  1. Yeah, I hear ya. Getting pretty sick of lying in bed at night and hearing "when you wish upon a star....."
  2. I thought this was a USPSA match, for chrissakes! Let's leave the whole speedloader stunt to the other disciplines and play our game the way it's supposed to be played. What's next? Single-actions? Cap 'n' ball revolvers? C'mon guys, let's shoot to win
  3. No way to know for sure without an official ruling from NROI, but I would not expect that to be considered an external modification, and furthermore I can't imagine anybody complaining about somebody tilting against windmills in Production with a revolver anyway. Virtually all 627 8-shots are factory cut for moonclips--the sole exception is the 4" standard barrel version that came out a couple years ago, and those are only rarely encountered. Just keep in mind you can't list Production as a back-up plan in case you accidentally slip and fire a 7th shot. You'll go straight to Open, whether your gun satisfies Production equipment rules or not. That's just the way it works. Best solution? Run a 6-round revo for USPSA/IPSC, ideally one that can make major power factor with reasonable comfort.
  4. Let me just answer that question right now: It's Jerry Miculek. Hands down.
  5. I think it would have been a much better actual test of shooting skill if they had not required the use of all the "issued" equipment (some of which was obviously junk), and instead had the competitors bring their own stuff. For example, everybody shows up with (1) one semi-auto shotgun, (2) one scoped bolt action center-fire rifle, (3) one semi-auto rifle, (4) one centerfire handgun, (5) one rimfire handgun, (6) one rimfire rifle, and all the various ammo and stuff. Then they are presented with a bunch of surprise shooting challenges which could be accomplished with one or more of those firearms. The way they did it the first season, the competitors had to spend way too much time figuring out where the guns were hitting, which gun was the "good one," and that sort of thing. My way, everybody's stuff would presumably be sighted in correctly and functioning properly. No whining about equipment. And some of the luck factor we saw this year would be removed. The best shooters would actually do the best, and the winner could truly claim to be Top Shot. Of course, that would sorta take away from the historical aspect of the program, which is the connection to the History Channel in the first place.
  6. Sounds to me like you might need to hang onto the gun harder.
  7. Not really....generally a whole new top end, ejector and mags. R, 9mm and .40 use the same ejector. A switch-top between 9mm and .40 can make sense. You can put together a second top end quite a bit cheaper than buying or building a whole new gun. With the 9mm/.40 combination, because the ejector is in the same location, you can simply pull the slide stop and switch top ends in just a few seconds. Some folks here might remember my thread about the switch-top Armscor wide-body pistol I made up a few years ago. Same concept.
  8. You can Carmonize the hammer on a centerfire J-frame to good effect. Not so with the rimfires. J-frames have a coil mainspring. They tune up pretty nicely, but the actions aren't generally as good as those you can get with the larger frame models.
  9. Don't forget this informative thread: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=47442&hl=techwell&st=0
  10. My daughter shot a 4" S&W 617 10-shot at steel matches when she was still in junior high. She did just fine with it, and she's a small-statured girl. It's much easier to shoot well with a K-frame, even for those with smaller hands. That would be my vote. Plus--you can use it too!
  11. As your legal counselor, I believe I get to take a certain amount of credit for that.
  12. Be warned....317s have an extremely heavy trigger pull and are very hard to shoot well in DA mode. Even in competent hands,317s are not known for being terribly accurate. I was not able to reduce the DA pull on mine very much. As much as I love revolvers, I'm afraid you could be setting her up for a lot of frustration. (Unless that is your goal!)
  13. Nice job, Cliff. Lots of irritating noise lately. That should quiet them down for awhile.
  14. They look good to me. The guy who makes them obviously has competition experience. They look well-designed and fast. For the money, I don't think you can go too far wrong!
  15. Hey, I'm a huge XD fan! When I'm not shooting my revos, I really enjoy shooting Production. Having owned and used most of the popular options at various times (including a Glock 34 and a custom CZ SP-01), I find the 5" XD-9 is my favorite Production gun by far. I own both a Springfield Custom Shop conversion and a Canyon Creek custom job, and both of them shoot and handle great. I also own a Springfield Custom Shop XDM-40 set up for Limited. My main house gun is a Springfield Custom Shop XD-45 with night sights, and I have three or four other XDs in service as defense pistols. XDs and XDMs are great guns!
  16. It is fairly common to find S&Ws that have been similarly worked to create a shorter hammer arc. It is also fairly common that their owners don't care for the heavier action, questionable carry-up, and stacky feel that this modification (factory or aftermarket) tends to create. I have encountered several situations where the owners want the altered parts replaced to return things to their original geometry. Tread cautiously.
  17. It's a superfluous part. You want zero forward tension on the bolt, it should not be pushing on the centerpin significantly or it will impede cylinder rotation (to at least some extent). I used to remove the little spring and plunger altogether. Now I generally cut the spring down and leave them in, just to prevent it from rattling around when the cylinder is open. Don't worry about it.
  18. Life is full of stuff to worry about. Fortunately, this ain't one of them.
  19. "The happiness house with the young ladies of the evening"? (Sounds to me like my original translation is spot-on!) So if I understand this correctly, we have selected a friendly Memphis brothel as the charity benefactor of this year's match.......right?
  20. Yep, you can shoot a 7- or 8-round revolver in L-10 or Production. You can shoot a gun with higher capacity in Revolver Division (as long as it meets the other equipment criteria--(basically, no ports/comps or optical sights)--you just can't fire more than 6 shots between reloads.
