  1. Zoomy, thanks for that info. That is what I was hoping for with just a hammer spring swap to 17#.
  2. JAFO, thanks for the input. I've also thought about sending my USPSA model P226 to Bruce, but not sure if I can justify the cost as it's not my primary Production gun. My primary Production gun is a Sig X5 All Around that had the trigger worked on by Sig's custom shop. The USPSA model is my back up Production gun. That, and I really, really like shooting that USPSA model. I was hoping by just changing out the hammer spring to a 17# would make it noticeably better, but obviously not anywere near where it would be if I sent it out to Bruce Gray.
  3. Have any of you P226 owners swapped out your hammer spring for a lighter spring? I'm thinking of changing the stock hammer spring on my P226 USPSA model to lighten the DA/SA trigger pull weight of the gun. And if you have swapped out the stock hammer spring on the P226 for a 17# hammer spring, have you measured the pull of the DA/SA trigger? Is it a noticeable difference? The springs are cheap and I've ordered a few 17# and 18# from Wolff and so I will be able to tell for myself when they come in. But, I don't have the tool to measure my trigger pull weight. Thanks for your input.
  4. I believe its a Dawson Precision magwell.
  5. I'm really intrigued by some new gun offerings coming out very soon. First of all, I love my Sigs (compete with an X-Five L1 in Limited, and an X-Five All Around in Production), and I will be definitely getting a Sig P227 .45acp when it's available (mags come in 10 round or extended 14 rd capacity). It will be my new home defense gun. I'm also really interested in the FNS 9mm Competiton with the 5" barrel. From what I understand Sevigny had a lot of input in it's design. The Walther PPQ M2 with the 5" barrel also has my interest. I've read some reviews that is has a very short reset trigger. And lastly, the Arsenal Strike One claims to have the fastest cycle time. Looks to be well thought out and designed well. I'm glad to see several new pistols enter the market that I might want to consider for competition use. I like to see companies keep trying to raise the bar.

    Long Slide

The X-Five slides won't work on a standard P226. The dust cover isn't long enough. The guide rod and spring are somewhat exposed. I know, I put one of my X-Five slides on a standard P226 frame hoping it would fit. It didn't.
  7. I ordered mine from Midway USA. Might want to try them for the standard sized Mag Release. And as much as I love the extended mag release on the Competition and L1 X5's, they do tend to create a lot of dropped mags. Completely eliminated the problem when I swapped out with a standard size.

    Sig P210

Dave, you might be out of luck with that question. I think most Sig competition shooters are shooting the X-Five or X-Six. I shoot the X-Five L1 in USPSA Limited and the X-Five All Around in Production. But, I've never heard or read anything but good comments about the P210. I personally have no experience with one, but would love to shoot one someday to compare to my X-5's.
  9. Pre-travel is adjustable in the L1.. as is the position of the trigger and the weight. Just don't overdo it or it will "bind" the safety (don't ask how I know that..). I thought the same thing when I read the post about the pre-travel on the X-5 L1, that why would that be an issue when it has an adjustable trigger and you can virtually eliminate most all of the pre-travel?
  10. If you do have extractor problems with the X-5 All Around 9mm contact Bruce Gray at www.grayguns.com. Definitely one of the best Sig Armorers in the business. Bruce has come up with an extractor fix for the problems associated with the X-5 All Around 9mm extractor. But as you said, hopefully you dodge the extractor nightmares and it's good to go.
  11. Jaxshooter, you are correct. X5 slides will not fit standard P 226 frame. I've put my X5 Comp model slide on one of my standard P226's and the dust cover isn't long enough. It exposes the guide rod spring. However, a standard P226 slide works just fine on X5 frame. Works on both my X5 All Around and X5 Comp.
  12. I'd like to see some pics of that if you don't mind posting some. The P226 you describe has me intrigued. Thanks.

    Sig X5 vs Sig X6

I own three different X-5's; the All Around 9mm (DA/SA), the Competition model .40s&w (SA only), and the L1 model .40s&w (SA only). The only difference between the Competition model and the L1 is that the L1 has an adjustable trigger. It comes with a tool that allows you to adjust the distance, pull weight, and stop. It's really sweet. I have Roger Sherman extended basepads that allow me to get 17 in the mag of .40s&w. I have 6 mags with the Roger Sherman extended basepads. They are all metal, very durable and high quality basepads. In 4 of the mags I get 17 rounds, in 2 of the mags I get 18 rounds. Capacity puts me at a slight disadvantage to the guys running double stack 2011's in limited div as they can fit a few more in the mag, but I still prefer my X-5 over say an STI Edge (and I also own an Edge). I also have a Dan Woodard X-5 magwell on my Competition model and L1 model. It's a much better magwell than the Sig factory magwell. The Roger Sherman extended basepads will fit on any standard Sig P226 mag from Sig or Mecgar. And it's not any issue at all to adjust the Mecgar +2 basepads. I've done it to 8 of them. All I did was take it to my $50 grinder and just ever so slightly grind the upper sides of the basepad down. And now they work just fine and cost less than half of what the X-5 factory mags cost that only hold 14 rounds of .40s&w. I own several 1911's and a few 2011's, and the X-5 is the best pistol I've ever owned. And, I've never shot the X-6 so I can't comment on that model.

