  1. Love it! I don't know if it's the CM hammer, or just a coincidence but the pull weight was reduced by two ounces, although I don't know if there's a noticeable difference in hammer speed.
  2. It's not the barrel that's high, but your hand that's low. Here's a picture of a Limited superimposed on a 1911: As you can see, the pistol is essentially the same size and shape, the biggest difference is the beaver tail. The beaver tail of the Limited is cut higher so you can get a higher grip, sinking the pistol lower in your hand.
  3. This is an SP01 slide with a TS barrel: Same slide/barrel on my TS frame:
  4. I'm never really sure what to say to 1911 fans because I am decidedly not. I have shot a few, but my strong hand thumb always drags on the slide, I find the sights to feel high in the hand and the grip leaves much to be desired. The Limited on the other hand has a slide in frame design which allows you to take a high grip without interfering with the slide, I higher beaver tail and excellent ergonomics. That being said, I know 1911 guys pride themselves on their crisp triggers; if you like light triggers (read less than 2.5#) the Limited may be a disappointment out of the box. I'm a real trigger snob, so the CZ Tactical Sport has been the only trigger I was overly impressed with straight out of the box (tuned up it's really awesome ).
  5. Is there a big problem with steroids use in the shooting community?
  6. That's what the Chop Shop is for! Pictures, pictures, pictures
  7. That blows my "if the powder is too fast bullets will tumble" theory...
  8. Which powder were you using Chase?
  9. I too have had tumbling 147s come out of my CZ 75 platform pistols and assumed 850fps was just too slow for a 147 to be accurate, but a friend pointed out that my 158gr .38 special loads shoot one hole groups out of my revolvers doing only 755fps??? I hadn't considered the twist rate until reading your comment so I looked it up: the CZ has a twist rate of 1:9.7 and my revolvers are 1:18.7 so am I following your logic correctly that the tighter twist needs more velocity to stabilize a given bullet? That sounds counter intuitive to me. A seasoned reloader told me the tumbling bullets were a result of my powder selection (Clays) and that there was no reason I could not achieve an accurate load with 147s or even 160s. What do you think?
  10. You can say that again! In '95 coming home from the Pan American Games trials the shuttle dropped me at the airport eight hours before my flight, not wanting my checked bags to sit all day I just kept them with me and hung out at the airport. There I was: alone in the Atlanta airport three guns in my gun case and 5000 rounds of .22 short ammo in my suitcase (a gift from CCI). I was 13 at the time... how things wave changed.
  11. Easy fix: use a CZ trigger and drill out the holes to fit; CZ uses 2.25mm pins and Tanfoglio uses 2.75mm pins.
  12. If you open up the bushing in the slide you can use the barrel from the TS, its sticks out .6", just right without the need to cut/crown.
  13. You might want tp try an 11# recoil spring while you're at it.
  14. You've got a lot of questions there so I'll go after the easiest first: crimp. If you have your bullet of choice, gradually increase the crimp until the bullet can't be pushed in by pressing it down on the bench with your thumb. Next is OAL: find a length which feeds reliably in your pistol(s) and stick to it. Neither of these things really need to change unless there's a problem. Primers: as long as your gun sets them off reliably you're GTG. Powder: if I'm considering a powder I'll search this forum, if I come up empty, or just a few hits, I move along. The members here have spent TONS of time and money testing EVERYTHING; the chances you've thought of something no one else has are pretty slim. So I would suggest trying a few powders which are popular for your purpose and see which one you like best. For 9 minor lots of people use Clays, Title group, Bullseye, etc. What type of powder are you using?
  15. Back out the over travel screw a half turn.
  16. Thanks for the intel Fatboy, that certainly paints a different picture. If this is true, does that change anyone's vote? I think most people over rate money as a motivator; if the current president wants out, I'd bet doubling the pay wouldn't make a difference. If you're not seeing your family as much as you want no amount of money will change that. There was a hotshot young employee at my company who left ten years ago for more pay as a regional supervisor in a big company; eight years later he had a wife and kids he never saw and begged to come home to his old job. For a young, single guy travel can be exciting, but for family men it plain sucks regardless of the pay.
  17. When you're talking about the top end competition pistols both CZs and Tanfoglios are hard to find and sell at a premium. That being said, the Tanfo steel line is a significantly better value than the CZ75B. Which is better? I own 11 CZ75 pattern pistols including a CZs, Tanfoglio, Jericho's and a Canik so I can tell you fully tuned they all have very similar potential. All the pistols handle very similarly, although the checkering on the Tanfo Elite pistols is way more aggressive. Out of the box the CZ DA triggers are sligthy better and I think have slightly better potential when fully tuned. The Tanfo are far better looking. As for the SA triggers the CZ Tactical Sport/Czechmate is hands down the best. The Limited .40 trigger is way worse out of the box, fully tuned it's closer, but it makes up some ground with load options: the TS likes few bullet types and can't be loaded very long (it's small framed), but the Limited can take a variety of bullets and load a variety of lengths (really long using 10mm mags). Hope this helps.
  18. If you bought it in the US I'd bed dollars to doughnuts its a large frame. New style large frame .40/9 mags are matte black and have a spacer in the back of the tube.
  19. First off, is $55K the package, or just his salary? Does anyone know? It makes it hard to form an intelligent opinion without all the facts?
  20. It was custom made by a gunsmith for the previous owner. It uses cones instead of baffles; it's an unusual design.
  21. Dan, Your 60gr zinc bullets would make an awesome minor load! If you loaded them over a case full (9-10gr) of a slow powder (HS-6, AutoComp, etc.) you'd get enough gas to work just about any comp, but still be way under major PF (maybe even under minor PF). This airsoft comp actually shot pretty flat albeit pretty hard in the hand with Major loads (there's not much baffle area), but work great with your light bullets. This is how it started: then I cut off the male threads, drilled it out and tapped it; it was like $17 shipped from China. I also have a few two port small frame Witness comps like this one from Numrich: The nice thing about Small frame Witnesses is that their barrels have an OD of 14mm, just like CZ Tactical Sport, SP01, and others (basically all of them but the 9mm 75B and 9mm compacts). I have the taps and dies, so I'd love to help with ideas and/or implementation.
