  1. What a great match. A big thanks to all who made it possible. Linda, my condolences to you and your family for your loss. I can't see how this match could have happened without all of your hard work. I will be back next year if I can get lucky and click that submit button fast enough.
  2. I like the slightly rubberized texture of my Decal Grips.
  3. I still shoot my 19 in ESP when I shoot IDPA. It's not stock by any means, but it's still a 19. I have small hands, and once I added a magwell, it fits my hand like a dream. I understand the sight radius thing, and it almost pushed me to buy a 17 top end to convert the 19 to a 19L at one point. Then I got a 24 and started shooting that in 3 Gun and USPSA. I stopped shooting IDPA for about 4 months. Two weeks ago, I picked the 19 back up and hit a local IDPA match because not much was going on in the shop. I don't know what happened, but I took HOA in ESP and 2nd OA for the match (Damn you, Paul. I WILL beat you one day...). I've never shot that good. Everything clicked. I've spent time thinking about what I did to make this happen. I don't know if practicing with the longer sight radius of the 24 helped with tracking the sight on the 19, or if it was just the Cardboard Killing Gods smiling down on me. My point is, I don't think the 19 will hold you back at this point in the game. And when it does, you won't have to ask the board if it is (not sure if that makes sense). Have fun with it. If you're the "I want to win" type, then you can win with it too. I remember my first sanctioned match, a very experienced shooter on my squad asked me what I was shooting on the first stage. I told him (the 19) and he kinda snickered and said "Good Luck with that." Well, I took 3rd in ESP MM. Doesn't sound like much, but I beat guys shooting 2011's (also would have won if not for sandbaggers).
  4. +1 I had a great time. It was a great match and I met a lot of great people. It really showed me weakness that I didn't realize I had. I'll be back next year for sure. Thanks to Phil, all of the staff, and all of the sponsors for putting on a great match.
  5. At the end is a guy shooting it pretty well. It really isn't that hard Charlie!
  6. Reading all of this has really made me appreciate the "apprenticeship" that I lucked out on in a local smith's shop. He was a Tool and Die maker for years before he got into gunsmithing. I get to work on a Bridgeport Knee Mill that looks almost exactly like the one in the picture that jid2 posted, nearly everyday I'm off work from the Fire Department. I can really attest to Bamboo's last post. I have been working in the shop for about 4 months now, and I can't tell you how many tools that I have broken. One was a $70 carbide cutter, snapped it before I turned the machine on. On the flip side of that, once you get comfortable (not complacent, that's how you get hurt), you will be astounded by what you can do.
  7. Welcome, from err...the middle of Florida..
  8. This worked for me too! .4 seconds off my time. Great post and great information on mechanics here.
  9. FWIW, as I don't have any experience with the Vanek out of the box: I'm also in the Vanek boat. Mine came used in a 24 that I bought, but damn I love it. I installed a ZEV kit at work the other day. It was a light pull, but I could tell it was going to take adjustments to get it to the sweet spot. I left this to the customer to do, as what I like may be totally wrong for him.
  10. In my experience, Ghost Rockets pull is heavier than the Zev v4 by almost a pound. I tried them back to back in the same G19 to come to this conclusion. The only problem that I had to alleviate was the overtravel of the Zev since it does not have the tab. It wasn't too hard once I figured out what I needed to do. Took about 5 minutes on a drill press.
  11. Damn, I found it right after I posted and was not fast enough to delete my post. Thanks, MB.
  12. Can we at least get a round count? Was it already posted? Did I miss it? This is my first match outside of club level matches. I really hope I don't get let down.

    Mag baseplate

I have the Dawson Toolless basepads on my G24 magazines. It is a great grip point for reloads. And it adds enough weight so mags drop free. The toolless design makes cleaning mags after a dusty stage a breeze.
  14. Ordered mine from Predator Tactical a few days ago. I'm pretty stoked about it.
  15. "Measure with Micrometer, Mark with Saw, Cut with Axe." -The Gunsmith I work for.
  16. Facebook is really pissing me off right now, as I can't view the album.
  17. I started to notice that I was failing to seat my mags during live fire. Now I realize that this can be attributed to dry fire with empty mags.
  18. I really like my Kick-Eez.
  19. At my first USPSA MG match I did the same thing. Coming from IDPA, I was so stoked I could "airgun" the stage that I must have walked through it 15 times. Counting steps, planning reloads, finding targets. It was a stage that required lateral movement across the bay. At one point you had to turn back towards the start position to engage an array that was hidden behind a wall and only visible from one spot. I was the second shooter (this was the first stage). Buzzer went off and I blew through the stage. The SO even made the comment, "Wow, that was fast." I went to unload and show clear and noticed that I hadn't reloaded. My hear sank. 10 Mikes. I even missed a target that I never noticed in the walkthrough (the target was so well hidden that it was clean until the 5th shooter of the day). It absolutely ruined the rest of the match for me. The lesson it taught me was to let mistakes go after they happen. I take the Tiger Woods approach now. I can cuss (quietly to myself), kick dirt, and be pissed at myself for 1 minute after a mistake. Then it's gone. It has helped me tremendously.
  20. If you dry fire the gun while looking up towards the slide through the magwell, you will be able to roughly gauge how much you need to remove from the OT stop.
  21. Yes. It's actually three different matches. There is a low light combative pistol match, a practical shooting match, and a three gun match. None of which are run by any type of rule set that I have ever heard of before.
  22. I'm honestly not sure, as they have not posted anything close to stage descriptions. I'm hoping about 250 will get me through.
