  1. I was having a lot of issues with bullet setback and bulging at the bases of the cases on my 9mm cases once it hit about the 5th time reloading it. Switching to the Lee U Die solved this issue. But I also case check every round I load to make sure they will feed correctly to hopefully avoid out of batter firing if something hangs up. I've found several cracked cases along the way while inspecting my reloads. This has also carried over to my .40S&W reloading with the U Dies as well as the GR-X on every reloading and case checking the complete rounds. I have found many more cracked .40S&W cases that I ever did 9mm and I've loaded about 10x more 9mm. .40S&W seems very prone to cracking cases. The U Die does a fantastic job with avoiding bullet setback without any crimp. To avoid an over charge I alway use a RCBS Lockout Die. They are fantastic.
  2. Are we in the daily joke forum??? I did just back order a matching set of Black Rain Ordnance AR10 upper/lowers at Brownell's. I think they are the best bet at getting your back order filled without being subject to price gouging 6 months from now when the item goes back in stock. That being said, they did cancel my order for 1k rounds of 6.5 Creedmoor that I placed during their sale last month. They shipped the 6 boxes they had in stock, then waited a month and cancelled the rest of my order. Hopefully that does not happen with all these back orders, because they could just as easily cancel them all and then adjust prices when stuff comes back in stock.
  3. They are all over the place. My last one was a 40Pro with a factory break at almost 8 pounds. So much for a "Pro" improved trigger. And hopefully I didn't have to pay extra with the grit that came with the trigger. All of it got replaced with the Apex parts and all was well, but none of mine feel the same. This last one also had a nasty catch at the start of the trigger update where it engaged the striker block. I had to reshape the trigger bar engagement with the striker block to make it go away. Apex said that S&W changed the design with of the trigger bar and it does not play nice with the FSS striker block any longer.
  4. I have the same issue with mine. It's hit and miss with the outside temp it seems. Here in the house it's fine and they drop free. I ground down one of my followers tonight to get 20 rounds reloadable. The slight reciprocating is tight with the 20th round pressed under the slide. I might just use it for the 1st up mag on a stage so I'm topped to 20 and roll with 19 after that. Seems like there should be something better. And maybe those stupid TF cuts in the bottom should not be there and then the inside of the extension could be cut deeper. By the way... Anyone have a link to where I can get the brass TF extensions? I wanted to pick up one or two to compare to the others in how it gun handled with the extra weight. Anyone have any input as to if they are worth the extra money?
  5. I dig the slide work. What did it set you back and how long did it take them? What the real life change in how it shoots and handles? How many rounds are you getting per mag and what mods did you make to get that to happen?
  6. Oh by the way... I hate you people too... And is the Tactical Sport like a stupid thick Glock grip or how would it compare to an M&P with the small backstrap?
  7. Okay someone was telling me about the "small frame" and I just couldn't compehend what the issue was if they were 140mm long mags. Now I see the light... Less stagger in the mag. My leaning curve is steep... Thanks. Okay so the Tactical Sport version then get you a full weight mag. I noticed that there was an extension for 20 round mags for the Tactical Sport but couldn't figure out what the deal was. So if you want to set up the Tactical Sport mags with these extensions, what base mag do you start with for your mags on that gun? http://czcustom.com/cztacticalsportextendedbasepadsilver.aspx I hear there is some concern for quality for the factory mags? Is there a beginners guide to figuring this stuff out so I don't get stuck on my learning curve?
  8. I'm an M&P guy and I want a CZ now. Didn't want on before but someone posted one for sale on for forum and it's just SO SEXY! So what's the deal with the .40 mag capacity? Why so low? Any way to get to 20 rounds?
  9. No way is it worth point shooting. Thats basically what a double tap is and it does not work past just a couple yards. I'm learning that you can go way slower and get better scores but blasting away as fast as you can is a hard issue to break. Controlled aimed shots are the only way to roll.
  10. I'd like to post a complaint about Sunday's match. Your presents threw off the curve, whereas I would have been in the 90% group of Limited shooters without you there, your presents bumped me to the 60% group. Sometimes I can do without a dose of reality... But I remind myself that one needs this constant reminder to continue to strive for improvement. Keep up the good shooting and keep inspiring the rest of us! Oh and post some photos of that M&P project. I've pushed in some tight sights on the M&Ps, hopefully I've never cracked any. The rear sights on the new production slides seems to be looser than before, or the sight manufactures got wise to the issue and made the sights smaller. Either way, they the rear sights seem to be easier now than than they were a few years ago. The front sights are still a total bitch and I want a sight tool for the 5" guns. Can't someone please make one!?
