  1. So --- speaking of 1.2.15 -- What is the proper way of reporting bugs? I had a rather major one yesterday. I went to import shooters from the clubs.practiscore.com registration using the pin #, and the app crashed. When I got back in, I noticed that not only did nothing actually import properly, it also wiped out everything that was in my previous match (the match that wasn't even selected). Luckily, I always backup all of the matches to my iPhone... Needless to say, we'll be running 1.2.12 for the match this weekend. If it worked for A6, it'll work for our local match. Also -- it appears that the online registration still give the default USPSA divisions as Limited (instead of LTD), Limited 10 (instead of LTD10). When I was beta testing 1.2.13, the app didn't like the names being different when I imported using the pin#. I had to go through and correct all shooters manually. For registration this go around, I just entered the names that I know Practiscore wants instead of using any of the pre-populated ones.
  2. No -- I leave them at the Practiscore screensaver. I've left one tablet that way for 6 weeks without it draining completely. Left the others like that for 3 weeks with only a 25-30% drain. I have had bad luck with turning them off completely. Had two not come back up on me once. I had to factory restore and re-root them.
  3. Yes -- sorry --- made sure NOTHING was pressing on the screen or buttons. I edited my OP to correct that typo. The Nooks were not plugged into the chargers. They were sitting in the box as they had been for the past weeks without issue.
  4. For those using NSTs ... have you ever had this happen? I charged up the NSTs when I first got them about 3 weeks ago. I rooted, named them, connected them to the wifi, etc. Then, I put them in a box and didn't mess with them until last Thursday. I pulled them out of the box on Thursday to charge them up, and all had about 70-75% battery left. Charged them all up to 100% and put them back in the box. Spot checked a few on Friday around 5pm, and they were at about 97-98% battery. .... pulled them out of the box about an hour before our Saturday match and 5 of the 6 were at 15% (one was at 95%). Luckily I was able to get them charged up into the 30-40% range before we started shooting. Oddly enough, using them for 4-5 hours on Saturday only dropped the charge by 10%. But, leaving them in the box overnight somehow dropped the charge by 80%? Just for reference, I place them in a box in such a way as to make sure nothing is pressing on the screen or the back button. My only guess is that something was causing them to make sweet wifi-love all night. Lesson learned : Check them first thing in the morning on a match day. I would have had three hours to charge them back up if I had looked at them when I first got to the range.
  5. Unfortunately, our area is completely out locally
  6. FYI : Best Buy has them on clearance right now for $49.99. This is $10 cheaper than they were a week or so ago.
  7. Zack is correct. I placed a call and ordered a large quantity. The customer service rep will be confused, and likely question your sanity --- but, they'll place the order. Also -- If you find a manager at a Barnes and Nobel, they can likely order them for you to. I spoke with a local B&N manager, and he was able to look up some stock in warehouses around the area. He could have had them shipped in for me. It's possible that other B&Ns around the country can get them from local warehouses as well.
  8. I really hope this match happens again, and I was really mad that I couldn't make it. If there is one next year, I'll be there for sure.
  9. The roads on the way to the range should all be paved. The entrance to the range and the parking lot is dirt/gravel. It's pretty well kept. I don't think you would have a problem.
  10. Well -- the only reason that this is a problem is because they have been sitting around in boxes so long that they don't have any charge left on the battery. Still annoying though. And yes --- the NST reset is annoying.
  11. That is a good price. The refurbished units will likely not have the issue that I mentioned above, but they will only have a 90-day warranty as opposed to a 1 year. Something to consider ....
  12. If you are asking about the Nexus (2012) --- it does not have a SD card slot. You can hook it up to a PC/Mac via USB to transfer files to it. For those wanting to purchase a 2012 Nexus --- I want to share with you a problem I experienced. I purchased three from Best Buy about a week ago. Only one out of the three worked when I took them out of the box. The one that worked has a partial charge still on the battery, the other two did not. There is a known issue with these things. The firmware that they shipped with has a bug that doesn't allow the unit to charge once the battery has been completely drained. There is a fix though .... a very annoying fix. It's easiest to accomplish if you have a power strip with an on/off switch. Plug the Android into the charger and let it sit overnight. In the morning, grab a coffee/beer and a comfortable seat. Turn the charger off, then back on. You should see the screen flicker. After you observe the flicker, do it again ... and again .. and again. You may be doing this for 30 minutes. Eventually, instead of the screen flickering for a brief moment, you will see the charging icon pop up. STOP .... let it sit and charge for an hour or so. Now, boot it up and let it update to firmware 4.4.2. It's an annoying process to have to go through, but it might be worth it given that you can obtain these tablets for a pretty decent price. They run Practiscore like a champ, and they can be updated to the same 4.4.2 version of Android that the current Nexus (2013) models run.
