  1. Noticed that too. Dunno the scoop. Mods- if this is a dead horse topic or off limits, just say the word. Suprised someone would leave in a huff - this is a very polite corner of the web.
  2. E3 should be an excellent alternative. But, Unlike N320, E3 is a double base powder where as N320 is single base. Want a US made, single base powder to replace N320? Accurate Arms Solo 1000 has published, book loads for .40 and its clean & soft shooting. At to "Caution" above, we all know that N320 was perfectly safe at 175 to 180 PF; years of use in Limited proved that. So, is N320 safe at 165 to 170? Of course it is. Is there a wider margin of safety at 165 PF? Of course. Which is one reason that reasonable, careful, professional shooters like TGO and Hennin have mentioned using even faster powders like N310 (TGO) and straight Clays (Henning). Point is: just because a powder is listed on a burn rate chart as fast or faster than N320 does not mean its unsafe. I'll stick with single base Solo 1000 as I personally believe that such powder is less likely to spike pressure than a double base.
  3. As far as case support in non-1911 guns (specifically, the high pressure 9mm) here is another photo: From Left to Right: Glock 17, H&K USP, Walther P99, Steyr M-9 Obviously the Steyr offers not only excellent case support but also greater strength due to the chamber wall thickness.

Saw one in action over the weekend - zero malfunctions. Apparently the way the pins are installed & removed is very important (unlike polymer). Instant trigger job confirmed.
  5. Yes - but if the brass were mixed head stamp, then wouldn't you need to take into account the variance in weight between manufacturers? I would measure the weigh in grains of a sample of each represented brand and then figure the average of the samples. Thoughts? By the way, anyone have a rough # of .45 casings that fit in a US Postal Service flat rate box?
  6. Well I have not used Kool Aid, but for really dark stained brass, I just tumble, then soak it in either lemmon juice, orange juice (when the stuff in the fridge starts to go bad before we drink it, its still good for cleaning) or vinegar. A trip or two through the sizing die helps too.
  7. When searching for .40 cal GLOCK data - make SURE the AOL listed is under 1.160". If the load is longer DO NOT REDUCE IT!!!!! Find another load instead.
  8. What about price comparison? For example, what would be the cost for plating a complete 2011 pistol by each vendor?
  9. That is easily the most evil shotgun ever posted on be.com! 19+1?!?! Thanks for the pic.
  10. Before he moved out of VA, Rudy was using those & he seemed satisfied with the accuracy. I loaded them over Trail Boss but did not get to Major & abandoned that powder. Clays or TG would work - as would N310 or Solo 1000.
  11. George that is just great! Kid's even got his finger off the trigger in the first photo - way to go & thanks for bringin 'em up right. ps Red Riders are still cool but every kid should have one of those Crossman bb guns too.
  12. Pretty much same here. Stay away from CCI - they are the LEAST reliable. Lots of duds / multiple strikes. Took the plunge yesterday & ordered 5,000 of the PMCs. Now labled as wolf brand, but come outta the same plant as PMC. Will report back once they arrive.
  13. Video HERE or try: http://www.thatvideosite.com/video/2290 Kinda funny. Not sure how they got their hands on explosuvs, but oh well. Not a bad shot with the 12 gauge - especially hung over & out in the cold.
  14. Wichester had some mis-fire & QC issues last year. I would not use those. Plus they cost too much. A more reliable choice for soft primer would be the PMC brand, which is now sold under the name "Wolf" - but don't let the name mis-lead you - these are the same great primers we all know as the PMC brand and they come off the same assembly line. Top quality. And almost as relaible as Federal.
  15. I have seen & owned several STI/SV guns with the ejector NOT PINNED. This was intentional. THe gunsmith did not want them pinned. Point is, pinning the ejector is OPTIONAL. Our host prefers to pin them in place. But, you should never let a loose or unpinned ejector stop you from shooting or attending a match; and solid vs. roll pin is meaningless when talking about a completely optional part.
  16. What everyone seems to be saying is that the JP Tank brake is still #1 for absolute recoil reduction. While the Surefire would seem to be pretty good if it works as well as the Miculek, it also costs a lot more than the Miculek. And, its only apparent advantage over the Miculek brake is that you can put a certain type of silencer over it. Is the surefire allowed in Tactical, or is it too long to be tactical approved?
  17. Excellent point! Original post is somewhat over simplified; there are non-ramped barrels that offer more chamber support than others and I am certain there are rambed barrels that have been modified by well-meaning gunsmiths to the point where much of the support has been ground away. Also, the use of newer brass such as the improved .40 brass, better single based powders like V V, and the lower power factor all combine to make a ramped barrel less necessary that it once was - though I believe that there is no such thing as too much case support.
  18. Here are (hopefully) two photos of 1911 barrels; one showing a traditional, common, non-ramped barrel which lacks any chamber support at all: The second photo shows a ramped 1911 barrel that has full chamber support: A ramped barrel is not needed for low-pressure rounds like the .45 ACP or the .38 SPECIAL (yes there were 1911s in that cal.). But, many calibers run pressure of 35,000 to 45,000 PSI - including 10mm, .40 cal, 9mm, 38 stupid +p, etc. I feel that all 1911 barrels in the latter chamberings should be ramped/supported chamber barrels.
  19. Caution: NON-STEEL BELTED TIRES ONLY!!! We used shredded tires as our backstop at Shooters Paradise - until it caught fire & burned the range down (likely due to tracers). BUT - point is that if there is steel in the tire shredds or tires, firing rifle bullets (especially the old USGI steel jacketed .30 cal) into them could result in more sparks than you would want. The tire material we used was bought from Caswell at a high price - but none of it contained steel or steel-belt.
  20. Though not quite as big as a CZ-97B, it is on the large side with stock grips. BUT: -aluminum grips have a huge effect. -grip reductions are possible; results & photos here: www.strictlyIPSC.com
  21. The store mentioned in your post also banned the salvation army bell-ringers that show up outside most stores around xmas. Not making any political comment - just stating a fact. I personally avoid anti-gun / anti-carry corporations.

As the pictures show, it would not be difficult to simply modify the ones you have if you think it will improve your trigger. Somewhere along the line I ended up with a set in my gun and they work fine.
  23. Sometimes the answers are rather simple. I measure success by lowered rates of recidivism. Proven techniques? -Incarcerate an offender at least 100 miles from home. His fellow gange members are not there, his baby's momma won't travel that far & neither will his family. Suddenly - jail becomes, well, like punishment or something. -"Drug court" over "treatment beds". A specialized Judge understands drug cases as thats all he/she does - and the use both the carrot AND the stick along with constant testing. As for "treatment" - it rarely works & the "treat" in "treatment" is not what a druggy needs. Sheriff Arpaio's techniques are also an excellent start. Why have they not spread nationwide consistently? For those who would pity the inmates, where is your pity for the victims of the crimes the inmates committed?
