  1. I would agree with Mark R, you could probably use less walls and get the same effect, especially if this is for club match. I have a couple suggestions Boxed In. I don't see what activates the swinger on the left side. It looks like there is a tunnel that might have to be shot out of or at least moved through to get to a final shooting position further down. Tunnels offer a couple of challenges. It is easy for a shooter to sweep themselves moving through. Do you have a plan for the shooters that are not capable of getting down and through the tunnel, what kind of penalty seems fair? They can't go around and shoot the last array with a penalty. Also how does the RO get around the tunnel to continue monitoring the shooter? Best advice is draw them up, build them and see what works.
  2. Just bought a set of these off another site. They definitely are not SS legal with the middle mag pouch. The belt attachment on this set is the quick release but it is bulky. With a mag in the middle pouch it is 2 inches from the inside of the outer belt (CR Speed). There is a spacer that sets that pouch out considerably, I think they can be reduced and make it within the rule limit. I would also like to be able to adjust the pouches a little more vertically so they are closer to same height. The rig does take up less space then three of the Safariland pouches I am using now. I like the quick release attachment, the mags come out smooth and they seem to hold well. I will play with it some and see if I can't rig up something that works for SS. I am going to use it next weekend at the Halloween Hosefest in Las Vegas. They are allowing SS shooters to attach extra mags any place since these are 50+ round stages.
  3. I would have definitely gone with the slow body plan. Now seeing what higher level shooters are doing, I will re-evaluate how I handle these, can try it and see how it works.
  4. Worked the stage at Nationals that had this array. Super Squad and GM's took A's in the body not even slowing down. Many A class shooters took shots at the head, started at neck and second shot definitely in the head. Many B-C class went slow at the body.
  5. So how much did you get paid for 5 gallons of yellow brass? I came out with $132, just over 62 pounds.
  6. I RO'd a bay at 2012 Nationals that was two stages. Start position of second was at the end point of stage 1. But to avoid this problem we staggered shooters. Finish 1 ULSC, shooter is in the hole on second stage. That gives time for them to regroup if they blew the first stage and actually allows the bay to run faster. You are not waiting for the same shooter to go through the start rituals, chase down ammo/mags if necessary. Also scores faster because same shooter is not trying to verify scores on two stages. In this instance I say no DQ. Shooter was loaded, escorted to the new start position and technically still under the make ready command IMO. I think it is always good for the shooter to ask the RO if they are able to handle the gun in this type of situation. That goes for whether the gun was loaded or not. You never want to get DQ for misunderstanding of where you think you are in regards to range commands.
  7. The scrap yard I went to didn't care. They ran a magnet through it looking for steel, found 1 piece in the total 5 gallons.
  8. Once I get to this point I lay all the brass out on a large drip pan, 2x4. Lay them down flat and it is easy to see the 38 super from the 9mm. Separating the 38 Super from SC is the hard part. Brought home 2 5-gallon buckets from 2012 Nationals took some time to separate them out. This year I have a junior shooter sorting it all out. He gets to keep all the 40 for his effort.
  9. I watchout for prevailing wind as well. Strong wins can really get those carts moving across a smooth parking lot.
  10. I pick up lots of brass ata local shooting spot. Anything I can use gets saved, the rest goes into a 5 gallon bucket. This is berdan primed military brass, crushed brass, split cases or any 9mm major I gett at Open nationals. When that bucket is full and it may take a year or so, I take it to a scrap yard. Last trip was about $2.15 a pound and that bucket netted me about $135.
  11. Nationals stage 12 had a low port, everyone had to crouch or go prone. Don't see as much of the carrying props but hear about it often.
  12. Outside on an unsupervised range. I have shot out the screens and had issues with sun angle here in AZ. Found a big sun umbrella from outdoor patio and use that over the screens. When done with the chrono move the shade so I can practice standing underneath it.
  13. In the last seven days with approval from the family accountant I have picked up a Sig Tactical 556 with 300 rounds of ammo and a Savage BA110 338 Lapua Magnum with a Leupold Mark 4 scope, 500 MatchKing bullets, 3 pounds of powder, 50 pieces of brass and Lyman dies. I won't be asking for anything more for a long time.
  14. Our club has declared barrels as soft cover. A shooter takes the chance that a hit on the target can be scored or that the bullet goes through at all. If I have targets partially hidden behind barrels I paint the portion hidden as hard cover. If a shooter gets lucky and a bullet goes through doesn't matter hole is in hard cover.
  15. 40 S&W. back in the tumbler now. I usually run about 4 hours and then out. Seen wet tumbling and would consider it when these wear out.
  16. I would think yes but would have to make sure they stay close enough to the belt. The one with the magnet definitely is not legal, no magnets allowed in single stack.
  17. Did think about pictures but was more concerned with getting the on but not running tumblers in. Just now got the brass dry enough to get the old media out. Will have to tumble again as soon as it stops raining.
  18. I am having the same problem, 1 out of every 300 to 400 won't go in the primer pick up tube.
  19. Registered and fees sent in, first year shooting this match, can't wait.
  20. Set my tumblers up out outside today at lunch, clear blue skies. I keep the lids off of them so dust doesn't build up inside. Headed back to training class for the afternoon. About 2:00 start hearing the rain hitting the roof, hope it is not too long since the tumblers are outside. Well 4 hours of rain later when I get home they have stopped running and the corn cob has swollen up 3 times the volume, completely filling the tumbler. Washed all the brass off but still some corn cob down in the brass. Sitting outside in a basket to dry until tomorrow. What a mess.
  21. I generally walk through during the walk through. We have up to 15 people in a squad at regular club match and hard to get a real run on the stage without someone stopping or stepping in your way.
  22. Finally a weekend where I don't have something planned over a match and no matches to be had anywhere. Why? Because this is the 5th weekend in the month; I hate that.
  23. I use them up. I fill enough primer fill tubes for what I plan on reloading. If something comes up and I stop before I expect extra primers are in the tubes not the machine.
  24. I think I am about 1.26, don't have my reload data in the house. I think shorter usually means more pressure so more velocity.
  25. I have shot L-10 for about a year, including last year Area 2. I never thought I was hiding, in fact may classification is higher in L-10 than Limited, Production or SS. I actually started after a friend told me my gear wasn't competitive in Limited. My gear, Para P-14 45, extended mags getting 18+1 loaded, ghost holster, mag well, etc. Why did he think it was not competitive, because I couldn't load 22 +1 in my gun. I could only ever recall one stage ever that I had to reload and he did not, 22 round field course ending on steel. Even with 22 I would probably have reloaded going to steel just not to finish on slide lock with no extra rounds like he did. Generally all stages are 8 round friendly so everyone shooting limited reloads at 16 anyway. I never felt at a disadvantage and really just did it for something to do, did it for a year. Now shooting production after a long time shooting SS. I really wonder why more people don't shoot limited instead of Production. There are a few places mag limited but here in AZ load that Glock up to 20+ and have at it. Don't need competition holsters, lots of limited guys don't shoot with them, need fewer mags for the people just starting, 3 instead of 5, get a mag well or not. I am not classified in Open but just bought a Baer Monolith I am going to get classified with. Never need more than 8 rounds at a time for a classifier.
