Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I shot it, and I can only think of one target that disappeared. It was a drop turner that was gas dampened, so it took a looooong time to disapear. I can't imagine anyone not getting enough points on it. There were a lot of other movers at the match but none of them disappeared. If anything there weren't enough FTNs given out. A lot of the SOs weren't up on the new rule requiring a minimum of one "down one" shot to neutralize the target. I'm not complaining though. My biggest complaint was the bottleneck at some of the stages. The last shooters pretty much finished in the dark. I was lucky enough to have the MD give me a shoot through to I could catch a plane. Over all it was a lot of fun and worth the trip.

    S&W Match?

If the copy sent to Headquaters is the same as what I recieved in the mail and is on the website listed above, someone will have to manually sort out the divisions into separate classes before they post them on the website. I've never seen major IDPA match results that were not separated by division and class.

    S&W Match?

I spoke with Peggy today and asked about the results. She said she would be mailing the results to competitors by tomorrow and IDPA headquaters would be receiving them shortly for posting on their web site (when they get posted there - nobody knows) She did not have a current sight for us to look at now.

    S&W Match?

I shot it on Thursday. As usual they put on a realy good match. The folks at the Nationals could learn a lot from the folks up there. There were 10 stages, one of which got thrown out of the final score. It was a surprise stage and apparently by the second day of the match there were cheaters walking around with maps of the target lay out. It's a shame because it was a really good stage. That crew deserves a pat on the back. They used lack of light to mess with us on a lot of stages. It was very easy to lose the sights on a lot of the target arrays, and unfortunatly some of my scores suffered for it. As far a results go I'm dying to know myself. I left on Thursday night and I can't find the results posted anywhere as of yet. I'm going to call Peggy tomorrow.
  5. Matt, What would you suggest for those of us who use belts with big metal studs on them? You know the kind we all where in the SF area. Day light is going to come through no matter what.
  6. At the 2003 Nationals I met Bill Wilson on one of the stages and we had a conversation about some of the fights that I had run into with some SO regarding the letter of the rules. He impressed me as being a reasonable person and was amazed at how some people were being so "anal". I think the issue with the light in the belt tunnel is part of this same problem. The revision of the rules states: "In simple terms, the back of the holster must be held tightly against the outside of the belt for proper concealed carry" This sounds reasonable and the UM holster shown in the example picture is pretty obvious in the gaps and I can see why this holster would not be allowed. The problem arises in the wording of the rule criteria. "Day light" can pass through some pretty small openings, and while I am guessing that Bill Wilson does not want this to happen, I know we will run into SOs nit picking the issue. My response the IDPA will be the suggestion to drop or reword the "day light" wording. I think they did a good job with the mag carrier issue.

    Holsters

I was as shocked and angered as everyone else when I first read the new holster rules. The reasons have all been well hashed out else where. I am signed up to shoot the Winter Nationals next month so I was in a bit of a panic since I heard they are going to apply the new rules. So I set out to see what I could do, and I think there are some silver linings to this cloud. The old holster rules did not allow modifications to holters on the list. The new rules don't seem to limit this. Ky-dex is pretty easy to work with. All it takes is a heat gun and a Leatherman and about 15 minutes of work. The new rules allow the gun to sit lower and have a lower cut at the front of the holster. My Comp-tac locking paddle now appears to fit in the new rules and is actutally a "gamier" holster. Talk about your unitended consequences, eh Mr. Wilson? Now all I have to do is eat a lot and quit the gym to close up the 3/4" at the body.
  8. For holsters - keep the 3/4" from the body rule. It is an objective rule we can live with. Drop the junk about daylight and channels. If you have to look, the holster is visible and the hole concealement thing is out the window. The general rule should be - if your gear is visible you can't shoot. For mag carriers - I like the idea of penalties for falling mags. A DQ might be overly severe. Drop the junk about 50%. It either holds the mags or it doesn't. A retention test might be in order the way that USPSA used to do it. However it may require physical moves that many shooters could not accomplish
  9. Page 27 of the new rule book says: Effective January 1, 2005, the IDPA “Approved Holster List” is no longer in effect and holsters previously listed are NOT necessarily approved for IDPA competition. Anyone who shot a match after the first - make sure your score has a FTDR penalty added. Rules are rules.
  10. Not only has IDPA succeeded in ticking off most of its customers, but it also stepped in it in another place. Has anyone else noticed that the rule book is on the web as an unsigned and unsecured PDF file. I'm no expert but it seems possible that every club and MD could have a different versison the rule book. That ought to be interesting.

    Holsters

The thing that really gets me is all the worry about gaps in silly locations. If they are worried about losing the concealability, why not just have one simple rule about how far off the body the gun can sit. Who cares if light can pass between the belt and holster? Also the mag carriers should be a simple issue of retention. Keep it simple. It either holds the mags or it doesn't. I've used my Comp-Tac holster and carrier for years, with tens of thousands of presentations. I can do a hand stand and the only thing that will hit the ground is the loose change in my pocket. Try that with a leather set up with same number draws.
  12. The new holster rules have me fuming! I've got a Comp-tac holster for everyone of my guns. For years they were honkey dorey, and now they are illegal at the drop of a hat? What kind of way is that to treat you customers. This cannot stand. IDPA had better hit the brakes on this one. I'm going to shoot the Winter Nationals next month. What am I supposed to do? Local gun shops don't carry quality gear. Should I order every f-ing holster under the sun so I can see if one leagaly fits my body and return the rest? The 3/4" inch between the body and gun rule was written by people who eat too much southern cooking. The more personal padding you have the fewer gaps there will be. Time to quite the gym - I've got to stay competetive.
  13. Somebody is just going to have to start producing a line of thick fuzzy belts to fill up the vacant spaces in the channels.
  14. I have been pounding away with Glocks for a few years and have just broken the ice with a SV for the first time. I purchased a used Infinity double stack with a standard dust cover. It is chambered in .40 s&w with a bull barrel. The gun shows almost no sign of wear, and I know the guy I bought is from rarely shot it, so I'm happy with the quality. I shot it for the first time last night and have a couple of questions. 1) the gun seems to be very finicky about ammo. I was lucky to hit the paper with some rounds tumbling down range. Others would group well but didn't want to feed. Is this normal? 2) When doing a slide lock reload, ala IDPA, the mag keeps going up inside the gun until it's stopped by the ejector. How do I fix that? 3) I know I'll have to have a bushing barrel fitted for IDPA. Should I go 9mm with or stick with .40 and load lighter for the 125 pf? I have no Limited gear for holsters or mag pouches, any suggestions would be very much appriciated.
