  1. I have a Maryland Gun Works Sig Sight Pusher. Here is a link to one that is currently available at Midway USA. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/196518/maryland-gun-works-front-and-rear-sight-tool-sig I've used it on three X-5's, two P226 USPSA models (they come with fiber optic fronts but the stock sights were too high for me), two standard P226's (one in .40 and one in 9mm), and on a P229 9mm and a P229 .40. I put a Dawson FIber Optic front on all of them. Also changed the rear sights on two standard P226's without issue (installed Warren Tactical rear sights) with the same tool. At some point I will probably do the same with my P220 and P227 in regards to changing front sight.
  2. Scout--I'm a little late in seeing your question. I had to take a Dremel wheel and cut the front sight out of my All Around slide to get it out so that I could put the Dawson sight in the slide. SIG pusher wouldn't budge it. You have to be very careful or you will cut too far and put a little groove in the slide. Don't ask me how I know that. I also hope you got a wide (0.140"?) front Dawson sight to go with the wide rear sight. Joe Just measured the original sight (still on gun) its .130 wide and the dawson i have is .100 wide. They have a .125 listed for the #6 @ .170 tall I've installed a Dawson Fiber Optic front on all three of my X-5's (L1, Comp, and All Around). I put a 0.125" width on all of them and for me it's perfect for running in USPSA competition (Limited with L1 and Comp in .40s&w and Production with All Around 9mm). I used a Sig Sight Pusher on each one and on my X-5 Comp part of the base broke off of the stock sight as I was removing it as it was on so secure. The other two the front sight popped right off.
  3. Really? Can you please point me in the direction of a Taurus or SIG 2011? I plan on working A7 at SIG this year, and would love a deal on a SIG 2011. Not everyone is shooting in Limited or Open, and even in Limited or Open not everyone is shooting a 2011.
  4. That is amazing people are bidding up to that level! Yes, definitely a great gun, but a $6000 and higher great gun? I guess value is in the eye of the beholder. I could get two Ed Browns for that price.
  5. In Limited division the Sig Sauer P226 X-5 Competition and L1 models (I use the L1) are rarely seen in my area. Its at a disadvantage as max reloadable mag capacity with mag extensions is 17 rds of .40. But it's an amazing pistol to shoot. Groups unlike any gun I've shot including my Dawson Tuned STI Edge and it's smooth as warm butter.
  6. I own the following four guns and have used them all in Limited division. So for me to rank them based on my personal preference is: Good - Springfield XDm 5.25"/EAA Witness Elite Match Better - Dawson Tuned STI Edge Best - Sig Sauer P226 X-5 L1 with adjustable trigger
  7. Thanks for the replies. Since it's not a structural crack, does that mean it's not a total loss? What would you guys recommend to fix/fill it?
  8. I bought an XDm 40 4.5" slide off a forum member recently. The rear fixed sights had been replaced by a prior owner with adjustable sights. The slide had been repainted in some cheap high gloss paint (looked like spray paint) and the slide was in pretty rough shape. So, I decided to strip off the old paint and have it recoated (cerakote or duracote). As I was stripping off the old paint, I discovered this crack in the slide on the right hand side of the slide by where the rear sight had been machined into the slide (see attached picture). It was covered by the bad paint job. Can this be repaired? And if so, what would be the best way to repair it? Or am I just out of luck? %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h429/runningsaluki13/xdmcrackedslide_zpsd698cb74.jpeg
  9. You won't have any issues with it. I don't normally shoot Single Stack, but I have a few times with my DE 1911 and I've never had any issue. I've never had any issue with it any time I've shot it.
  10. Ditto. I've had one since Magnum Research first came out with them. I own the full size Government model. Very nice mid range priced 1911 (approximately $750 give or take). The bluing is showing wear, but no big deal. Other than the huge rollmark on the slide, it's a very good value for the price.

    Beretta elite 2

I don't think he was making reference that the "gun" won Nationals, but that it was just the gun Ben "used" to win Nationals. I believe the person, like the rest of us, believe that Ben would be world class regardless of what gun he was shooting.
  12. When I ordered mine it took me awhile to hear back from Roger as well. He travels a lot for his job. He will definitely get back to you. And from my personal experience with mag extensions, his are the best for the X-5 format.
  13. I can get 17 rounds of .40s&w into the mag with the Roger Sherman extensions. If I did some work to the spring and follower, or also bought a modified spring and follower from Roger Sherman, I could get 18 .40s&w. I've never used them for 9mm so not sure if they would add 2, 3, or possibly 4 more rounds (with modified spring and follower)?

