  1. Thanks spook !!!!!! now if only I could do them regularly, and on demand. Oh well.... more dry fire and reload practice Congrats on your EC win.... i understand you have some pretty swift reloads too. good work. SAM
  2. BDH, I did the same thing at the Arkansas race gun match last year...... (stage plan) LMR, buzzer, shoot 3 targets shoot 2 targets in port, reload going around the corner finish stage. went like this.. LMR, Buzzer, shoot 3 targets, hit eject button grab mag and reload and at same time ask out loud. " why on earth did you do that?" shoot two targets in port, reload going around corner and finish the stage. Fortunately I was still in C class sitting right on the edge of B and reloads were good so I added only 1.3 to the stage time. Oh yeah I forgot.... that was back when I was shooting a bottom feeder. Hopalong..... See you at nationals,, will reintroduce myself
  3. Thanks Rhino !! Good looking picture, I spoke with her last year at the Factory gun nationals for a few minutes, a class act. Back to the reloads... All alphas on the target too!!! Hopalong
  4. Flex, No not hot loads, these make 140,000 max 155 grn jacketed bullets, tite group, small fed primer. Hop.
  5. this gun is the Non PC model. Using tite-group in these loads, they make 140000 pf. 155 grn jacketed bullets so it is not lead residue. The inside of the holes seem to be grainy like the outside, seems to me they need to be smooth. Thanks Mike
  6. Damn Dan !!!!!! Thats good with a bottom feeder Let me know if we are going to bump heads anywhere and I will bring the crying towel to use after you show us all how to use one of them things. Can anyone remember what Jerry Miculek did on his record setting run? hopalong
  7. I have this new 646 with the titanium cylinder, when I shot it this afternoon if I shot one or two at a time when I ejected all the spent shells the came right out. BUT when shooting all six fast and trying to eject to reload fast they would not budge. Whats the deal? any of you that have one of these have this problem. if you let them cool off for half a second or more they come right out. Any tips? I have also posted this question on the gunsmith thread but you know they mostly deal with bottom feeders. I really like this gun and hope to use it in IDPA and ICORE as the 625 is the USPSA gun but these sticking shells WON'T cut it. HELP WANTED !!!!! Hopalong
  8. At the Tennessee tactical 3-gun we shot the Texas star at 25 yds out of the back seat of a car... gun was in the car to start but you were out. (shotgun) Still not easy but am glad it was a shot gun and not a pisol Hopalong
  9. OK it was raining today so I could not shoot my scheduled practice agenda. Instead I put up a Metric IPSC target up under the HI-Power shed and made sure the bullets impacted the berm behind the target. Thought I would practice draws, reloads and reaquasition of target. Remember I'm shooting revolver now .45 ACP 625. target is 5 yds away best draw and alpha. .87 pretty much out of control, just pulled the trigger when the front sight hit the bottom of the A zone. Best draw and 2 alpha .94 with a .20 split. Here is the best though. Best draw, shoot 2 reload, shoot 2 reload shoot 2 (really no kidding) 1.07draw .20 split 1.97 reload .21 split 1.85 reload .21 split. ! Before today I had never hit 2 sub 2 second reloads in a row. I could get one but the other was always slower. if I avereaged 10 reloads I think it would come out around 2.25 so the dry fire and reload practice is helping Thanks for ya'lls time. Sam Keen
  10. I have recently aquired a Smith & Wesson 646, 4 inch L frame, .40 S&W only, titanium cylinder. I was playing with it at the range this afternoon and noticed that after I shoot all 6 shots quickly the brass will not eject until you give them a little time to cool (a second or so) I intend to shoot this gun some in IDPA and ICORE and that is not allowable at all, the brass should easily come out and like my 625 maybe just open the cylinder and turn it up and they fall out on their own. What do I need to do? would polishing the cylinder holes with flitz stop this problem? All help and info greatly appreciated as I really like this little gun. Sam Keen
  11. I was looking for Rudy Waldingers name in the squad lists for the USPSA Nationals and either I missed his name or he is not going to be there.... Has he quit shooting? or just can't make the big match? Hopalong
  12. UPDATE !!!!!! STI has granted US Contegency status as long as we get 100+ !!!! Weather here at that time of the year is lows in the mid 30s to 40s and highs in the 60s. Range is on sandy type land and drains extremely well so rain during the week only get the set up crew wet. On the 100+ we have had over 100 for the last 2 years (as many times as we have hosted it) and expect closer to 150 than 100. Come on down, up or over. SAM KEEN
  13. I know this is posted on the main post but you know they don't have the fast reloads like we do. Jerry M aside what are any of ya'll going to do? I think I am shooting for all A's and not reloading, take 75 points and go to the next stage. At the TN section the Long range standards weighted so heavy in the match that you had to not zero it ( or way down there) or you were lost. For a Revolver shooter I call this one a Survival stage, don't let it kill you but don't kill it. SAM
  14. Shooting B class revolver now, tried this thing yesterday..... Ran overtime after the reload on all strings and didn't have real good hits turned around and took my time and shot all As and did not even try to reload 75 points no OT !!!!! For me this is the best way to do it, if the others (revolvers Jerry excluded as he can do this! ) want to try and get some shots off and run over and get the penalty go for it and good luck. I will take my 75 points and go to the next stage..... Good Luck all at Nats. Hopalong.
