  1. I'm shooting a glock. My powder measure is a hornady and throws the fifteen other powders I have great, but with promo it varies by up to a grain (.5 in either direction) and the felt difference between a 3.0 and 4.0 charge is more than noticeable. I don't do the ten throw average for this very reason. I will throw ten throws and measure each of them to see the extremes. I might pick up another measure to see if that helps, but I'm over half way through this 8# jug so the end is within sight.
  2. I've been burning through a 8lb jug of alliant promo that i purchased last year, but it does not meter consistently at all so I am measuring each load by hand (i load on a single stage press anyway, so it does not slow me down too much) and while loading tonight I got to thinking about expected powder consistency out of a powder measure. I am loading to exactly 3.2 grains by my digital scale so I could technically be getting anywhere from 3.15 grains up to 3.24 grains which is one full grain of deviation. How accurate is acceptable from a powder measure with a powder that measures well? If a powder has a steep pressure curve (like the promo does) could it affect grouping more than a powder with a less steep curve? I'm sure at the amounts we are dealing with and the distances that we are shooting, the actual effect is probably very minimal but at what point (i.e. deviation) do you avoid a powder all-together in a powder measure.
  3. I also highly recommend trying the armorall wash n wax car wash with it. You won't have as many water spots on the brass after it dries.
  4. +1 for the blue bullets (they are made about 12 miles from my house) I've shot about 2800 through my glock 17 factory barrel and they are great. As far as diameter goes, I have not seen any coated bullet manufacturers that offer more than one size. Plenty of cast companies do (dardas etc) but i'm not aware of any coated options on diameter.
  5. Welcome to SC!, Hope you enjoy your time here, the matches close to you have been covered pretty well.
  6. Finally just broke this habit myself. I used chapstick on my shooting glasses (left lens) and it worked pretty well. Took almost a complete month of dryfire drills 4 times a week. Another thing that also helps me is to squint my non dominant eye just as I am aquring a sight picture. Then when you relax that eye, the dominant eye takes over and then the brain ignores the "other target" Give it a while and you won't even see the other one.
  7. I bought a 9mm 1911 from taurus and though it had a few things that I did not like, it is very accurate compared to my springfield GI and loaded. I like the loaded better because of certain features (sights mostly) but for the money I have been very happy. I fit a new bushing (had to buy oversized) dropped the main spring as well as recoil spring weights (personal prefrence) Besides the first 2 or 3 magazine loads having a few malfunctions this pistol has been flawless. I have ran between 3 and 4 thousand rounds through since then without even a SINGLE hiccup. Ammo dosent seem to matter, nor diff. magazine brands. I do not reload and only shoot factory ammo. I know you get what you pay for and the finish on these guns is nothing to be proud of. Some of mine is rubbing off from dry fire practice. As for the comments about loose fit and that not being safe, I think this is total bull. One of my fathers 1911 pistols (old army issue, and reissued and then recieved by him) rattles like crazy if you shake it, but I wouldn't want him shooting it at me and it has no dependability issues. The fit on mine is nothing to right home about and since I fit a new barrel bushing the accuracy has been great. Only thing about mine that really dissapointed me is that the sight cuts are not the same as any other pistols or sights on the market. Long story for these points: You get what you pay for. Not all of us can afford 2k dollar 1911's No one expects these guns to perform like $2k guns. They are still a good gun for the money. I think the STI spartan is the only gun in around the same price range that compares with the pt1911 and I chose the taurus because I wanted a ramped barrel in 9mm. Just my .02
  8. I'm going to say 11. Really no rhyme or reason. Just a guess. Snick is what happens when you are in a serious public situation and something happens that makes you want to laugh really hard, and it starts to slip out (like a snicker) but you catch it just in time.
  9. Hope you find your stuff, and I hope whoever took them goes home to find their house in ashes (along with their guns) I can't stand a theif.
  10. Def. not a cubs hat, its for an old travel softball team I used to play on. I'm a mariners fan, but am somewhat ashamed to admit it.
