to help you, is a pretty good advertisement for a powder check die. I think it was trying to get it set-up correctly. I am loading multiple calibers on my 650 so the thought of buying multiple ones or changing it made me decide against it. I have my press on a strong mount and a tall bench, I stand to load so looking into the case on the press was not working. the mirror worked great for visually checking the powder.
  7. +1 I shoot the classifier like I would any stage in a match. Could I have a higher classification if I reshot it several times, sure. But I want to be classified where I shoot. Any grief I get from the locals about where I finish in local matches I point straight to where I finished in the last Area 2, Western States Siingle Stack or Nationals, 55 to 57% of the match winner. What is my classification in the divisions I shoot C, 53 to 58% depending on the division. I am more worried about people sandbagging the classifiers, not elevating their scores.
  8. This. Due to my gun buying addiction I have become well versed in the world of high end designer purses. Haha! Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2 Too late, grandkids at resort for two nights. Makes us about even.
  9. Having a wife that notices that I have been following some auctions on Gunbroker and offering up the extra funds for a new Les Baer Monolith.
  10. I spend about $800 on match fees and travel, $20 a month for two local matches and about $600 for big local (Area II & WSSS) match fees and hotel. I probably spend $400 on primers and powder although i had stocked on up primers many, many years ago so not really buying many. Say another $600 on bullets. I consider the local match fees part of my entertainment budget, $20 a month would almost cover a movie with my wife. So $1500 year on items you never get back. I can't tell you the last time I bought any brass unless it was for something new, 44 mag or 45 colt. I don't consider gun purchase or large investment in Dillon machines part of that expense. As has been stated here already those are investments and could be turned to cash sometimes at a profit. I do set aside money from a yearly bonus for a highend purchase, this year that was a LB Custom Carry. But I have also purchased a DPMS Recon, a Super Blackhawk 44, a New Model Blackhawk 45 colt, a XDM 9mm and just ordered another LB. If the cash would have not been there no guns would have been purchased, they come after the components.
  11. I don't know if I would call it an app. But I was told that people just review the Wal-Mart stock for their store using the Wal-mart web site. It is supposed to show what will go on the shelves the next day at 7:00 am. I would guess that you would need to check it late in the day. I have not tried since I don't live near one. Did stand in line one morning next to a guy that had it on his phone. It did show the ammo that was put out just not the quantity. About 10 boxes came out and all went to the first four people in line.
  12. I would throw out for the discussion. What if the DT was a regular target that was not taped? Rule 9.1.4 says that the RO must judge whether an accurate score can be determined. In this instance the competitor stopped before he shot the target, the RO knows he did not shoot the target so the RO should be able to determine an accurate score. Even further this was the first shooter IIRC, so there is no question it was not restored form the last squad. I am in the no reshoot camp.
  13. Even at my lowly level of shooting I could get 2 shots off in 6 seconds weak hand.
  14. Thats why I like this forum more than any others, so much of what you know as an RO is what you have experienced. That is a good explanation of how to use the rule 10.2.2. I agree with target being engaged so no penalty but thought there might still be a penalty. Not to be a gamer but I wonder if you were fast enough to get equal hit factor with out taking the shots. I am not that good working hit factor in my head but might pull a spreadsheet to check out. I would automaticaly say there must not be or people would be doing it.
  15. I think in this case there are procedural penalties but not for FTE. I think 10.2.2 would apply, failure to comply with the procedure specified. In this instance, I as the RO would assess a single procedural for failing to comply with the WSB even though the WSB says two rounds weak hand. The shooter is already getting tagged for the two misses plus a procedural; they are down at least 30 points on a 120 point stage. I would argue they didn't get a significant advantage by not engaging the last target.

    Color Coat?

Check out the finishes from Extremeshooters, com. Not really what I like but I have seem some really good looking finishes.
  17. At our range they are respectfully asked to leave. At large ranges where matches and public shooting is going on they are asked to return to the open shooting area. At these cold ranges then a range safety officer can take over.
  18. I think this is definitely an issue where CC is common, for the competitor that CC or a spectator. At a cold range where do unload the carry gun? Can't go to the safety area, can't handle a gun anywhere else. At our range people stop outside the gate and unload on the side of the access road.
  19. Most ranges are cold ranges and are posted as such although our range is not posted either. I have handled this the same way but usually it is with someone open carrying. A RO takes them to an open bay and has them clear the gun. Also gets an explanation of the sports safety rules. Usually the spectator is fine with it, but I have seen some leave the range.
  20. Nothing to stop you from shooting your production gun in open, just like limited! Mike You are right I should have done that this year, they call it open for a reason.
  21. Not in Open or Revolver, no Open gun and no gear for revolver. At our clubs special classifier match last year shot Limited, Limited 10 and Production with the same gun, XDM 40.
  22. Here in AZ lots of clubs around and people take the opportunity to get to lots of different clubs matches. Clubs all work differently, Rio Salado is open squadding so you show up and shoot the stages at your discretion. You could be done shooting hours before the last shooter is done. Not a member there but have shot there a few times, i get done I head home. Other smaller clubs ask for help tearing down and specifically ask club members to help with this. Fortunately for our club all props and stands just have to be stacked at the head of the bay; takes about 10 minutes to tear a stage down. If you are not a member of our club we don't expect you to stay and help but we do appreciate it. Some people will do what ever it takes to help, members of the club or not. Those are usually the ones that have done this by themselves or with little help in the past.
  23. Why do some gun stores close on Saturday? When I get a chance to travel out of town it is almost always on a weekend. Do some research on local gun stores to see what is around, get there on Saturday and they are closed. I understand needing time off for employees but would think Saturday is a high traffic day.
  24. I believe that the answer is tied to the specifics of the WSB. I cannot tell if the description says all spare ammo must come from the table or might say unloaded gun and mag starts on the table. IMO that is the key. I was an RO for stage 17 at 2012 Handgun Nationals, WSB said unloaded gun on table and all spare ammo on table. At set-up we discussed what that meant for carryiing ammo and finally went to CRO Carl Schmidt. We were told that the WBS said all spare ammo must be on the table, once the buzzer goes off where that ammo goes is up to the shooter. Here is what we saw. 1. shooter grabs two mags and stuffs them in belt mag pouches; in this case most pouches are already set for the specified division so no real issue; 2. shooter throws mag near the final port to use just in case; he doesn't want to come back to the table; does another reload from table as he passes by; 3. shooter stands mag up, at signal grabs gun runs it down on the standing mag to load and grabs couple of spares; holds mags in hand 4. shooter lines up mag with magwell on gun just short of touching the gun, at buzzer one hand one top of gun one hand on bottom of mag, slams them together and goes; reloads from table 5. shooter grabs gun, mags and loads; grabs spare mag from table into belt (not in a mag pouch) and reloads going by. Most production/L10 shooters either shooter grabbed two mags and put them in the mag pouch or slid under belt. Limited and open shooters just grabbed a mag going by table and finished. If the WSB says all spare ammo on table at start the shooter gets to decide how to carry. If the WSB does not specify then 5.2.4 applies.
  25. Looks like a fun stage! There's a hard lean in it if I'm looking at it correctly. That would be a tough one for the lefties. Lefties get one back on the back left side, hard around for the righties. Sometimes I will create a mirror stage with the idea that what will be easy for right handed will be hard for left, flop it around on the other side hard for righties.
