  1. Not under federal law. Some state and local jurisdictions might feel differently, I suppose.
  2. A 16 rd (2 cylinders full) group would be more meaningfull. My 627-5 with 6" PC barrel puts my short load into 5" at 50 yds. No bragging rights there, but my 6" 14-7 will put the same load into 2". Go figure. Both rested with optics. So be it, it will be 2 cylinders full all in the name of science. Now if I could get Carmoney's Ransom Rest that would be the real test. You're welcome to borrow my Rest anytime!
  3. He won the skirt at Iowa. It was handmade by Mrs. FFL. This is not the first match Cliff has worn it. I believe he likes the feeling of....(ahem)....freedom....(cough)....that the skirt provides.
  4. Message response sent. For everyone else's benefit: I do action work on Ruger DA revolvers occasionally, but I'm not set up to machine cylinders for moonclips. Tom Kilhoffer is the guy I use and recommend for cutting cylinders for moonclips.
  5. I'd recommend installing a new cylinder stop, and make sure you replace the cylinder stop spring while you're at it. Since you've already dressed down the little ledges at the bottom of the ramps, that should fix the problem. Same exact thing happened to me at Area 3 this year. Switched to my backup gun, but it killed that stage for me. Gun is fine now--I will be shooting it at Nationals in a couple weeks.
  6. Looks like I'm going to make it after all!!!!! Who else is taking a wheelgun to Vegas?
  7. I have had excellent accuracy with Short Colts in my guns, and have not lost anything appreciable even at 50 yards. Perhaps it varies from gun to gun. I'm running a 6.5" 27-7 Bangers 8-shot, and a 5" 627PC with no special throating treatment.
  8. I have a whole pile of mixed .45 moonclips that I began accumulating when I bought my first 25-2 back in 1987. I have no doubt most of my original supply of moonclips is still included in that mix. I've bent a few, but I'm not aware that I've ever worn one out!
  9. I converted from Specials to Short Colts a couple years ago. I think the advantages mentioned above are real. None of them (in and of itself) is a huge issue, but you add several little advantages together and it becomes meaningful. I'm sure my reloads, on average, are slightly faster with Short Colts. Moreover, I don't think anyone has ever presented a real downside to using the Short Colts--other than cost and availability of the brass, I suppose.
  10. Bob Perdue.....they don't call him the Mad Genius of Revolver Division for nothing.
  11. Now y'all come and defend that title at the Memphis Charity Challenge in November.
  12. Looks good to me, Bro! I reload the other way most of the time, keeping the gun in my strong hand. But the way you do it works well for Jerry, Cliff, and Ricky also, so you're in excellent company.
  13. With all due respect, you guys need to get the notion out of your heads that small-handed women have to be given J-frames. Take another look at my daughter Jill in the pictures above--that's a 4" K-frame w/underlug she's shooting, and yes she won the junior event that year at the Missouri Steel Championships. Your wives' hands are not smaller than hers when that photo was taken, OK? If that doesn't convince you, consider Molly Smith (pictured below), who shoots her full-size N-frame 627s well enough to be made a member of Smith & Wesson's competition team. I will guarantee you that none of your wives have hands smaller than Molly's.
  14. Wow, they had 847 shooters total at this match? Pretty amazing. Nice job Cliff--it's not easy coming back that strong after getting off to a shaky start.
  15. God I wish they would throw that friggin' JT off this board so I didn't have to read his moronic posts. Of course Brian is in some foggy Zen state most of the time these days, and his stooge Kyle is too busy grooming his Hitler mustache....so it probably will never happen. <Ctl-A> <Delete>
  16. Paris is best when her mouth is full and she can't talk. Gotta wonder about the cops stopping the Escalade because "they smelled a vapor trail of marijuana smoke." Makes you wonder if maybe the plea deal was reached because the prosecutors knew there were probable cause issues.
  17. Are you talking about actually coating the inside of your chambers with lube? If so--terrible idea. In fact, in high-pressure firearms, it's a dangerous practice. Every time you fire a cartridge, the case expands and contacts the chamber walls. The friction and pressure momentarily holds the case in place, until the expanding gases escape the cartridge and flow backward outside the case, releasing the seal. Oiling the chambers prevents that friction seal from occurring as designed, and this directs all the recoil energy directly backward into the breech face, instead of allowing the rest of the chamber to partially disperse the force.
  18. I'm mostly installing the Weigand rear blades with SDM fiber-optic front sights, with a few Protocall and EGW front signts mixed in here and there.
  19. If you like a thin .100" FO sight, take a look at those offered by Warren Moore on his Protocall Design dealer forum here. I run a contoured Hogue extended thumb latch on my competition revos. This is purely an area of personal preference, though. My son hates any of the extended releases, and much prefers the stock part.
