It's pretty simple. If I recall correctly they just need the name, DOB and address of everyone attending. They run their check and add you to the access list. When you get to the facility, they check the list and give you an access card. Not too bad. I would expect an email in the next week or so with instructions on how they plan to execute all of that. As Jesse pointed out, Charles is probably wrapped up with the 3GN match and he's got the Hiper Fire match closing in quickly too. Anyone that's attended a match Charles runs can tell you that everything will fall in to place. For ammo, I plan on bringing 300 pistol, 300 rifle, 200 bird and 40 slugs. That's my standard load out for a major match and I've never run into an issue of not having enough ammo. I also always bring a sling for both long guns, it's just easier that way. My guess is that we'll need slings for rifles, not sure that we'll need them for shotgun. I'm also planning to work from my vehicle. Academi is huge, there will be room. Nothing I've heard from Charles indicates any scenario where you are carrying all your kit or anything like that.

I wouldn't expect any round counts or stage descriptions until much closer to the match. I'll let Charles know about the dead link. I talked to Charles recently about adding a couple of unique divisions that will be friendly towards folks using issued equipment. I'll wait for Charles to iron out the details before saying too much, but I am fairly confident that body armor will be required to compete in those divisions. A few things I believe you'll see in this match... 1. A focus on accuracy beyond the normal 3GN rules. 2. Slings on rifles and transitions required. 3. Blind stage(s) 4. More emphasis on pistol and rifle than shotgun. 5. Physical challenges... These will be avoidable to those who aren't comfortable doing them, but with penalty. 6. Some cool props and unique shooting positions that are challenging, but fun. There is opportunity to shoot long distance at Academi. Longest distance won't be known until the stages are set, but I'd be ready to shoot 400yds. Don't sweat the details too much. Charles always gets the word out in time. This will be a fun match that has a slightly different flavor than the normal drag races. We all know Charles, his staff, and the Academi staff will make it fun and challenging for everyone. All my comments are just educated guesses... Nothing binding, I'm not the Match Director!

It's not classified as a supporting device in 3GN rules. My opinion is a supporting device holds up a rifle without your hands on it. My opinion doesn't matter. I'm not the match director. Is there any issue with using a Silo in Tac Ops? I've heard rumor that it will be allowed as a barricade brace, but you won't be allowed to support the rifle on it- similar to the ruling on vertical foregrips in the past years. I'd rather not take mine off, but I don't want to play in Open!

What rule set is this match following? I looked at the match page and couldn't find anything. I know scoring is different, but will equipment follow the 3GN Practical division rules?

I spoke to Charles this week and everything is still on. No drama, just busy lives. There should be a registration announcement "soon". I understand the frustration and wish I could give you a concrete date. All I can say is that a lot of work is going in to making this inaugural event something special for everyone. It should be worth the wait.

Jim- I certainly understand, and appreciate you keeping the dates open. I know they were targeting the beginning of May to open up registration. If all goes according to plan, something should be online within the next couple of weeks. Everything is looking good for the match and there have been no setbacks to my knowledge. All lights are still green, it's just a matter of making registration smooth, inclusive, and painless!

Talked in a PM to answer this one, but to anyone else that may be apprehensive about the physical aspect of the match: It is not our intent to make this match so physically demanding that it excludes anyone. If there are portions that you cannot complete, there will likely be a penalty comparable to what it would take someone to complete that portion assigned. For example, you need to drag a dummy from a vehicle to a safe zone and you can't physically do it- it takes an in shape person 10 seconds and an out of shape person 20 seconds, the penalty would probably be 30 seconds to account for the time it takes to do the event and the exhaustion factor added in. You may not win, but you'll still be able to shoot and have fun. Charles will be the match director. He will make the ruling on this stuff, but it's certainly something we've considered.

No update, Jim. I know it's not fun waiting for a registration to open. We want it to be smooth and inclusive, it's taking some effort to get it right the first time.

It will be different from BRM3G, but still challenging. Rock Castle has natural terrain that just isn't available at Academi. Academi has shoot houses and urban facades that aren't available at Rock Castle. We'll look for ways to challenge folks- ladders, stairs, sled drags, rucks, maybe some sposor provided body armor on a stage, etc... More military stress course style stuff. There will be a physical aspect to the match, but not the total mileage and hill hikes of BRM3G.

Good questions, thanks! I checked with Academi and guns are fine in the lodge, they just have to be unloaded. No requirement to lock up personally owned firearms in the armory. Quiet hours in the lodge start at 2300. If you want to be loud and party, there may be a place on site for that, but it won't be in the lodge where others are trying to rest. There are plenty of other hotels nearby that you'll be able get a match rate on, you don't have to stay at the lodge. Ranges also have to be cold before the beer lamp is lit. EVERY PERSON THAT ENTERS ACADEMI MUST BE ON THE ACCESS LIST, TO INCLUDE SPECTATORS, MINORS AND VENDORS!!!! You do have to stop on entry and be checked against the access list, there will be extra staff on hand to make this process as efficient as possible. That is one reason that sign up hasn't gone live yet, Charles and crew are trying to make the process smooth so you don't have to submit multiple forms. The check they do is not very intrusive. If you can legally own a firearm, you're good to go. If you can't legally own a firearm, you are not allowed on the site. Pretty simple. Absolutely open to all! Academi has a minimum age requirement of 12 for SHOOTERS. Spectators of all ages are welcome, provided they are on the access list and have eye & ear protection. I'm not sure how hosting a major 3-Gun match (and donating all the ranges used for free) can be perceived as not supporting the shooting sports? I miss the monthly matches at Academi too, you aren't alone there. Those matches got me, and many others, started in this sport. Academi made a business decision based on the metrics they had in front of them, it wasn't personal. I'd love to see the monthly matches come back, and hopefully this event triggers some discussion that leads to more matches being held at Academi. Instead of looking at it negatively, look at this as a chance to shoot at Academi again. While you're there, feel free to take the opportunity to tell the staff how much you enjoyed this match, and let them know you'd love to see those monthly matches come back. I know Charles is on the road towards this weekends regional, so I'll chime in a bit. I've been working with Charles and the Navy SEAL Foundation to get this match together for quite some time now. You can safely put this match on your calender, it's going to happen. Academi has some unique requirements that Charles is working through to make the sign up process smooth and all-inclusive so they aren't chasing people down for information and waivers. Sign up may not happen for a few more weeks, but it will happen! The details are being finalized, and everything is on track for a great match. With the combined efforts of the Navy SEAL Foundation, Charles Sole and Academi, this match (and prize table) is going to be absolutely top notch. The facility is phenomenal, the cause is honorable, and the folks putting this all together are investing a lot of time and energy in to making sure this is an event people will not want to miss. As for stages, expect some things outside the normal drag race. There will be a physical aspect to the match, but it will be doable by all. Bad knees, bad backs should still sign up (just bring some Motrin). Academi has some great shoot houses, cool props, and the opportunity to shoot long ranges on more than one stage. It's going to be fun, and challenging, for all. Rifle slings will be needed.