    P226 USPSA

HIggins, I would have liked to pick up another stainless steel USPSA model for my collection (I pm'ed the guy too about the USPSA model!), but I'm glad you got it. You will really like it. The Sig USPSA models come with Warren Tactical Rear sights and Dawson Fiber Optic front sights. However, the sights are 0.180 tall. I just couldn't get them to work accurately for me. SIg's are sighted in with a combat target sight vs a 6 0'clock. But, with the 0.180 tall front it still kept shooting low. So, I swapped them out with a 0.170 front sight and now its spot on at 20 yards. I've read this is a common issue with the Sig USPSA model and many swap out the front with a 0.170 or 0.160. The sights on my X-5's are stock sights. The rear sights are adjustable. I plan on swapping out the front sight with a Dawson Fiber optic front sight. Since I took the pic above of the X-5's, I put a Dawson FO front 0.170 on the Competition model. Works great. Haven't done it yet with the L1 or All Around, but will do so soon.

    P226 USPSA

Oh yeah, I caught the Signess! Besides my USPSA models, here are my three X-5's (top is L1 .40s&w, middle is Competition model .40s&w, and bottom is All Around 9mm). I use the L1 in USPSA Limited Division, and the All Around in Production. I have Sherman extended basepads for use in Limited Div. that allow 17+1.

    P226 USPSA

Higgins, no I don't know what they weigh. They don't weigh as much as the X-Five All Around. I also own one of those and I can tell just by holding both of them. Of course the X-Five has the 5" barrel. I have to admit I prefer the X-Five All Around ever so slightly to the USPSA model. Primarily because of the longer barrel and because the model I bought (bought it used) had the trigger worked on by Sig's custom shop.

    P226 USPSA

They aren't easy to find as Sig no longer makes them. I've got two of them and I love them. They have a Warren Tactical rear sight and a Dawson fiber optic front. Stainless steel guide rod, not the hollow out guide rod on a standard P226. Crazy accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. Obviously they were meant for Production division. But with the Sig P226 X-Five All Around, that is now the gun Sig is making for Production division. They actually came out with two models of the USPSA. One has the stainless steel frame (as mine do in the pics), and the other had a lighter alloy metal frame. Don't mean to rub it in, but here are my two USPSA stainless steel frame models. There are a couple of Sig forums that you can check regularly, as once in a great while one will come up for sale. They don't last long when they do.

    Sig 226

You can, however, use a COMPLETE UPPER in .40s&w, .357sig, and 9mm on the P226 frame of any of those 3 calibers. The P226 uses the ssme frame for all 3 calibers. Sig sells complete uppers called their "X-Change" kits.

    Sig owner

Welcome to the forum. I own several Sigs and love them all. What model or models do you own? Do you compete with any of them?
  20. That hasn't been my experience. Just the opposite. I had Bob Serva at Fusion build me a complete 6" upper .45acp that I had a local gunsmith then fit to a Les Baer frame. I also own a Fusion Pro Series Tactical Elite that was completely built by Bob at Fusion. Both guns run with great precision and with no malfunction issues. I couldn't be happier with them.
  21. If you are coming from Indiana, you might want to stay in South Jacksonville, IL. They have several nice hotels and are just off the interstate (I-72). Its a decent drive, about 45 miles East of PASA Park. Jacksonville has plenty of shopping and eating establishments. And, South Jacksonville is East of Pasa Park (Barry, IL) so it might be more convenient coming from Indiana. If you drive to Quincy, you would have to go another 35 miles past PASA Park heading West. Quincy is a very nice historic town with some nice hotels, shopping, and eating establishments (about 35 miles NW of PASA Park), but again, South Jacksonville might be a little more convenient if coming from Indiana (45 miles East of PASA Park). Another alternative would be to stay in Hannibal, MO, which is due West of PASA Park by 23 miles. It's also very nice, historic and scenic town. Has a few nice hotels, places to eat, etc. It's the home of Mark Twain and is popular with tourists. There is no place to stay in Barry, IL (home of PASA Park). It is a very small town just off of I-72. Has a couple convenience stores and a Wendy's just off the interstate. And that's about it. I live about an hour East of PASA Park.
  22. I have one for sale: http://www.brianenos...opic=162187&hl= Am somewhat local to you so if you would like to come see it/handle it, let me know. It also looks like the X5 you have for sale is the L1 model, which has an adjustable trigger. So to tune the trigger you don't need to send it off to a gunsmith or do any work yourself. You just use the tool that came with the Sig X5 L1 and you easily and quickly adjust the trigger to your liking with trigger weight, pretravel, and reset. I also have an X5 L1 model (in addition to my X5 Competition model) and it's really sweet.
  23. If you are mainly concerned with recoil, see if you can find a Sig X5 .40 Competition to shoot. Its a heavier, all steel gun. In Limited, I shoot the X5 even though I own a Dawson Precision STI Edge. I definitely prefer my X5 to my Edge. I get better results and performance. The only downside is capacity. With extended basepads with .40s&w I get 17+1. But the X5 is crazy accurate and eats recoil. For the record, I also at one time shot an xdm40 5.25. Excellent gun! But the results I get in Limited are much better with X5 and Edge.
  24. Yeah, I've had the finger groove grips on these 1911's for quite awhile. For me they really work great. I prefer them over the G10 grips I've tried. I've got big hands so they enlarge the grip area for me which helps me get a better grip.
