  1. I am going to my first USPSA match in Miamisburg this weekend... and I am thinking of going to MRPC next weekend. So don't worry the humiliation will be spread around.
  2. Those days SUCK... I keep the tracking up most of the day... my FFL does not even call me anymore. Well one time he did cause I did not have time that day to run out to his place. He thought I forgot I had one coming. It is worth it though, better than Christmas when you get to play with the new toy!
  3. Sounds like you got a great complete setup. I would think that would all be more than adequate! Make sure you update how you like it and how it runs.
  4. That is more or less how you have to do it.. if you think about it you will miss your shot. As others have said you will want to keep some springs on hand to keep it going. You also need to accept right now... that it may have some small issues till you get it all dialed in. Hope for the best prepare for the worst. The only other thing is mags.. do not skimp on mags. This all pretty much what got me on my first 2011 that I jumped into. I had some other thing going on and when I had some issues out of the gate I got frustrated and it was sold. I still regret selling it but I will get another one before too long.. especially if I keep hanging out here.
  5. or Now I just need to find some local people I know to go as well... and some IDPA legal mag pouches that are not horrible.
  6. I still need some better grips and want to get a CR Speed belt, but this is how I will run it for awhile till I can get some more funds.
  7. Can you just heat up a knife blade and smooth the stippling out under the guard? You should be able to get pretty close to original. Actually already smoothed it a bit as it was kind of uncomfortable as it was. I would say it is no more than original but it looks a little different so letter of the law and all. I am going to my first USPSA match this upcoming weekend, and would rather avoid just running afoul of anyone while figuring it all out. If I really want to end up going production I can always just pick up a Pro and keep this one to tinker on as a carry/home gun.
  8. All I can say is that I think I have either had or seen a bad gun from every manufacture I can think of, and the more they make the more I have seen. Also the idea that these are made for Duty etc.. or any gun making the claim.. if you choose to take it as fact and not test it that is a very very bad idea. And HK is far from perfect I had a USP 9 that was fine, yet my friend had a USP 45 Compact that would not run a single mag.. and talk about bad CS.. it was a nightmare. I do hear it is getting better these days. I would think anyone who is not happy with there gun, or the company should sell it and move on to what makes them happy. Life is too short to not be happy with what you have.
  9. I like the M&P 9mm with Thumb Safety as a good 1911 like gun. I picked up mine for a production option, then remembered the stippling bit under the trigger guard shoots that... brain fart. (Previous owner did the work, he did it just to match the stock lines.) Going to use it in a few defensive classes.. will make a good ESP gun. Maybe try Limited Minor just to see if I like Limited. My STI Trojan came back all fixed up in plenty of time so it all worked out. The wife's XDm feels 1911 angled as well, but with a higher bore. A few other hammer fired options as well come to mind, I like the HK USP as you can do cocked and locked, just not in production.
  10. This was about a year ago I think... hard to remember. Mine would feed okay at times, then hang up and not go into battery. A smack on the back would get it going. Now mine had two barrels as it was the kit, and the issue was only with one so that helped track it down. You could actually feel it catching in the lug area as you worked the slide if you did it slow. Not saying it is your issue though, I sent it into smith and the replaced the barrel that was at issue. Also got a free mag out of it. I did sell the gun after making sure it worked though, no real reason just found something else shiny while it was away.
  11. Call Smith and Wesson. I had a .45 with a threaded barrel that had some issues as well, sent it in came back working like a top. The issue was actually in the barrel lug area messing with the timing.
  12. Would an extended mag release help at all? My .45 has one and I can hit it with standards no problem even sans thumb notch. I may take it out and put it in my Trojan to try, while I decided if I want to setup for only SS or ESP and SS.
