  1. I have never experience anything like you describe from my gun and as a side note a machinist buddy of mine is tinkering with comp design so I have also shot about 15-18 different comps this year as well. Maybe its a tumor?
  2. BTW you can all thank me for asking the question. I was totally surprised to see the factory +p+ 9 answer. Wow. I wonder what kind of deal we could get if we ordered it in bulk?
  3. Rmills, In my experience trying to get a rules decision from headquarters is akin to pulling teeth out of a hippo. I understand that after almost 4 years there are going to be some out of date rules, but almost any organization I have been a part of has been able to figure out how to rewrite a 50 page book every 1-2 years. For hell sakes IDPA could at least update the webpage. IMHO it is a poor excuse for an organization to impart on its members the responsibility of chasing down the lates rules. Not to mention how do I give out a procedural or enforce a rule with respect to a relatively new shooter who is following the LGB but has not become savvy enough to carry around a notebook of updates. Craig
  4. Personally I really like Greg's stuff from Comp-tac. If you want a less expensive option G-code mag pouches for the Glock 21 work great as well.
  5. I'm with Steve, there are plenty of other high quality vendors that don't lose as many orders in a year as have been "lost" in this thread. The bonus is you get what you pay for when you order it and get to use it when you planned. A fifth magpouch when I only need 4 doesn't cover that.
  6. rmills, With all due respect you say IDPA is a different set of rules, yet you quote Ken's Corner for the rules. Ken's Corner is not the LGB and therein lies the problem of objectivity. Too many times an FTDR or procedural is given based on what someone has read in a magazine/interpreted/been told/dreampt up/etc. As an active IDPA shooter (I actually shoot both IDPA and USPSA) I see this as a problem our sport needs to address. If IDPA wants to be different than USPSA so be it, but the subjective interpretation/application of the rules is going to continue to haunt us until we fix our own house. Also IMHO if the prevailing attitude of "IDPA is different, if you don't like it tough &*^%. " continues, we will be sending a negative message to those who would normally try and possibly continue to support the organization. Take care, Craig
  7. Kevin, FWIW I have used both Kytac and Comp tac. As far as mag pouches are concerned, I can't tell a difference. My preference for Comp tac's stuff comes from their customer service being head and shoulders above kytac's notorious 50/50 customer service. Not to mention that new chainmail finish is GOOD LOOKIN! Craig
  8. As a side note, never forget to check the charging handle channel. I was experiencing occasional shortstroking, FTE's, etc. and after chasing around the gas system and bolt/bolt carrier for abnormalities, we finally found that the charging handle had an ever so slight bend. (must have bent it during malf. drills?) When the gas key would hit it jsut right it slowed the bolt carrier enough for a malfunction. Take care, Craig
  9. I will recommend Greg at Comp-tac eight days a week. One of the highest quality products out there if not number one, and their customer service is absolutely excellent. Good Luck, Craig
  10. You might want to try Frank at Cen-Dex He makes a series of holsters called the Storm which have the drop offset feature. Check out his Carbon Fibre and Ice holsters as well. Craig
  11. Nick, I don't mean to be throwing a wrench in your decision making process, but I recently started experimenting with a low power variable. I started with an Eotech mounted on my flattop and loved it until I ran into stages with shots in the 250+ range. I bought a cheap little Tasco 1x4 shotgun scope with the Turkey reticle to play with to help decide if I wanted magnification or not. I have found that having the ability to dial up a little closeness with the magnification is absolutely necessary and the no magnification still allows for the hoser stages. Ultimately I think the setup would consist of a variable piece of glass as the main optic with either JP irons setup for limited or a red dot for open on the foregrip. As a side note I shot one of Trijicon's Accupoints this weekend and was very impressed. There is the magnification you would want and essentially what appears to your eye as a dot reticle. Good luck, Craig
  12. Get your hands on Midway's latest catalog. There is an excellent article on gunsmithing schools as well as shorter classes 2-3 day, 2week etc.
  13. on my way to the range right now with hornady xtp in .355 and some of the same with wsr I'll get back to you later and let you know what the chrony says
  14. After your earlier post is the first time I have been aware of the EO without the metal cage. So to be honest with you I can't say for sure. When I was researching the Eo before I bought mine Eo was very deliberate in pointing out that they manufactured the Bushnell but the Bushnell was not built to the same specs as the EO's. It was built to Bushnell's spec in order to meet a price point. My assumption is that Eo made a model without the cage to save weight. The metal caged Eo's are noticeably heavier. Whether or not the 502 has the EO's internals and shockproofing vs. having the Bushnell's is something you may want to drop a line to EO about. I do know this. The Bushnell is not the same internally as EO's 510/550 models. As a matter of fact after seeing a couple of the bushy's in action they are not in the same league as the EO's. I was at Gunsite for 556 and two guys with department issue Bushnells (they are the same) had them torn off and in the trunk by day two because they could not get them to stay zeroed. That was with the sight on the weapon, no removal.
