  1. Over the last week I got to shoot and then had the pleasure of working the Noveske Area 2 Multi-Gun Championships in Byers, Colorado. The match was amazing and all the great shooters were amazing to watch and learn from. This was a "lost brass" match so we as the RO's, got to keep the brass shot on our stages. As a result we got some good chuckles out of what we found related to reloading. I think the most striking and worrisome is there was one shooter who appears to have been reloading Blazer Aluminum 9mm cases. Not sure why this was done. Maybe a complete lack of knowledge or maybe on purpose in an effort to not "waste" brass at a match where you were not allowed to retrieve it. Besides the damage to the cases as an indication of reloading, in person there's a definite look to the case that it's been through a sizing die. We were not able to ID who the shooter was or even what squad they came from. But I figured I'd get to word out and maybe they would notice the post. If this is a common and safe practice please let me know. Maybe I'm just missing some new high speed ninja reloading trick. But from my knowledge this is not an acceptable or safe practice. Please post up your opinions and experience with this subject. The photos below are just a sampling of what was found. We didn't find a single one that was not cracked. 2. The sponsor emails are up on the website now! Jerry got them to me last night.
  3. Okay, I really laughed out loud at that one. That would be my response.
  4. Wow, got home today to find you laying on my kitchen counter. The cover model for Front Sight. Well.. You were running the timer for the cover model, but you made the cover none-the-less...
  5. NIce work! I assume you shot the TF and not the M&P?
  6. Sold pending tissue match... I'm (O Neg), should be good.
  7. Okay I'll be the freak here. I shoot more long range carbine (700 yard max, typical out to 550 yards) than I do 3-Gun. But I have both carbines setup the same basically. My long range carbine that I use in team matches with a rifle partner is a 16" mid length HBAR profile with an adjust gas block and a direct attach suppressor with a 3.5-21 Bushnell HDMR. This guns shoots Berger 80.5gr bullets on LC brass. My 3-Gun carbine has the same barrel with a non-adjustable gas block with just an AAC brake (Mini-4 Suppressor used if the match allows in Tactical) and I run a mix 55gr FMJ or 69gr Nosler depending on the stage with a 1-4x optic. I think the typical shooter would be hard pressed to be able to justify one barrel length over another for a local level 3-Gun match. Getting that picky really means you're training a lot, loading very specifically to reduce recoil without giving up too much in way of FPS buy using a longer barrel and you're really running at the top of your division. Otherwise it really is not going to matter. For long range, a shorter stiffer barrel will get you better accuracy than a longer one of the same or less weight. That being said I'm kicking around getting a 20" for my long range carbine because we ran into 50 MPH cross winds at a match in Wyoming last year and the extra 100 FPS might have helped. Other than the wind issue, I don't think the average shooter would have any issue with a shorter barrel. And in 3-Gun the long range targets are much larger than we're shooting in the long range matches so wind is even less of an issue. But both guns shoot great for me as I'm not running at the top of my division at any 3-Gun matches and starting to mess the barrel length would not change anything in the way of my results. Most of the best 3-Gun shooters will have a preference in length based on how the gun feels under recoil, moves during a transition and stays on target during splits and its not really based on ballistic performance. I would get what you can find now and learn to shoot it. If you want to mess with how it recoils, you can always swap brakes or install an adjustable gas block.
  8. I can't use those... That's for CLIP storage and I don't have any guns that take clips...
  9. Yep, that's the deal. Thanks! I'll also give the hardware stores a try like Mark said and see what they have.
  10. I've gotten into protecting my pistol mags with the CED 6-Pack mag storage sleeves. Mostly this helps me keep track of them and not forget any mags at the range and pack correctly when I got to the match. But now that my PMAGs are made of gold, I'd like to do the same thing with them. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a similar items for the rifle mags. Brownell's as something close but it's still a little more bulky and made to attach to molle type attachments. I just looking for the same $10 type velcro flap closure pouches as CED makes for pistols. Anyone have some ideas on where I can get that? Thanks!