  15. oh yeah, before you load thousands of rounds recheck them over your Chrono, I think you will find the SR primers will speed you up some so if you are using a hi-pressure powder (clays ect.) be carefull. HOP
  16. Also Small Rifle Primers have a little longer burn time so you get a more efficient powder burn. HOP
  17. badger, I had one on order since January, (standard extractor) when they came out with the power extractor I upgraded my order (JUNE/JULY). Got it Middle of August, was one of the first ones to ship. all others are going to distributors first then single and personal orders. They had the S1640SR on back order back in January, a few of thier suppliers were running behind, and are trying to catch up. Mine is seemingly put together a little better than my first 2 S1640SR s and the finish (sterling) is quite attractive, good looking gun. I have yet to fire it as I am getting ready to shoot the USPSA nationals with the wheel gun and really don't have the time to do much "goofing around" be patient, it will show. Sam Keen AKA Hopalong.
  18. Just thought I would spread the word a little..... CRSSA in Glen Mississippi ( Corinth for mapquest ) is hosting an ICORE match the 25th of September shooting starts at 1:00 pm we will be having the 4 stages of the postal match, plus maybe one or two fun stages. I know this conflicts with the IDPA nationals and I'm sorry but it is the only day we can do it. Directions to the range at www.crssa.com there will be no ICORE info on the web site as we are not affiliated with them as of yet but if we get enough interest we may. Equipment rules and other rules at www.icore.org if more info needed my e-mail srkdraws@bellsouth.net or 731-645-4403 I will be at the USPSA nationals from the 11th to the 19th hope to see you there....no need in bringing the bottom feeders at all as they will be limited to 1 shot only Sam Keen
  19. Grrl, have we done anything to the shoulder yet? What about RB? can't wait to have ya'll back in the loop..... Hang in there Hopalong
  20. Firewalker, will miss IDPA nationals, can only afford 1 at a time and USPSA got the nod this year, hope to make them next year though. Let us know about the moonclips, I am like you I think this little gun can run like a cheeta, (in the right hands) Looks like the TN and MS IDPA state matches are it for me this year Good Luck at Little Rock and whip a couple of them bottom feeders for me. Hopalong
  21. Firewalker, Carmoney, Have either of you tried the Hearthco clips yet? I am like Firewalker, not satisfied with the factory clips.... I noticed that the clips in the Brownells book is offered in two different thicknesses, maybe the thick ones to help take up the space in the rim groove? Hoping to shoot mine in the TN IDPA State match in October but if I can't get something better than what came with it I will shoot the 610 instead. Hopalong
  22. Ron, He was talking about, "top of the line" equipment, not factory or stock stuff here Now that he has said he want to use it for CCW, he needs to get himself a 646 instead. Steve, Just having a little fun at your expense.... Good Luck with it, if you can Come down to the MS IDPA match in November I'm sure there are some ESP masters here you can beat up on. Hopalong
  23. How about a Smith & Wesson 625 4" bbl, chamfered cylinder, Black magic spring kit, Hearthco Moon clips???? I regularly do better with mine than my bottom feeder.... It is the INDIAN.... NOT the ARROW.... GOOD LUCK Gamer !!!! Hopalong
  24. Before I changed over to Revolvers I shot a Para-Ordnance p16-40 Limited I have short fingers and thick hands and shift the gun in my hand and hit the button with the strong hand thumb. I have been shoting Auto pistols for only 3 years and had a consitant 1.3 reload on USPSA targets at 7 yds and some time did it right and broke 1 second so it can be done it just takes lots of work, for me it was every other evening dry fire and practice reload and tuesday thursday live fire. Good Luck. Hopalong--now shooting revolver where a 2 second reload is the magic number.
  25. Steve Moneypenny, I shot with Jerry Miculek at the Area-3 match and at one point we had about a 2 hour wait so we talked all kind of stuff, 3-guns ect. At one point I mentioned to him that I had found a new 646 and was in the process of trying to buy it, he said that it was a neat gun and should be a great IDPA gun. I told him I thought I would like it as I have kind of short fingers and thought the L frame would be the ticket for me. He then told me that he was talking with S&W about making a 9mm L frame just for the IDPA/ICORE crowd as their power factor was so much lower than USPSA/IPSC (major that is) but that is just in the talking stage so just maybe you will get your wish. Firewalker, are you and Stephanie going to make the Mississippi State IDPA match in November? I invited Jerry to come shoot it and Deer hunt while we were talking and he said if he didn't have anything he had to do on his calender he would come. Until then I will see some of you at the USPSA Nationals, Squad 13 Sam Keen aka Hopalong
