  1. Which powders are you trying to get/find a replacement for?
  2. Best thing you could do is find a mentor in your area, but make sure you bring something to the table, don't be a mooch
  3. Thumb rest! I like the Arredondo, it's cheap and feels great, much more natural thumb forward position

  5. Once I had a taste of a light Open gun I couldn't get enough While I prefer my CZ75 pattern pistols to the 2011s, they have a steel grip which puts them at a ~6oz disadvantage. My goal weight is 40oz with at least a 5" barrel and I think I can get there with my CZ75SA based Open gun equipped with a Ti comp, a lightened slide and maybe a few holes in the frame
  6. I'm actually toying with the idea of drilling holes in the frame, to lose weight and for the cheese grater effect Kinda like this:
  7. I had always been curious about 2011s as well as 38 super, so when I had an opportunity I picked up two 2011s in 38, then I got this one in 9mm built by Donny Glock with Jared's comp. The best part about it is it's light weight, this is how it sits today: It shoots really well although I prefer the ergonomics of the CZs and Tanfoglios, the mags are also a real pain. On the bright side it has given me some great ideas... Stay tuned
  8. I tumble in walnut for 45 min, load, then tumble in walnut for another 45 min. Looks good, feeds great
  9. A word of caution using the K10s for USPSA: with Grams followers and Henning base pads the bodies swell when fully loaded to the point where you can't get them in the mag well; they work well with 18-19 rounds, but definitely not 21. Here's what I don't get about loading as long as possible as a general rule: I get that loading long lowers pressure and allows you to use slower powder/heavier bullets without running into overpressure issues, but it also takes more powder to make the same velocity, which is the opposite of what you want with a non compensated gun right? Didn't "loading long" start because large frame 1911/2011 guns could not reliably feed the small frame .40 round when loaded to SAAMI length? I don't shoot enough Limited to have an informed opinion on it, but it seems to me there is more superstition and folk lore surrounding the issue than actual data.
  10. If you have the second barrel with no holes, I would try to find someone willing to make you a custom comp for it with a more modern design and skip the holes at first, you can always drill the holes later if you want, but a good comp will never hurt.
  11. The problem is that the load required to make major changes as you drill holes in the barrel, so there is no "given load". The two port comp used on the V12 Gold Team leaves much to be desired which is why there are 12 barrel ports to compensate (pun intended). Two holes in the barrel at 12 o'clock seems to be a popular choice with many builders, just like this 2011 I recently picked up: A good comp is crucial, and a few holes in the barrel give it a little extra down force. The trade-off on a long comp is the weight, a long heavy steel comp makes the gun steer like a battleship, but this one by Binary Engineering is Ti and really light.
  12. I had a gunsmith in CO do the work for me. In general compensators dissipate a lot of the energy before the slide unlocks from the lugs and cycles, the more efficient the compensator, the less stress on the gun. 9 major with no compensator ports is hard on the gun, one port is less, two ports is less still... The other issue is the more gas you're losing out of holes in the barrel the more powder you need to make major, so not all "9 major" is created equal.
  13. Case pressure at major PF has more to do with powder/bullet choices than caliber, I load 9 major with soft pistol primers and don't even flatten them. I've loaded tens of thousands of 9 major rounds with whatever brass I pick up and never seen a split case. I have seen what Rowdy is talking about and I suspect it's one particular gun model checking up brass.
  14. It's not that crazy, I had a comp come off in the middle of a stage and finished with no comp, it was stout, but not the end of the world. I would expect to to beat up the gun a lot over an extended period though. Here's what I did with a spare Gold Team barrel and a Stock II slide:
  15. I have a 38 super AET barrel which drives tacks with MG, but opens up with Xtremes past ten yards.
  16. CZ USA carries them: http://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/309000000135_Grip-Screw-For-Ub-Aluminum-Grip-758597
  17. M3.5x.6 is the thread, I'm not sure on the length, maybe 5mm
  18. Open minor with a 95gr bullet and a case full of really slow powder?
  19. You no like, you no buy. If you buy you have no one to blame but yourself.