  11. None as far as I've seen. I adjusted it at 69* and have shot it as cold at 14* without any issues.
  12. Correct about that recoil. Mine had much more than a standard gas gun, and seemed to be slow to cycle to boot.
  13. Okay! We're gonna needs some photos NOW!
  14. He is standing on his stump a little... BUT, being in business is not getting any easier these days... And the voters just keep making it worse for everyone. If he needs to trim the fat somewhere to keep making a profit and not lay people off, then that's a good place to start. Doesn't mean he still can't help a soldier out here and there... Just means there's not going to be a blanket discount. I'd rather seem him do some donations or sponsorship here and there with the extra money anyways. Pick some good purpose to throw money at for some Vets and do that instead.
  15. You can also look at running light bullets and then loading something as hot as you can get it to run and which should help it run flatter when going long range. You'll just need a drop compensated scope like Burris MTAC and see where those drop marks hit at different ranges. What I found was they really plummet after 100 yards and my reliability sucked compared to a gas gun. But for the ease of reloading it's nice. Just don't mix up your ammo if you come up with anything really hot and don't mix the brass in with your pistol brass. Not sure how long the 9mm brass would last if you were really pushing them hard.
  16. I have a Syrac on my AR15 that I built for long range field based team matches. It works great and adjusts easy enough. I've got it bottomed all the way out to as little gas as it will let though. Runs solid with the suppressor attached. Take the suppressor off and it's a single shot gun. The only reason I would have to adjust it is if I had some issue with the suppressor and had to remove it. But I don't see that happened and I take a backup upper with me to these matches so I would just swap uppers. Sorry about the double post.
  17. What kind of accuracy are you getting from each and what's your load? I've always been courious what you can get out of a JP and how it compares to the rifles I build.
  18. Same thing here and not a single issue. I G-RX all my .40 brass every time so I don't have any issue. Might be overkill but I have so much .40 brass I only have to sit down and do it once a year over a few days of watching TV and pulling the handle on the single stage press I have screwed to a 2x4 that I clamp to the coffee table.
  19. So based on my buddy's suggestion the Precision Bullets load at the bottom is my "summer" load. We have huge swings in temps here in Colorado. In January I may shoot a match in 10* weather and in August it will be 100*... I've seen some pretty big swings in WST just in the little bit I've been testing it.
  20. Here's my WST info from my last test loads. All were shot from an M&P40Pro 5" gun. All rounds loaded to 1.140 and all using WST without any pressure issue. Fire at 40 degrees. The bottom two are my preexisting loads and the Rainier is what I was testing that day. Sorry, it looked like it was gonna take the formatting from my spreadsheet but it didn't so I had to clean things up. Rainier Ballistics 180gr 40S&W 5.0gr WST = 958 FPS Average = 172PF 5.2gr WST = 975.4 FPS Average = 175 PF 5.4gr WST = 1005 FPS Average = 180 PF Precision Delta 180gr 40S&W 5.2gr WST = 955 FPS Average = 176 PF Precision Bullets 185gr 40S&W 4.7gr WST = 970 FPS Average = 179 PF
  21. RCBS Lock-Out Die. No question, never load pistol round without one. The only squib I've had in 120k rounds of loading is one from a .380 case that got through.
  22. I never de-prime before cleaning... Further more my brass looks dirty when I'm done loading because I use Hornady One-Shot when I run it into the press for loading because I'm using a Lee U Die and this helps ease the force I have to use on the handle. Once the loaded rounds are complete, I hand inspect them all with a case gage and store them in ammo cans without doing anything else. 120k rounds later and not a single issue from a dirty primer pocket.
  23. If there is none available on the forum for sale, I know a guy on M4Carbine.net selling 800 of the Precision Delta 180gr FMJ. He goes by "bootcamp" on the board if you're a member. If not and you're interested I can PM him for you. Just PM me here and we'll go from there. It'll be a big PM party...
  24. Hitting the No Shoot does not count as hitting the target though...
