  1. This is why it behooves you to know the rules,,,, if an SO gives you a PE, they should be able to articulate the rule and find it in the rulebook.
  2. The tumbling issue is no doubt your ammo.. Lack of velocity and poor crimp can be the cause. But since they are not your reloads, dont shoot them out of that gun. If the ammo is tumbling, they are not going to group well, its more like a knuckle ball.
  3. The SO, and ASO's working the stage and MD should be the only ones making a call. You can have a squad full of trained SO's, that doesnt mean they should be making calls the SO missed. I say MD because they either designed the stage or know how it is to be shot. If they see a PE, I feel it would be ok to adv the SO, but let tjhe SO make the final call.
  4. Even though the gun is shooting left for you, how are the shots grouping? This is the key! A barrel crown and ammo issues will cause erratic groupings. . I recently switched to a Gen 3, Glock 34 also, after competing with a 1911 for 10+ years. I am a MA class shooter and considered very accurate. I am lefty and at 25 yards my shots are 2-3 inches right. I contribute this to the Glock trigger and the fact that I am still getting used to it. I know its me becasue I can call my shot when I fire a shot that hits the dot I am aiming at at 25 yards. I recently bought a second G34, this one a Gen 4. Took it out to test fire and from a rest at 25 yards I got the same results. The first gun has a KKM barrel, the second is stock. If you refuse to think its you, your going to spend a lot of time searching for a band-aid. Do some research on Glock trigger press and at least start there.
  5. At last years CA state match, we had 6 guns (4 Glocks, a Springfield 1911 and a S&W SSR revolver) and a Dillon 650 as raffle prizes. This is not a geography issue in the sense of East coast clubs are better then West or vice versa.. Its more of how far are people willing to travel to shoot.... The big name shootes are not going to an IDPA match becasue of the door prizes or raffle prizes, Its conveience, timing and committments. Most will shoot the big 3.
  6. The 2014 CA State IDPA Championship will be held the fist Sat in Oct. The match will be hosted again by the Sacramento Defensive Pistol Shooters (SDPS), and will be held at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center. This is one of the best ranges on the west coast. Last year's match was a huge success with 170 shooters. Looks for sign-ups in a few months. More information can be found on the club and range website. http://www.sdps-idpa.org/ http://www.sacvalley.org/
  7. In Defense of IDPA... I got Joyce's email and thought it was honest. I do not see people leaving in droves as some seem to think. At my home range we have two seperate USPSA clubs, and combined their attendance does not top our IDPA matches. We average 120 shooters each match! If you look at the big 3 IDPA matches, all the big names are there. Every sanctioned match I shot last year was full before sign ups were even over. In Fact, our state match was to be capped at 150 shooters, we eneded up with 170 due to demand. Why is everyone complaining about flat footed relaods so much, for crying out loud we can now round dump and go to slide lock and reload while moving to cover.. this is huge...
  8. It is also important to remember that just becasue steel is calibrated at the beginning of the match, doesn't mean it will not change at some point during the match. All it takes is for the angle to change slightly due to the base being pulled up, or the nut working itself in.
  9. No offense taken Bob.. I get what your saying, and I agree somewhat. It just has NOT been my experience that west coast matches lack good stages, Im not just saying that because I live here, Stage design is definately a game changer and sets the good matches apart from others. I like your marketing approach as well.. Make sure you sign up this year..
  10. Since this is under IDPA I will agree with everything you said Bob, except this I dont see that having anything to do with geography. I have shot IDPA matches all over this country and I couldn't say it made a difference. The most elaborate stages I have see were in San Luis Obispo.
  11. Also the NRB now says you cannot use full length guides in SSP,, has to be captured.
  12. IDPA.. Captured Zev or Jager stainless steel rod, ISMI flat wire 13 lb recoil spring.
  13. My understanding of the no camera, video thing was it was a range rule. They had issues with people in USPSA/IDPA arguing calls and trying to use the video to support their stance. Instead of just saying no they made it a range rule. I too skipped the match last year, but the year before they had squads reserved for those who wanted to video or take photos. If your were not in one of these squads you could not use video, etc.. Seemed silly.
  14. Safariland... 5197 model holster and their 332 Belt.. a great combo... Comfort, you can use it for CCW, its competitive, and its priced right.. www.holsters.com
  15. I agree Scott,, Also, for the price you pay to shoot WA, you get very little in return.
  16. Build it and they will come... Like mentioned above,, I think if the west coast matches really gained in popularity the bigger names will shoot. Also, I think most of the real big names shoot matches close to home, except the big 3 matches. Taran Butler shot Nev IDPA Championship in Vegas a few years ago, but hes from CA. Curt NIchols and a couple of guys traveled from AR and shot the CA state 2 years ago, hes a DM. Some talk about the gun laws in CA being a factor but they arent as restrictive as MA, and this doesnt seem to affect the Indoor Natls in MA. At last years Indoor Natl's a few of us talked to Joyce Wilson about hosting the Natl's in CA. We have the ranges and the weather. She talked about the gun laws, but said its not out of the realm of possibility. Last year at the CA state match we had 170 shooters. We had a lot of good Master shooters. This year we want to attract more out of state shootes.
  17. If you grip the gun with a firm grip and roll your forearms inward you will feel what Mike is talking about.. Its the same thing Vogel does.
  18. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with experimenting with different grip sizes. Revolver shooters do it with different size grips, 1911 shooters do it with arched and flat mainspring housings. Find the grip size that works for you, then practice with it. Good Luck.
  19. When I started shooting Glocks, my shots were always 2-3 inches right (Im lefty). I knew it was me. I played with the trigger finger postion, tip versus the pad etc.. More finger on the trigger helped a bit. The real breakthrough was when I taught myself to press straight to the rear without slowing down or staging the trigger. I think I got into the habit of being too deliberate with my trigger pull, thinking smoother would mean more accurate. With a 1911, you can be as deliberate as you want since the trigger is in a track and is not really affected by how fast the trigger goes back, but how smoothly. Now, I press the trigger straight back in one continious motion. Dont slow down or try to stage the trigger. Prep and press in one continious motion. You may surprise yourself that you can pull the trigger pretty fast and more accurate.
  20. Personally, this L draw doesnt work for me, nor do I like it. If this works for some, grea! My intent of the post was to see who has heard of this, as I had not.
  21. So no one gets confused...most draws incorporate the "press out". The draw I have talked about has the gun being rasied up to eye level, then being pressed out from there. Seems like the initial post drits off..
  22. The other option which is more popular is switch your mag release and use the index or middle finger of your strong hand. This is what most lefties do, myself included.
