  1. I'd advise you to practise it very slowly, broken down into it's component parts. When you master the movements required, start speeding up - until you start fluffing reloads, then drop back a tad and keep practising until you are ready to speed up some more. This is always assuming that you are executing the fundamentals of the reload correctly...one mistake which many people make is that they don't look at the mag well - this is rather important. Just my 2 cents worth
  2. And by the way, the "friendly" bloke at the range who blamed your 550 and told you to change press is not "friendly", he's a complete idiot who doesn't know his arse from his elbow when it comes to reloading......
  3. Just had my tonsils out and I think my pain meds are acting up.... What in the name of all that's holy is going on here? Glocks unreliable with good reloads? Tell that to my G35 after 30,000 plus reloads through it...

    Glock maintenance

Slide glide (regular) on rails, barrel & lug and a tiny blob on the connector - it gets cleaned circa every 2000 rounds.
  5. I find that the arredondos don't fit in the IPSC box when my G35 has Warren Tactical sights on :-( Ordered a couple of TTI's - hope these will fit as an extra couple of rounds can come in very useful when competing against STI's etc
  6. I'm willing to bet that you'll see a huge difference with the new sights - I held off changing mine for a couple of years, but then tried a mate's Glock which had Warren Tacticals with and FO front and was smitten - split times drop considerably because your eyes lock on to the front FO so much more quickly.
  7. Stuck Warren Tacticals with FO front - OMG! A true epiphany... Wish I'd done this a long time ago - my stage times have dropped, accuracy is excellent, what more to ask? Thanks for all the good advice
  8. Very happy with my Warren tacticals on my G35. The odd thing is that I installed the ones meant for a G17, but my elevation was perfect all the same. Not complaining..... My times dropped substantially and accuracy remained top-notch.
  9. Pretty unanimous Sights it is then.... Thanks for all the feedback
  10. Flexmoney makes a very valid point (well, he would, wouldn't he) . In the early stages you certainly don't need a magwell. If you are hovering in the area between A and M, perhaps it will help you squeeze past, and if it makes you more confident, you'll probably run smoother reloads anyway - 99% of our game is mental anyway Having said that, I recently stuck a Dawson Ice on mine (hovering between A and M) and it feels really nice - helps with grip position and I like the extra weight - however, it will need a bit of dremelling/filing (about 1 mm) at the rear to fit comfortably in the IPSC box keeping the barrel parallel to the long side. Arredondo mag extensions give you and extra 2 rds in .40 S&W and fit in it well, but if you are going to change the stock sights to something higher (like FO's), then you might have an issue with the 15cm dimension.....
  11. Hmm, looks like most people agree that sights matter more than mag capacity (think so myself, but confirmation is nice..) Off to kip, past midnight here. Will be happy to read more opinions tomorrow. Clive
  12. Thanks Daniel, will take a look Clive
  13. Thanks Daniel. What kind of base pads will fit in the IPSC box? At most I was considering glueing on another 3mm layer to thicken them slightly to help me whack them in past the mag well. Clive
  14. What it says on the label:-) I'm "tarting up" my G35 which I run (pretty successfully) in IPSC standard division. No massive changes - tweaked trigger, full length stainless guide rod, Dawson magwell. Up till now it fits in the IPSC box (minus the magwell), but barely with Arredondo magazine extensions. I'd like to install Warren F.O sights but they're a mm or two taller than the factory sights. What say ye good people of the forum? Should I retain the factory sights and drop the magwell to retain the mag extensions or should I stick with factory mags and invest in FO sights plus keep the magwell on the gun? One part of me says to go for the sights and mag well - which together will give me a better all round gain than an extra 3 rounds...but those 3 rounds sure could come in handy I'd really like your opinions. Cheers Clive
  15. I like my 35 with the brass plug and magwell from Dawson - plus a full length stainless guide rod. Balance is excellent....
  16. A set of pins and springs (the lot, including a mag spring). Only thing that ever happened to me was that I had a locking block pin work loose and fall out - only noticed after about 3 range sessions...didn't make any difference to function.
  17. Get a piece of Kydex and bend one up? Take an existing Kydex holster that is close and put the hair dryer to it? That's what we ended up doing with an old SIG P226 holster I had lying around - but he goes green with envy when we all strut about with our Ghost, DAA and CR Speed race rigs - claims that's what's holding his scores back (in his dreams )
  18. Word of warning. Before you commit to purchase, make sure you can get a good competition holster for it - nobody seems to manufacture any for this model. Clive
  19. Has anybody tried the new "pyramid" trigger from glockstore? It seems to promise a lot, but I don't know whether it would be better than my polishing job and spring kit (for a G35 in IPSC standard division) Thanks Clive
  20. +1 What the gentlemen said.. Enjoy your new addiction!
  21. I usually run them 12:00, 9:00, 3:00, 5:00 and 7:00, which works very well for me...except for the last match we had where the blasted 3.00 plate seems to have gotten stuck and needed 3 hits from a major PF .40 to finally come off - I should have called a range equipment malf, but was all souped up and kept shooting. Wasted a few seconds plus an extra reload which pushed me into second place overall by 4.6 points out of 430 on that match...bah, humbug.... I agree with Lawboy and Nimitz - practice your steels so when you get a bunch of poppers, plates and stars on a stage you won't get a mental block, unlike some other shooters. I tend to shoot steel arrays in practice using a Virginia count - nothing worse/better than seeing a couple of plates still standing grinning at you at the end of a COF to really get you to focus on your fundamentals.
  22. My experience is that "first timers" tend to flirt with (or get in bed with) a DQ because they try to go as fast as the rest of us. I usually try to have a quiet word with them along the lines of "try to get good hits and don't bother too much about the time at this stage". They usually get reasonable times too as they shoot smooth stages that way. Those who hammer the throttle tend to mess up in the early days.. Offer consolation and don't let 'em get away :-)
  23. Guilty as charged! Happens to most of us (usually once, sometimes...) Good stuff