  11. lol a friend of mine was a SERE instructor and that sounds just like something he would say. Those guys are just crazy
  12. Thanks, that's my sweetheart annabelle. We let her out in the daytime and she sleeps in her pen in the house at night. She spends most of the day playing with my hog dogs and running squirrels out of the yard.
  13. I like finding out that me and my wife are expecting our first child. We've been trying for 4 months and the running joke for the past 3 years has been that I would "allow" us to have a child when the car is paid off. We paid off the car on the 14th and found out she was pregnant on the 20th. Now just to get the rest of the things I need to start shooting USPSA before all the "saving and stock piling" depletes my spending money.
  14. Same goes for me, pisses me off even more when they ask you to pull up to the curb and there is no one in line behind you at all.
  15. Has anyone else ever noticed that the prices of value meals at fast food chain places have no rhyme or reason behind them. Today i noticed that the difference in price of sandwich and small combo is not the same for every sandwich. It might be 2.25 for one and 2.40 for another and 2.90 for something else. Seems to me like you should be able to take any sandwich and add X amount to get the combo, after all you are buying the same thing (fries and drink). Just something i've noticed.
  16. I know no one has posted in this thread for a while, but its after 1am and I'm not sleeping so here is a good one. Not the toughest one i could come up with but one of my favorites. As kids we used to play this game to pass the time, it was always one of my favorites. The rivers are full of crocodile nasties and He who made kittens put snakes in the grass. He's a lover of life but a player of pawns yes, the King on His sunset lies waiting for dawn
  17. I am sorry for you and where ever it is that you reside, but commend you for loving guns and shooting enough to jump through the hoops imposed upon you.
  18. Thanks, me and my wife got a great laugh out of that one. CW does rock
  19. My favorites: Morgan Freeman in Shawshank Redemption: Sometimes, I like to think the last thing that went through the wardens mind, besides that bullet........... one of the kill bill movies she says "not that I have to be, but from this distance i'm an f'n surgeon with a shotgun"
  20. I am pretty sure that exact phrase was said by one of the aborigines in the movie "Quigley Down Under" when Quigley actually uses the pistol to kill Mr. Marston. Roughly translated it says, "Damn that was fast!,If You Are Finished, Unload And Show Clear” Oh and is this see who can post the most comments, or the best comment? I'm a little confused, but I sure could use $100 in your store so I can finally see what this book everyone keeps referencing is all about.
  21. simple physics dictates that the thinking behind this design is flawed. When the bullet passes from the muzzle enough to clear these "compensating holes" the gas will escape in a somewhat circular pattern. The only resistance these gasses will experience will be the resistance between the expelled gas and air which would be minimal to begin with, but being in a complete ring around the bullet would neither decrease or increase recoil. IE compensated bullets belong in the same pile at vw bug radiators, 2x4 stretchers, and diesel spark plugs.
  22. I've got a springfield loaded in .45 so if I find myself at a huge disadvantage i'll shoot it, but I find I really like shooting the Taurus more. All this is just to get me by till I can afford that STI edge that stole my heart.
  23. Thanks for all your help. I'm gonna look into SS. I know that with a 9mm I can have 10 rounds in a mag, but what about ten plus one in the chamber to start? This is still legal isn't it?
  24. Thanks I must have crossed that up somewhere in my rules reading. I was under the assumption that I could not use 9 and 10 round magazines mixed. This helps a ton. I appreciate the quick answer. Now, on to spend some money.
  25. Hi, all I am new at the USPSA thing and plan to shoot my first match in the month of January. I've been practicing on most everything, but a question came up today and I did some searches and looked through the rule book but wasn't very clear on the answer. First I have a Taurus pt1911 in 9mm that I plan to shoot in limited 10 division. I am getting ready to place my order for some Tripp 10 round magazines. I understand that all magazines used must be of the same capacity and loaded to division/mechanical capacity. But could I use one of my stock taurus 9rd magazines to place a round into the chamber, then remove it and place it in a back pocket or somewhere else and only use the tripp during the COF? This would allow me to purchase one less magazine (for right now) and still have the ten plus one capacity in my gun. Thanks for all your help.