  15. Dave, I always thought EO had not made a model without the metal hood. But I just went to Eo's webpage and saw they have a 502 model which does not have the metal hood/mount. I have not seen this before and maybe it is being offered as a price point option for the better electronics without the weight of the hood. Maybe it will prove to be an alternative to cmores. All of the 510/550 models have the cage/mount. The difference is the 550's are NV compatible. Here's the link Eotech You can see the Bushnell's and the Eo's there. Craig
  16. Flex Yes, his load suggestion was 125gr Zero (.355) 8.0gr of Power Pistol loaded to 1.17 with WSP primer. Paul Whitacre is shooting this in his gun and is very happy with it. In shooting it for testing I like the way the gun behaves. I was just concerned about having a 100fps velocity spread in a ten round string. I have loaded a lot of .40 and my load only varies 10-15fps with standard deviations in the low single digits. I just want to be careful as I go up this Open gun learning curve. It seems there are quite a few more variables to keep track of.
  17. Sean, In this case there is a big difference in the products. The electronics, and shockproofing are quite a bit different between the two. As far as the protective hood goes, it is all steel on the eo and is integral to the mount so that alone is exponentially better than the bushnell. The mount makes the Eo very repeatable with respect to return to zero and the bushnell is a nightmare. IMHO the few extra dineros is well worth it in this case and I am a pretty cheap bastard. Vlad, awesome choice, you won't be disappointed. Craig
  18. I have a factory SVI set up with a Bar-Sto bushing barrel short dustcover and SVI magwell that meets all the regs for IDPA ESP and also Limited10/Limited. For a good example go to Matt Burketts web page and look at his Cross Competitor. answers 1) My gun feeds almost anything. Most of the S-I guns like the ammo loaded longer but mine feeds ammo with lengths from 1.12-1.20 just fine. As far as accuracy goes the loadings I have tried have all been extremely accurate. Currently for 125pf I am shooting 180 gr MG bullets over 3.6gr of Titegroup loaded about 1.17. 2) With the 126mm mags and SVI international basepads to be IDPA compliant there seems to be no way to get the mag in that far. If you are using 140mm mags then I would check to see if the mag catch opening was correct. Probably a gunsmith fix. Also getting the slide to lock back will involve either the stock followers or Grams spring and follower kit. The grams work very well for me. Also make sure someone has not cut your slide lock catch on the magazine side of the gun to keep it from locking back. 3) If you are ever thinking of shooting Limited10/Limited stay .40. You can't shoot major in limited with 9mm. As for a minor pf load, .40 at minor is very soft, again do a search and you will find tons of loadings.
  19. After a search I wasn't able to find a direct answer to my question. I am in the process of developing a load for my new open gun in 9x19 and I am working on a load suggested by the Dan Bedell who built my gun. When I chronoed this load (working up of course) my velocities were somewhat erratic and my SD's were big double digits 20-25. Dan had suggested I use a bullet with a .355 diameter. So I ordered 125 gr jhp 9mm form zero that are listed on zeroes site at .355. I just got done measuring 50 samples from 3 different boxes and I have to hand it to zero for making a very consistent bullet, they didn't vary a bit but all were .356. So my question is if my barrel (scheuman ultimatch 9x19 AET) needs .355 bullets would the oversize bullets be causing my velocity problems? thanx in advance, Craig
  20. Rhino, Last night while I was up watching election returns I found for the EO as well. EO tech replacement screw It's down the page a bit. Craig
  21. Rhino since you have the flattop covered here is the arms for carry handles Arms Gooseneck Take care, Craig
  22. Rhino, Some would say I don't have calves, I have cattle......... and they would be right. The CLC pads are the only pads I have tried (I moonlight building homes so I use them for other things than gunnin) that fit my legs without cutting off circulation and are comfortable for a day of flooring install. Go take a look, you won't be disappointed. Craig

  24. Matsumi, Have I got a pair of pads for you. Go to your local Home Depot (personally its like a temple for me) and go to the tool section. There is a brand of knee pads called CLC. There will most likely be three models, you want to go with the high dollar GEL pads. There strap system is made of neoprene and is comfotable for all day wear. They do have a somewhat hard cover on them however it is made of a rubber with a tread to them which makes for a very stable platform when on slick surfaces. It is far better than the plastic (ice skate) caps on other pads. I found these through a tile guy who wears them 10-12 hrs a day and I haven't found anything to compare them to since. As for elbow pads some of the skateboard/rollerblade pads offer good protection but more importantly excellent range of motion. Good luck, Craig
  25. It makes sense to me. BTW, I polished the hell out of my expander with 2000 grit polish by chucking it in my drill and turning it in a tshirt. I have loaded another hundred rds. crimp at .375. the bell is just disappeared with the slightes hint of taper at the case mouth. So far the no set back with thumb pressure. Crossing my fingers for good chrono numbers tomorrow. Thanx for all of the help. Brian, I love this place. Thanx to you as well. Craig