  13. That's good to know. I'll grab that and throw it on all of mine just in case it is needed.
  14. That seems odd. I pulled a bunch of these things fresh out of the box this past weekend. I didn't register any of them --- I just stuffed a Root and Score It SD card in them, let that update to the new firmware, rebooted and rooted, connected to wifi, and all but two of them got the correct time via NTP within 60 seconds.. The other two got the correct time as soon as I rebooted.
  15. I've found the the NST will generally get time via NTP either right when you connect to a WiFi network w/ internet access --- or, upon a reboot. There is an App called ClockSync (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/clocksync-synchronise-device-time-via-ntp/) that may work. I don't have my nook with me right now, but I'll try it when I get home.
  16. Best Buy has them at $160 on their website --- free store pickup. I use a Nexus 7.2 as my personal tablet, but I didn't see the need to spend $229 for a master tablet. I just wanted to double check that I wasn't making a mistake with the 7.1. Thanks!
  17. I just ordered a large set of Nook Simple Touches to use as scoring tablets. My idea is to use the original Nexus 7 (2012 version) as the master because I can get it for about $60-70 cheaper than going with something like Nexus 7.2 (2013 version). Given that the 2012 Nexus runs Android 4.3 without issue --- can anyone see a reason why a tablet such as this wouldn't last me 2 years as a master tablet?
  18. Just a reminder to everyone --- we are holding a match this Saturday, March 1st. Please see the Charleston - USPSA Facebook group for more information : https://www.facebook.com/groups/375395210396/
  19. 2 per month = 24 local club matches. Then, I try to get out to at least 3 Level II/III matches per year.
  20. It's good to know that locking will be a future feature. Trust is key though -- and I know we've got a trustworthy group that we shoot with.
  21. I am more worried about someone on one of the other squad's tablets entering a score for a shooter not in their squad. Not sure if there is a list of future update requests --- but, one way to solve this would be to have the ability to lock a tablet into a certain squad to that the tablet can only enter scores for that squad. Again --- I don't really expect to ever have problems with this.... it's just my infosec background whispering in the back of my mind.
  22. Ok -- simply knowing that logs are there with timestamps is enough to know that I could sniff out a problem and come up with a fix. Thanks for the responses guys.
  23. I have been messing around with Practiscore a bit using a personal tablet --- trying to get used to it so that we can move our matches to electronic scoring. I've thought of something, and have been unable to determine how to fix this (or if this is actually even a problem to worry about). I don't really have the equipment available yet to do a hands on test necessary to see what kind of outcome I would get. Here's the setup to the scenario : Use a master tablet for registration and stage setup. Have a set of Nooks for the squads to use. Use sync to pull data down from master to Nooks before handing them out. At end of match, use Master to pull data from each Nook. Correct process, right? So --- here is where I am wondering how to prevent or protect against a potential problem. Let's say that a malicious actor (MA) with squad 2's Nook decides to screw with some random shooter (RS) on squad 1. MA enters a horrible score for RS on a stage (some mikes and a time that makes it seem as if the person fell asleep at some point in the middle of the COF). I use the sync function to pull squad 1's Nook data to the master. Then, I use the sync function again to pull squad 2's data to the mater. This means that I received RS's good score, but then I synced with a tablet that had RS's bad score. Is there a way for me to detect this once I use the master to pull all the scores from the Nooks? Does the sync alert to the fact that there is already a score -- and allow me to view both to see which is correct? I am assuming that everyone I shoot with is honest enough to never do such a thing, but I'd like to know if there are any integrity checks built in -- just in case.
  24. Is anyone still seeing these for $39? The cheapest I can find is $49 from newegg.com right now.
  25. No need to stay an hour out. The one I mentioned above is still available (just checked) for less than $100 a night. Only 30 minutes away. Hampton Atlanta-Stockbridge.