  13. I am holding off on IDPA for a bit while they work on the rules etc that seems to be in process atm. I also can't seem to get anyone to go with me to the local match... A few things I would like to see though from a new guy just reading the book... A lot of things are down right confusing or not specific enough, most of this has been covered. Ditch Round Dumping rules and Mag Retention.. or at least tweak it. I like the idea of grouping all the Striker Fired guns, but then it seems like you would have more divisions to really be "fair" about it. Hammer Fired DA/SA, Stock Striker Fired, and Enhanced Service Pistol. As I do not see moving Joe with a stock Glock 17 into the same division as Bob who has a Glock 34 with some sub 1 lb super trigger and magwell as really all that great, not to mention Ricardo and his 2011 Eagle 9mm. Another thing I would love to see.... either in IDPA or USPSA... I think it would be rather fun to have a division were I can shoot my carry gun. The way I would actually carry it. I mean if we want to go with real life I have never only stuck 10 rounds in my 17 round mags. Now I see no practical way to pull this off given state limits etc.. but it would still be fun. I am actually thinking of shooting my M&P FS in USPSA Limited some just to try it. I am well aware I will not win.. but I will not anyway.
  14. I have been working on a sudo diet for awhile and I can not cut out the sugar I have to have something small or I get cranky. Only other suggestion I would offer is that if the co worker tries to hold out on you go dirty.
  15. Sorry to hear that, I did contact the vendor and they gave me a direct e-mail to use. They may have also contacted them, as I got crazy fast service. They also do seem to work best on the phone.
  16. So wow um STI has there stuff squared away I guess... I sent it out last week and it got to them on Monday 3/26. I came home to find a UPS notice on my door Friday 3/30, from STI... hmmmm interesting. So I call UPS and setup to go pick it up today 3/31. Well I am back from UPS and it seems that they got it all fixed up! They replaced and refit a new Slide Stop, and plunger assembly. They also fixed some disconector drag issues I was having, as well as running some rounds though it. So like I said WOW! That is the fastest service I have ever had. I setup this M&P, now I will not even need it for a match. It will still be setup for a backup option, and as more of a carry/class/HD gun.
  17. The ambi does make things easier when you are shooting with your offhand. I personally do not have one on any of my 1911 guns, I just do not like them. I flip it off before changing hands, it works for me. The link that holds both sides together is just a weak link in the setup. Do they always break? No. Do some? Yes. Can a non-ambi break? Yes. You will find the majority of people that run a 1911 in competition do run an ambi.
  18. If someone does not beat me I will post one of the feed ramp/barrel on my RRA 1911. I would not loose faith in 1911 gunsmiths... maybe the one you used though. I know of several good ones but most of the good ones take time and have a backlog of some sort. After all if they are good word gets around.
  19. It almost looks like the barrel could be over setting the frame ramp? Just a guess looking at it plus the nicks on the nose of the round.
  20. Yikes, I called them up on my Trojan and the guy seemed nice. At the time they were going to send out a part no questions asked. Had a few other issues so they ended up just sending a call tag, this was all via e-mail and they seemed nice enough. I would have preferred to not have issues.. but as long as they fix it I will be happy. Never really seen an Ambi I was super impressed with, I prefer not to have them on anything.
  21. Yeah adding those adds up quick. If I end up needing to buy new mags I may try that as well. I have to be careful with the add ons for a bit... after the M&P the wife gave me the look last night...
  22. Have a pic of the feed ramp? The end all be all suggestion is to make sure you try other mags as well.. I have had guns that work on check-mate and some that would not feed worth a darn with them same with other brands.
  23. You will get to work on your point shooting? I would think you should be okay, you can call STI and I am sure they will fix you up. I am not sure how much time you have though. If anything I bet the red loctite will make it quite a challenge to get off. If it is not a standard novak I am unsure then. It could be cut for a bo-mar, but again time issue plus expensive.
  24. On the magwell go with the ICE, I am going to switch my Trojan to one at some point as well. ( I will be going with a Gap, too cheap to buy special basepads.) The trigger is all personal preference I like the Harrison smooth models, but I am in no hurry to change my plastic one. I kind of want to get an SVI trigger just so I can try the inserts. Grip Tape.. seems like a plan! Grips.. I would shoot Larry Davidson an E-mail. I prefer his work over VZ just as his stuff seems to fit the wider frames a little better. (Baer and STI both seem to use wider than normal frames front to back.) Mags.. still working on this as you know, but if it helps you can borrow my two ETMs that are open till I get my gun back. I am keeping the others in the bags till then, just to keep the resale if I need to switch. Should be quite an upgrade over the EMP for sport, looking forward to meeting up at the matches!
  25. Did they move with the set screw in? I am pretty sure Dawson makes an adjustable as does Novak that should fit. Getting a Bo-mar cut would be kind of spendy but those others should work just as well.