    P226 recoil spring

Just remove the grips and you can see if you have the plastic base or not for the main spring/hammer spring. My guess is you will have it.
  15. KentG, I've attached a pic of my X-5's that have the magwell made by Dan Woodard (Staudacher) so you can see how they look and their size. The black anodized magwell is on my X-5 Competition .40 model, and the silver anodized magwell is on my X-5 L1 .40. I've also attached a pic with my X-5 L1 (before I added Hogue G10 grips and the after market magwell) and the X-5 Comp with the Roger Sherman extended basepads so you can see they work great in either the Sig stock magwell or the after market magwell. You will love shooting the X-5. It's the best gun I have ever shot (and I own a Dawson Precision tuned STI Edge). %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h429/runningsaluki13/SigP226X5trio_zpsc087af03.jpeg %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h429/runningsaluki13/SigX5s-1.jpeg
  16. Here is the email to Roger Sherman for the extended basepads for the mag. They are made out of a high quality metal and work great. They work for both 9mmm and .40s&w mags of both Sig and Mecgar. Roger Sherman email prairiedawgshooter@msn.com. Also, if you are going to shoot the Sig X5 Tactical in competition, I strongly recommend getting the after market magwell made by Dan Woodard (he is a member of this forum, goes by "Staudacher"). It's an all metal, high quality magwell. It's a larger magwell. You just slide off the Sig magwell and slide on the Woodard magwell. It's a very tight, very secure fit. You can PM him from this website. Well worth it. If you need pics I'd be happy to post some for you.
  17. I own several Sigs, including X-5's as well as standard P226's. I shoot a Sig P226 X-5 L1 .40 in Limited and an X-5 All Around 9mm in Production. For the X-5 L1, I have mag extensions built by Roger Sherman, the Mousetrap mags, and a magwell built by Dan Woodard. Both the mag extensions and the magwell are made of high quality material and well engineered. They've been through a lot of competitions and are holding up great. I added the mag extensions to both Sig and Mecgar mags. I kept the stock spring and follower in the mag and just added the extensions. Works great. I've also added Dawson Fiber Optic front sights to my X-5's. And yes, I use a Blade-Tech DOH. It's a great all around package. The extended mags will work with any of my P226's.
  18. This is a common problem. It's extremely easy to fix. I just replaced one on my XDm. There are some videos you can watch on youtube that show you how. If you have a punch set it will take you five minutes. I ordered mine from Pistol Gear. I think it was $2 and a much stronger tolerance than the factory pin.
  19. I have to believe, and I'm just speculating, that the world class shooters (and I'm not referring to all M's or GM's, but instead the world class shooters, the very best of the best) are getting paid pretty darn well by their sponsors (way into six figures when you add up all their sponsorships). But again, you are talking about just a handful of shooters in the world; the shooters at the very top of their field. And they should be paid well. Look at the what Travis Tomasie has done for Para, Max Michel for Sig, Rob Leatham for Springfield, Jessie Duff for Taurus, Dave Sevigny formerly for Glock and now for FNH (I heard Glock dropped Sevigny for Michelle Viscusi..just kidding, just kidding!), and that's just naming a few of the worlds best. Do you think a discontinued gun by Beretta would have much appeal if it wasn't used by Ben Stoeger? And I've read Ben just prefers to use the Beretta Elite II and isn't sponsored by them to use their discontinued model, which does more to drive up the value of used Elite II's going on gunbroker than if he was getting paid to use them. So if Ben isn't getting paid by Beretta, he should be.
  20. I would also love to be able to buy a complete 5.25" upper, or at least the 5.25" slide, so I can convert my XDm9 5.25" to .40s&w. Or, I'm sure many people would like to convert their 4.5" XDm to a 5.25" XDm just by swapping out the uppers.
  21. I also bid on the Max 1911 on gunbroker. But I didn't win the bidding. So apparently, like the Sig P227, there are a few out in the market, but only a few. At the NRA convention at the Sig booth they were giving away a free Sig P227 in a drawing. I'm interested in both the Sig Max 1911 and the P227.
  22. How do you give advice to someone who is married to one of the world's top shooters? I would rather ask you for advice.
  23. At one time I had a Para P16-40 Limited. Had some questions about it that I posted on another forum. Travis Tomasie responded to my inquiries, and he even started a PM conversation with me regarding my other questions. I was really impressed by that. With Travis input the last few years with the new builds with Para and his involvement with customer service, I would have no issues buying Para's new guns. On grabagun.com website, they have the Para USA Pro Custom 16-40 listed for $1217.86. They have the Para USA Tomasie Custom 16-40 listed for $1677.50. There is not a picture or a description given with either gun on the website, so I couldn't tell you what the difference is between the two. And both guns were out of stock, as was just about any other brand and model of gun.
  24. Travis Tomasie just won the Area 6 Limited div championship using this gun. Of course I'm sure it has been tuned and modified per his specs. But a great way to promote the gun! http://www.shootingwire.com/story/286379
  25. Very good info. I appreciate everyone's input.