  11. Oh damn! I snorted reading this one!
  12. Honeybooboo, The following is a post that I made on my blog. It was written for students of my CCW classes trying to get them engaged in competition. I've found that it's very hard to get the average gun owner interested in competition and even some serious gun owners won't do it because it's too painful on their ego to get whooped every weekend until they get the hang of things and pick up their speed while retaining the accuracy they thought that had. Being that you're here on BE Forums, you're already educated more than most and my information may be "below" you, but I'll provide it anyways. There may also be other posts on the blog you would find educational. https://weaponkingpi...he-competition/
  13. I'm no shotgun expert, but I've got an FN SLP Mk1 that I've been totally happy with. It's got a few thousand rounds through it. Had a few failures to feed in the first 500 rounds than pretty much no issues. I've modified it some and have documented those changes here as well as on my blog. I've also got a buddy that has a 930 JM that has been totally reliable, but he says that mine recoils "way" less. I have not shot them side by side to confirm this, but he wants to sell his 930 JM and get the FN to replace it. I can hook you up with him if you're interested in check on the chance of him selling it. Here's the links to the shotgun mod write ups... https://weaponkingpin.wordpress.com/2012/09/02/one-way-to-shorten-an-fnh-slp-mk1-stock/ http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=148752&hl=
  14. I've had an issue with getting psyched out if I know the guy I'm watching is right on par with my skill level. This is more IDPA related as I would normally be shooting for one of the top couple spots. Now in USPSA I'm lucky to be in the top 10 in Limited so it's not so much an issue. Also it seems to be improving some with my increase in experience. I can come up with my own plan and not be thrown off by others so much.
  15. Let us know if you find it. Should be interesting, as it looks like it would accept a factory base plate. I've got 2 M&P9 pistols with the SSS ESP Magwell on them. They are good for size without getting out of control and are IDPA legal since they fit in the box. I went with that on my 3-Gun "Limited" build on the M&P9L so I could also shoot it in IDPA. But on my USPSA Limited build of an M&P40Pro, I did the full SSS Limited Magwell as that gun will never be shot without anything but the full length extended mags. The downside of the ESP magwell is that your standard baseplates will NOT work. You have to switch over to the SSS base plates which are NOT CHEAP. After I realized that, I went ahead and switched all of my base plates over, even the home defense loaded mags just incase I grabbed the "wrong" gun. I didn't want any issues trying to shove square peg into a round hold.
  16. That was interesting, I was standing right behind you as you drilled one of the targets 3 times with good hits on the classifier stage. That stage was a little slow to fall even for my 180gr .40 Major load. The best reaction I saw from those targets was from a shooter that shot all of them at the very top edge of the target. My hits will all in the center of the circle but the delay in them falling was not enough to make me doubt the hits. I think the distance could have been a factor. According to the stage layout it was 57 feet to the back targets. http://www.uspsa.org/classifiers/99-57.pdf
  17. Yep, action competition only or maybe Multi-Gun specific? I've really fallen out of love with "tactical" based forums and have been looking at options to amuse me in my spare time while I'm waiting for my bullet order to arrive.
  18. Initially I had doubted there were... But then I found Boomer, so I assume there are others that I'm just not aware of.
  19. It's my opinion that the BE Forums are pretty much the end-all-be-all of practical competitive shooting forums. But what are the other great ones you guys know of? I'm not talking about the "tactical" bases forums that happen to have a few competition based sub-fourms... I'm just referring to those that are dedicated solely to competition. The only other one that I'm a member of, which is also a great forum is BoomerShooter.com Who's got more links?? Post'em up!
  20. Look out... Chris Costa is exploding into the single stack market as well!!! http://www.handgunsmag.com/2012/11/16/costa-quality-nighthawk-custom-costa-recon-review/
  21. I believe mine are from the first production batch. If not, they are for sure from the second. I specifically asked if there had been a design change that I would be receiving in the replacement mag catch and that question was not addressed on the return email.
  22. No joke... I'm continually amazed at the quality of photos and video taken with my iPhone 4S. It's just crazy stupid how far electronic have come. The only downfall to the iPhone photos and video is the lighting. I took those indoors in direct light from a window. I've learned how to work around that lighting shortcoming so pretty much all the photo come out good.
  23. I just wanted to let everyone know that I heard back from Kirsten Costa today about the mag release. She will be providing a replacement mag catch at no cost AND refunding the money on my initial one.
  24. Now that I've blown up the photos, it almost looks like the tab was ready to shear. Didn't notice that was the naked eye...
