  1. Could you please share the item number of the Cabela's cheapo Wolf ammo with us? It shoots all over the place out of my gun too but I can live with it inside 100 yards and for local matchs. I apparently already threw out the catalog, and our "recyclables" were picked up yesterday, but, they show them on their website at $99. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...f&noImage=0
  2. I just recieved a new flyer from Cabella's and they list the 500 rounds of "Wolf" in a sealed can for $99, so I'm guessing that the stuff you have is current production. I've been using the polymer coated stuff for hoser stages for a couple of years now and the only issues I've had are they are noy very accurate out of my guns, and I forgot to open up my JP gas block just before one match that I had set for 68 grain bullets that had 25 grains of Varget behind them and my rifle was a single shot. MY FAULT!!
  3. I'm glad you had fun! It is really nice to see the ladies and juniors get involved (addicted) to the sport!!
  4. I'm running 26 grains of Varget behind a 60 grain V max, but, I've never chronoed it. I was running 25 grains of Varget behind Hornady's 68 grain boatail, hollowpoint match bullet and was getting around 2,900, if I remember right.
  5. I have run Winchester in all of my guns for the last 14 years and didn't have any issues until I sent my Glock 35 to Custom Glock Racing and they brought the trigger down to 3#. After I had the trigger work done, I would get an occasional misfire--during a match of course. I also have a Glock 34 that I put one of Ralf's wonderful "Trigger Kits" in and it brought the trigger pull down to about 2#, but, it will NOT fire Winchester primers most of the time. I've swithched to Federal primers for those two Glocks, and so far, they have run 100%, but, like said, Federal primers are almost impossible to come by at this time and it would sure be nice to know that there is an alternate that will work as well.
  6. I used to have a Walther in .32 and did load some for it. I sold the pistol several years ago, but, I think I still have the Lee dies, and maybe some bullets, if you are interested.
  7. I currently own 5 STIs and I am down to one Para, which was the first hi-cap I owned. I bought my P14-45 in the early 90s with the aluminum frame and sent it to EGW for a match barrel, bushing, frame rails, ect. The cost of the upgrades were a lot higher than the original pistol. I bought a used Para "open" gun, and a P16-40 "Limited" during the ban. The "open" gun was set up for .38 super and I had problems with feeding out of the mags so I had it switched to run .38 Supercomp and it ran 100%. The P16-40 "Limited" didn't run. The barrel fit was so bad that it wasn't in the same place every time. I made the mistake of sending it to Para, where they replaced other parts for $200, but, they refused to do anything about the barrel. Guess what? When it came back from Para, it still wouldn't run! I bought an Ed Brown barrel and had it properly fitted along with a match bushing and it ran 100% and was very accurate! I've heard of a lot of guys with issues with stock STIs and SVIs too, and have to take them to a good gunsmith to get them to run. The only STI that I had that wasn't a "custom" gun is my Eagle .40 that I use for IDPA, and that went to Dan Bedell when I first bought it, to have him tune it up and make it feel as close as possible to my "shorty" open gun. You should ask your fellow shooters if you can try thier guns to se what actually works best for you. Most shooters will gladly let you try their guns. If you take the time to look around, you CAN come up with some smoking deals, particularly on this site, and the USPSA site. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that whatever you get, make sure you have an "inspection period" and take it to a good gunsmith!
  8. I shot my first "real" 3-gun match at DPMS in 2004 and was instantly hooked on the sport, even more so than IDPA and USPSA. Knowing that all the shooting sports continue to exist through people helping out, I offered my help and have been an R.O. for the Tri-gun challange for the last 3 years. It IS a lot of work, and I'm glad that most of you appreciate us doing the best we can! It was really nice seeing familar faces again, and finally meeting some of the people from this forum for the first time. I hope to see you all there next year!
  9. I think I know what you are getting at. I was running an old 1-4, Vari XII and never had any problems hitting targets at long ranges IF I could see them. I've pretty much been only shooting "open" lately with an OKO, red dot sight mounted on the forearm for the closer stuff so I put on an old Weaver 2-10, in place of the 1-4, and if the targets are hiding in the shadows, I can now pick them out without any problem.
  10. When you shoot pistol you tape your RIGHT eye? I am also right handed, and left eye dominant and I tape my left for handguns, and long guns, except while hunting.
  11. I bought some used Cobramags for my .40 and they work great as long as I load my ammo as long as I do for my STIs. I really think I could fit 10mm ammo in them. Does anybody know where I can get some more??
  12. I was thinking that one might work for tactical optics, if there's enough room to mount a rear sight to it and mount a front sight on the barrell, or the hand guard. I'm presently running a JP short sight on my hand guard at about 2 o'clock, but, I would like a longer sight radius. Has anybody tried this yet??
  13. Ditto! I swapped out a Micklek to a JP and I think it changed point of impact about 2" at 200 yards.
  14. I also have one with an 18" heavy barrel. I've tried most commercial loads in it just to get an idea as to what it likes, and found that Black Hills 168 grain match(red box) did about the best, with Federal 168 grain match as a second. The groups were about 1 1/2" at 200 yards. I was playing with some handloads and found that a Lapua 155 grain bullet, with Varget behind it will cut the group size down to about half. Mine also has a JP trigger and a Micklek comp and the recoil isn't bad for a .308, but, I think it's at least double the recoil of my .223s.
  15. You are welcome to bring whatever you need to get around. The furthest walk/drive will be less than 200yds. Last year, in that mud, trying to push a cart full of 3-gun gear, it seemed like miles!! Can you keep the weather nice for us this year?? LOL We still had a GREAT time last year and are looking forward to next month!!
  16. CMMG, On COF #7 what distance will the shotgun targets be placed? What is the "bonus" for the 340 yard gong? I assume that the clock will be kept running while engaging the gong. What is the diameter of the gong?? Thanks!!
  17. Jeff/John, Will you guys be posting the courses of fire her, like you've been doing with some of your other matches? See you in May! Randy
  18. I have the skeleton on my open gun. The round, foam makes is easier to roll it over to look though my dot sight, but, I know I paid more for mine, when I bought it than what M2 is asking.
  19. Why do you have to have a 178 PF? Is it shooting better and flat with higher PF? I do have the same set up as yours using N350 with 170-172 PF at 8.2g. I intentionally ran it high because most of the people I talked to, here in WI said that when you went to "Nationals" it usually chronoed 5-10pf less. I didn't want to get bumped down to minor, but, it seems that my chrono runs exactly the same as the one used on my gun at Nationals, and at Area 5. I now have a bunch loaded at 8 grains and they are running about 170pf. I'm not going to settle on that load until I chrono them several times, at different times of the day, and different temperatures, just to be 100% sure they will make major.
  20. I run 4.2 grains of 231 behind a 125 grain jhp bullet in my Glocks for 131pf.
  21. My Bedell shorty has the popple holes. Both loads I use run a little hot. 178pf 8.3 grains of vv N350 9 grains of IMR 4756 both with Zero 125 grain jhp and WW small rifle primers. The loads with 4756 have a LOT more muzzle flash and leave more dirt in the gun. I thought the 4756 load felt softer, but, according to the timer, I shoot the 350 loads faster. Ive tried vv N105, but, I didn't think it was any better than the 350 and I think I had to go to over 10 grains of the 105 to make major.
  22. I picked one up at the DPMS match this year during a spending frenzy. It is still new in the package, around here somewhere. I doubt that I'll ever use it. If you're interested in it, let me know.
  23. I have both too. I've never had a malfunction with either one, but, even though the Jard is lighter, I think I prefer the JP because it is crisper.
